The Academy has yet to officially announce the nominees for 2023's ceremony but the final list of contenders will be unveiled in the coming months.

Fans were especially shocked to see Thor: Love and Thunder on the site, which many believe to be a weaker MCU film and a significant step down from its predecessor, 2017's Thor: Ragnarok. Disney submitted Love and Thunder for several other major awards as well, including Best Director, Best Actor, Best Actress, Best Adapted Screenplay, and Best VFX.

Detail-oriented fans have pointed out that Thor had to have spent more than "a few weeks" as part of the Guardians of the Galaxy team, which he was seen joining at the end of Avengers: Endgame and leaving early in Love and Thunder. If Jane were "blipped" during Infinity War, this would mean that following her resurrection in Endgame, the Mighty Thor had time to be diagnosed with cancer and spent six months in treatment prior to the events of Love and Thunder. Many have suggested this would have to have occurred while Thor was with the Guardians, meaning his time with the team was much longer than a few weeks. Some enthusiasts stated that Love and Thunder appears to confirm the long-held fan belief that Jane was among those killed in the Snap by having Thor and Jane disagree about how long it had been since they last saw each other. Thor thinks it's about five years more than she does. However, others reject that as confirmation, instead seeing it as a joke about the pair's different attitudes towards their break up. Whether Jane was snapped is still hotly debated by fans, as there has been evidence on both sides. A tie-in novel for Avengers: Infinity War confirmed Jane and her friends Darcy and Dr. Selvig to all be among the survivors, while Endgame's script revealed Thor's beloved to be among the dead, alongside other characters whose confirmations never made it into the movie. Andrew Guest, who joined the upcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe show as its head writer, listed on his Writer's Guild of America page that Wonder Man is scheduled to come out during the 2023-2024 season. Guest is an MCU veteran who's previously worked as a writer on Marvel's Hawkeye series, and he's also written for sitcoms like Brooklyn Nine-Nine and Community. There is currently no official announcement from Marvel regarding the show's release date.

The issues addressed behind the scenes allegedly include creative difficulties with scripts, post-production problems and lackluster visual effects. To prevent Phases 5 and 6 from continuing down a similar path, the report claims Disney could ensure a creative oversight on MCU projects still in the pre-production stage, which in effect could see future projects delayed or outright canceled. Of course, it's worth noting this report has yet to be confirmed through any official Disney or Marvel channels at the time of this writing.

This special look at the size-shifting superhero premiered during CCXP and shrinks all of Ant-Man's adventures and misadventures into a two-minute retrospective. It includes some of Paul Rudd's most memorable scenes from Ant-Man, Captain America: Civil War, Ant-Man and The Wasp and Avengers: Endgame, with a brief look at Quantumania. While the Quantumania teaser trailer had already covered most new reveals from the movie, "The Legacy of Ant-Man" does include an ominous new line from the film's villain, Jonathan Majors' Kang the Conquerer. At the very end of the featurette, Kang can be heard saying, "Your reality, everything you're holding onto -- I know how it ends. You're out of your league, Ant-Man." This dialogue did not appear in the recent trailer, which instead had Kang say, "I can get you home, and give you more time, if you help me. So what's it gonna be, Ant-Man?" This featurette's version is decidedly more threatening than in the teaser trailer, hinting at Kang's status as a time-traveler from the future, which was first alluded to in Season 1 of Loki.

On Twitter, well-known cartoonist Scott Kurtz asked Gunn if Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3's colorful space suits were a nod to Among Us. Gunn simply replied, "No," sharing a photo of the red, yellow and blue space suits from 2001: A Space Odyssey. Kurtz was a good sport about the whole thing, however, tweeting, "I just got schooled by James Gunn. And I love it." And to be fair, judging by other posts on Twitter, Kurtz was far from the only one to think of Among Us when the Guardians donned their colorful gear.

James Gunn Confirms How Long Thor Spent With the Guardians of the Galaxy https://www.cbr.com/james-gunn-guardians-of-the-galaxy-thor-time/ Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn confirmed how long Thor was with the Guardians after the events of Avengers: Endgame. A fan tweeted at Gunn, asking what happened to the Guardians' old ship, the Benatar, and sought clarification on how much time has passed between when we saw the team in Thor: Love and Thunder and the events of the upcoming Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. The director claimed that the Benatar is in the garage, and revealed that their new ship, the Bowie, is much larger. He added that the Guardians were only with Thor for a few weeks before embarking on a separate adventure, and claimed a long time has passed since then.

In addition to Cox and D’Onofrio, Levieva and Holt join previously cast Michael Gandolfini. The 18-episode season of Daredevil: Born Again is slated to premiere in 2024, four years after the original Daredevil series ended its run on Netflix after three seasons.

REPORT: Michael Gandolfini Signs on for Multiple MCU Projects https://www.cbr.com/michael-gandolfini-marvel-cinematic-universe-contract/ Actor Michael Gandolfini, known for the Sopranos prequel film The Many Saints of Newark, has reportedly signed a multi-project deal with Marvel that will begin with Daredevil: Born Again. News that Gandolfini is joining the upcoming Daredevil show on Disney+ came out earlier this week, but according to Murphy's Multiverse, the actor is closing a deal to appear in multiple Marvel Cinematic Universe projects. Gandolfini's role in Daredevil: Born Again has not been revealed, but this contract suggests that his character will reappear in future MCU shows or movies later down the line. For his first Marvel role, he's working alongside Charlie Cox as Matt Murdock and Vincent D'Onofrio as Wilson Fisk, both of whom are reprising their roles from Netflix's hit Daredevil TV show.

The video features the alt-country band Old 97's as a group of alien musicians who attempt to make sense of Peter Quill's confusing Yuletide lore. Writer/director James Gunn discussed writing the song with frontman Rhett Miller, saying, "I had all these lyrics for it, and it kept changing. I walked around my house, singing into my iPhone and trying to figure out how the song was going to work. And finally, I approached Rhett and asked, 'Will you help me write this song? Because I can't do it by myself.' And he said, 'Absolutely.' And so we started sending tons of recordings and lyrics back and forth, and we wrote that song together."

Why ‘Wakanda Forever’ Villain Namor Won’t Get His Own Standalone Marvel Movie https://www.thewrap.com/wakanda-forever-namor-spinoff-movie-marvel-rights/ While Black Panther: Wakanda Forever's Namor is free to return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, a solo film starring the ruler of Talokan appears to be off the table. During an interview with TheWrap, Wakanda Forever producer Nate Moore discussed the legal issues standing in the way of Disney and Marvel Studios producing a Namor solo film. Like the Hulk, Namor is still controlled by Universal, and has essentially been "borrowed" by Marvel Studios. In the MCU, Namor can appear in team-up films and the like, but cannot star in a solo movie. Namor also cannot appear by himself in promotional material, with the only exception being for a character poster that's released as part of a larger series of posters.

Marvel Studios Develops Ideas on a 'Not-So-Secret' Retreat https://www.cbr.com/marvel-studios-secret-retreat-mcu/ Marvel Studios producer Nate Moore has pulled back the curtain of the company's creative process ever so slightly, dishing on an occasional retreat held for key personnel. During an appearance on The Town podcast, the producer of films such as Black Panther and Captain America shared that the "not-so-secret retreat," held at Palm Springs "every year or two," is where top executives discuss ideas and aspirations for major films made by the studio. While studio boss Kevin Feige has discussed them previously, Moore has shed some new light over what goes on behind closed doors. "We just talk about interesting characters or stories we’d love to tell or,‘Hey, if we could do anything we wanted, what would it be? Who would it be? What characters haven’t we used that we’re passionate about?’" Moore explained. The retreat typically leads to one or two major "tent poles" that are then further discussed. In fact, Moore revealed that the concept of the Multiverse and building Phase 1 around the Infinity Gauntlet were all products of ideation at the retreat. He also shared that working together on such massive ideas is made easier since they have "50+ years of material to pull from." Despite an "overwhelming" number of ideas that are shared at the retreat, the most passionate individuals work on bringing these ambitious projects to life. Delving deeper into the workings of the retreat, Moore also highlighted how characters are created and the importance of an executive becoming an expert on a specific character once they’re given the go-ahead. "For instance," Moore said, when I was put on Captain America 2, literally reading every appearance of Captain America in publishing. It takes about, I would say about 3 to 4 months." Creatives often have to go through archives of Marvel content after an idea is pitched at the retreat. During this process, they also begin building an "internal document" that makes note of the most compelling characters and their stories. Moore shared the process of his research for Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, explaining that it gave him the opportunity to encounter "characters that are really great, moments that are really great, cool facts that you maybe don’t know off the surface or off a Wikipedia entry." This in-depth research is also crucial because it gives creatives a chance to filter out problematic content in the comics and tweak it for the big screen while simultaneously coming away with "a document that’s a little bit indicative of what we think the movie could be." Once executives do their homework, the ideas are fleshed out and the pitch is then broken down and rebuilt and eventually translated into the blockbuster films that we watch onscreen.

The deal is a culmination of a complex web of rights that meant the series will have to debut first on a linear network, in this case MGM+, which is set to be relaunched with its new name in January. MGM+ will have the first window in the U.S. and the series will then air on Amazon’s Prime Video streaming service in the States.

The film combined with Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, Thor: Love and Thunder, Lightyear, and Death on the Nile all contributed to the final number.

When asked if he'd be open to playing Red Guardian "over and over" in future projects, Harbour was enthusiastic. "I do. I love Red Guardian. I can't wait to pull back the layers. The hour-long making-of documentary offers a behind-the-scenes look at the production for Werewolf by Night. Per the synopsis available on Disney+, Director by Night "tells the story of two Academy Award-winning brothers and their different ways of telling stories" and "explores the duo's filmmaking origins in the small New Jersey town where they grew up." Along with interviews with Michael Giacchino and his family members, Director by Night also features appearances from the cast, including stars Gael García Bernal and Laura Donnelly.

Disney Removes Marvel Movie From Schedule, Shifts Other Dates https://comicbook.com/movies/news/disney-removes-marvel-movie-from-schedule-shifts-other-dates/ Blade, now on pause, has been pushed back almost a year, from November 3, 2023, to September 6, 2024, taking the spot previously held by Deadpool 3, which will now open on November 8, 2024. That's the date previously held by Marvel's Fantastic Four reboot, which has shifted back to Valentine's Day, February 14, 2025, pushing back the untitled Marvel movie previously slotted there to November 7, 2025. Avengers: Secret Wars moves from November 7, 2025, to May 1, 2026. The untitled Marvel Studios movie previously dated May 1, 2026, has been removed from Disney's schedule. The other Phase 5 movies -- 2023's Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, and The Marvels, and 2024's Captain America: New World Order and Thunderbolts -- are unaffected. It is curious that, of all the Marvel Cinematic Universe Phase 6 movies, only Avengers: The Kang Dynasty, dated May 2, 2025, is unaffected by the date shuffle. There were to be two Avengers films released in 2025, but if things do not change, there will now be a year wait between The Kang Dynasty and Secret Wars, as there was between Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers Endgame. There were also six untitled Marvel movies on Disney's schedule. With Fantastic Four pushing back the one previously dated for February 14, 2025, and the May 1, 2016 film removed to make room for Secret Wars, the remaining dates include July 25, 2025, November 7, 2025, February 13, 2026, July 24, 2026, and November 6, 2026. There's a fair chance one of those dates is reserved for Armor Wars.
