  • Success Made to Last Legends celebrates the reunion of The Ladds, famous Dallas garage band born in 1967.
On February 9, 1964, four mop haired lads from Liverpool appeared on The Ed Sullivan Show. From that date through 1967, over 70,000 garage bands were formed. One of them was from Bryan Adams High School in Dallas, Texas. They were called The Ladds. Featuring Bob Phillips (lead vocals), Steve Piech (drums), Mike King (Bass Guitarist), Charles McCommas (Rhythm), and Dennis Duren (Lead guitar). Our special co-host for this show is Larry Telford, once a student at Collinsville, Texas High School who was forever changed (55 years ago) by The Ladds. Hear his story and enjoy the reunion conversation of these legendary youth that created a memorable sound and a lasting impression. And by the way, Bob Philipps turned out to be your Texas Country Reporter for the last 50 years. And Steve has had a remarkable career as a graphic designer with cover work published for Rolling Stone and Texas Monthly. And Mike has lived a good life, too. All were guided by the love of music and inspired in life by their days as The Ladds.

  • Success Made to Last Legends with Charles C.W. Cooke
Today’s guest , Charles C.W. Cooke, grew up in a small village just outside of Cambridge, UK, called Hemingford Abbots. He went to Oxford University, where he read Modern History and Politics, and immigrated to the US in 2011. He is the Editor of NationalReview.com and a writer for NR as well as a regular columnist for First Freedom, the magazine of the NRA. Charles has become –in my view—a first rate constitutional scholar, especially as it relates to the 2nd Amendment, and writes about some other passions with regularity, such as American and British history and intellectual history, free speech, American exceptionalism, amusement parks, and the joys of living in the 2nd greatest state in the Union, after TX, of course—Florida. He and his friend, Kevin D. Williamson, have a fabulous podcast called Mad Dogs and Englishmen and Charles is also a regular on NR’s The Editors. We love to read Charles not only because he is a fine writer but because of the careful precision of his thinking, which you will hear on his podcasts and here today. Enjoy this guy who is in love with America.
