Three New Cards Revealed and launch date set

It’s now official that Blackrock Mountain is going live on April 2nd/April 3rd.

Three new cards were revealed this week.

[Volcanic Drake] – 6 mana Dragon, 6/4 common, Costs (1) less for each minion that died this turn.

[Drakonid Crusher] – 6 mana Dragon, 6/6 common, Battlecry – If your opponent has 15 or less health, gain +3/+3.

[Nefarian] – 9 mana Dragon, 8/8 Legendary, Battlecry: Add 2 random spells to your hand (from your opponent’s class).

Getting Better

Warlock!

The Warlock was the 3rd hero I unlocked and went straight to level 10 with.  I always played a ‘Lock for fun in WoW, so I wanted to see if I could have just as much fun in Hearthstone.

We will take the starter basic deck and substitute in what our Patrons pointed out as being much needed for your first Warlock deck.

The Mulligan

When going first you want to try to have [Mortal Coil], and/or [Dark Bomb] for removal and a [Flame Imp] or other 2 mana minion to play.

When going 2nd with the [Coin] you can keep anything you did for going first, except you can allow for a 3 mana minion as the coin will allow you to play that on your 2nd turn.

Play this deck fast!

The Warlock’s hero power allows you to play all of your minions without fear of having no cards to play on your next turn. So play those minions and use them to trade until you can do damage to face. Unlike the face hunter, you will trade often with this deck until you can get the bigger minions on your side and use [Power Overwhelming] to finish off your opponent.

The key cards in this deck are [Power Overwhelming] and [DoomGuard]. The idea is to get the opposing hero to 10 health and clear their taunts/secrets. Then if you have a minion on your side that is ready to attack, use [Power Overwhelming] to give it +4/+4 and play [Doomguard]. Always play other cards before [Doomguard], as his battlecry can discard what you planned to play that turn. =(

Other key cards/combos are [Imp-losion] and [Frostwolf Warlord] or [Stormwind Champion]. I often play [Imp-losion] on turn 4 and the [Frostwolf Warlord] on turn 5 for a nice big dude that will usually stick around.

You’ve unlocked the Priest hero and have gained all the basic class cards through leveling up to 10. Now you’re ready to take on those Priest quests that have been building up.

Priest has some very useful basic cards, we suggest that you take the basic deck that the game gives you and and make a few substitutions with the cards gained from leveling and a few created with dust.

The Mulligan

If you are going first I would try to hold onto any 2 mana minion, [Power Word: Shield] and [Holy Smite]. These cards will allow you to clear their 1 drop and allow you a minion on turn 2.

If you are going 2nd I would keep all of the above, but also keep [Thoughtsteal]. This card can be played on turn 2 with the The Coin.

Playing this deck

You are probably thinking, “Why not play [Northshire Cleric] on turn 1?” With this card, I find that if I do not use it to get a card on the turn I play it, it just acts as a target for a low cost removal spell or is just killed off by a minion that will stay alive after killing it. So I usually play it when I know I can get the most from it. Unless… I can play it and [Power Word: Shield] on it. Then I am fine with not healing to gain the card.

I always tried to keep my opponents board clear of minions and used my hero power to keep my minions alive. I rarely healed myself and use my hero power to keep my minions alive to help clear the opponents board.

Be careful when healing your [Gurubashi Berserker]. If you heal him back to full, he will lose his bonuses for being enraged.

And keep in mind that trying to heal a minion or yourself while [Auchenai Soulpriest] is in play will “Deal” 2 damage, not heal it. I’ve fell victim to this trick one too many times. Pay attention. But, with the case of the [Gurubashi Berserker], dealing damage to it to enrage is not a bad idea at all.

1. Blizzard announces a new adventure, Blackrock Mountain at PaxEast 2015

* New Adventure Pack – Blackrock Mountain

* Phone version had some issues to overcome but it’s in Alpha state now. Will be coming “very, very soon”.

Important Points:

* Available in April 2015, with pre-orders starting on March 19th or 20th

* It’s slightly different than Naxxramas because of the story. You get thrown into the middle of one of Azeroth’s most heated conflicts. A feud between Ragnaros and the black dragon Nefarian. Nefarian apparently sends you to deal with Ragnaros.

* There are 5 wings just like there were in Naxxramas, 17 bosses.

* Each boss has their own hero power

* Each boss drops two copies of a new card. 31 new cards come in this Adventure, which are rewarded by defeating each boss and each challenge.

* When you defeat a wing, you get that wing’s Legendary card (example – Rend Blackhand)

* 9 class challenges – succeed and you get 2 copies of a new class card.

trying to create a decent and fun deck using the basic deck with a few tweaks. Our listeners have suggested that I use [Druid of the Claw] [Keeper of the Grove] and [Ancient of Lore] to help boost my deck. Just looking at the basic deck, we can see that it has some synergy with [Innervate] and [Wild Growth] allowing us to put some big bodied minions out early. We can use this knowledge to help us with subtracting and adding cards, as I’ll show here…

If you’re going first, you want to try to have an [Intervate] or [Wild Growth] and a [Claw] or and of your 2 mana cost Minions. Also keep in mind that the Druid’s Hero power is a 2 mana cost ability that gives you 1 armor and 1 attack. The shield stays on your hero until it absorbs enough damage to destroy it, but the attack goes away at the end of your turn. Constructing your first Rogue Deck

To unlock the Rogue, known as “Valeera Sanguinar,” you must first defeat the Innkeeper’s Rogue deck in practice mode. To do this you much go into Solo Adventures from the main menu, click on Practice, choose Normal or Expert, pick the deck you’ll be playing and then challenge the Innkeeper with his Rogue deck.

Once leveled up to 10 you will unlock all of the basic Rogue class cards. Now you’re ready to construct your first Rogue deck for fun and maybe profit. (Fun is guaranteed, profit on the other hand is not guaranteed.

I’m going to go with our listeners and suggest that you create some [Eviscerate]s, [SI:7 Agent]’s, and a [Preparation] or two. You also want to make a few changes from the original deck that the game starts you out with. I’ll list the changes here…

Here are some tips for playing this deck:

Mulligan (what cards do I keep if I go first/second w-the coin)

If you are going first try to get a [Deadly Poison] or [Backstab] and a [Bloodfen Raptor] or [Acidic Swamp Ooze]. You’ll want to begin aggressively. Why not [Kobold Geomancer], he’s a 2-drop? The [Kobold Geomancer] is in this deck to boost your spell power and should be played in the same turn as the spell.

If you are going second (with the coin) try for everything mentioned above, but remember that [SI:7 Agent]s are extremely powerful early game removal when combo’d with the coin.

Of course, you also need to keep in mind the class you’re going against. Example; Right now the Paladin spell [Muster for Battle] is very powerful, but with a simple [Fan of Knives] you can easily remove those 1,1 recruits. With this knowledge of the class you’re playing against, you can keep cards the you know will counter their powerful cards.

Playing this deck

Keeping the [Backstab] and the [Deadly Poison] early will allow you to remove your opponents minions while playing your own 2 and 3 cost minions. This will gain you board presence and hopefully keep the board clear for when you play the 4 cost minions and begin your onslaught.

In the mid and late game you’ll draw into the [Eviscerate], [Assassin’s Blade] and [Assassinate] for removal. This will give you room to go to face (attack the opposing hero) or trade correctly with your [Boulderfist Ogre] and [Stormwind Champion].

There is no “finishing combo” with this deck. Just keeping pressure on the opposing hero and attacking with your lar...

“Well, it has a variety of viable decks and many fun playstyles available to it, in contrast to classes like Warrior, thanks to its base of good removal spells, excellent burst and fun combo cards. ”

“That’s great, but what about card draw?”

“Card draw can be a problem, however this can be combated by [Mana Tide Totem] or even by new cards such as [Gazlowe] and [Neptulon] which allow you to refill your hand with minions. Besides, our efficient removal helps us to trade 1 for 1 at least against most minions, preventing us from falling too far behind on the board”

“What about the RNG?”

“The RNG aspect of Shaman play makes it more difficult, requiring a higher skill level to play successfully over a long number of games but still allowing less discerning players to get results at times. It’s much more interesting when you have to weigh up your chances of getting a spellpower totem with your other use of the 2 mana and the reward you gain from getting it. Much of the bad RNG can be countered by solid and consistent play which minimizes the risks taken.”

“Doesn’t overload hurt Shaman’s tempo potential?”

“Only when it’s not managed properly. Overload spells can allow you to wipe the board in one turn and play a minion where you might not have been able to, allowing you to gain tempo on one turn for the cost of tempo in the next turn. However, this should balance out if you use it correctly, much like rubato in music.

Where overload can hurt you is when you don’t look at your hand to see what you want to play next turn. [Feral Spirit] can seem good on turn 5 but it prevents that [Fire Elemental] from coming down next turn.”

I’m a new listener and I love the podcast! Thank you!

For the first time I have stacked 1600 dust and need a legendary. I know [Ragnaros the Firelord] and [Dr. Boom] are the obvious picks that will bring my rank up in any and all decks I play but I’m in love with a few other cards. I mainly play Rogue even tho it is weak without staple legendary cards, I like the mind boggling combos that can come from the class. So my other choices for “fun factor” over upping my rank is … [Trade Prince Gallywix]. I think its more important to steal spells and have fun than to drop [Dr. Boom]for a no brainer win till you get outclass by stacks of legendary cards… I would love to hear your guys thoughts about the potentially very fun “Trade Prince” vs pure power cards like Dr.Boom and Ragnaros.

Let Arrianwynn know I made my best run of five with the priest in arena The hero I almost never use. I am new to hearthstone I was wondering what card packs you get from the arena? 1. Big Changes Going On With LOTI

This week has seen some pretty big changes with our website. I moved over to a new design and started adding new content and features. “This isn’t my favorite podcast about Hearthstone BUT it is very enjoyable and the hosts are all very cool. Very down to earth and seem like regular people that could live down the street from me, very casual. Some HS podcasts, the hosts can be kinda snooty. Not these guys (and girl).
