It’s The Big Day. The duopoly’s big day. The Republican and Democratic parties, after all, do dominate the orchestrated contests for the White House, the U.S. Congress, 44 state legislatures; 12 governorships, seven big-city mayoralties, and a slew of important local offices. 

The presidential race, being a national campaign and the biggest political prize of all, naturally gets the most attention. This year, the duopoly’s standard bearers got lots and lots of attention, though mostly unfavorable, mirroring voters’ distaste for both candidates. “Outsider” business tycoon Donald Trump, a new-money Republican, is seen as intellectually shallow, socially crude, politically untested, an all-category phobe, and very likely to go all-out fascist if elected. Hillary Clinton is seen as an inveterate liar, dishonest to the core, co-founder (with husband Bill) of the retooled and upgraded Democratic Party patronage and corruption mill and shadow government, queen of pay-to-play, and the Houdini of a never-ending list of criminal probes.

In the mad scramble toward today, both candidates ramped up their campaigns to fever pitch, selling their heraldic big-picture stories and astutely avoiding small-picture details about them the public already knows. Most will buy what they’ve been selling.

In an almost surreal Election 2016 development, a former deputy assistant secretary of state announced yesterday that high-level operatives in the U.S. intelligence community, outraged by a Clinton-orchestrated “coup” of the U.S. government through “corruption, cooptation and cronyism,” as of yesterday began a “countercoup” to torpedo Hillary Clinton’s presidential bid and dislodge an entrenched Clinton-directed shadow government.

Former Deputy Assistant Secretary of State Steve Pieczenik said that recent and ongoing releases by WikiLeaks of damning documents about the Clinton empire are from many in the U.S. intelligence community opposed to what he called the Clintons’ “civil coup” of the U.S. government. Pieczenik cited The Bill, Hillary and Chelsea Foundation in his statement about the kind of lawlessness the intelligence group aims to expose and stop.

Thousands of emails and documents from foundation executives and other key players are being released daily by WikiLeaks. They appear to confirm Ortel’s self-initiated, two-year-old investigation.

Ortel blew the whistle on stock fraud on Wall Street prior to the 2007-2008 crash. The extent of fraud in the Clinton Foundation, he says, is of similar magnitude in the world of philanthropy.

Back in 1998, when Bill Clinton was into his second term as president, Hillary Clinton famously blamed a “vast, right-wing conspiracy” for propagating a series of scandals that were meant to tarnish the sterling reputations and characters of the White House’s two main occupants and turn the people against them. The Clintons still profess this to be true, pointing to a torrent of unflattering, even sensational, headlines and news coverage they’ve had to endure. But they always could depend on the mainstream media to blunt harsh criticism.

As Leid Stories has noted, many of the issues that have now become central to Hillary Clinton’s candidacy were raised not by major “liberal” media, but by right-of-center and independent, unapologetically partisan news outlets.
