  • Who Do You Think You Are? | 1 Corinthians 4:1-13
    October 25th, 2026
    Pastor Chad McDonald
There is no room for pride or arrogance in the body of Christ. All that we have in Christ we did not earn; we received. This is the heart of our passage for this week. 1 Corinthians 4:7 says, “For who regards you as superior? What do you have that you did not receive?” The implied answer is obvious: nothing! All that we have in Christ, we received. By grace through faith in Christ, we stand accepted before God. We received the righteousness of God through faith in Christ, who died a death we could never die, to give us a salvation we did not want, through a faith we did not have. It is all received as a gift of God’s abundant grace. It should result in an incredible security and a beautiful humility that permeates every aspect of God’s people. God’s grace secures us, compels us to worship and brings us to a place of humility with regard to one another. All of us are on the same level. We are all empty sinners who came to the Father for mercy. All that human stuff that divides us and causes us to boast, we check it at the door. We may encounter these attitudes in the world, but not in the church.I pray that you will make plans to join us this weekend for corporate worship. Corporate worship is a sacred moment where God is uniquely present among His people. Our gathering is not a routine or an informational lecture, but rather a sacred assembly where God reorients our hearts away from earthly distractions toward an eternal reality. Ask God to prepare your heart today for worship with His people. Bring a friend. Invite a neighbor and join us for worship.

  • God’s Builder | 1 Corinthians 3:10-23
    October 18th, 2026
    Pastor Chad McDonald
What do you think of when you hear the word “Preacher”? Do you think of a man in a Black robe or a motivational speaker or maybe a self-help guru? But what does scripture say a preacher really is? Paul has already described a preacher as a farmer. In our passage this week, he’ll describe a preacher as a builder. As a builder, Paul understands the need for a strong foundation and the need to operate according to code. God’s builder, in His Kingdom work, is not someone who points people to himself, but to Christ and the truth of God’s Word. Join us this weekend as we look to Christ and His Word that we might be built up into a building that glorifies Him.

  • Wisdom Revealed | 1 Corinthians 2:14-3:9
    October 11th, 2026
    Pastor Chad McDonald
Paul has established two very foundational truths in 1 Corinthians 1-2. First, you do not become a Christian because you have a high IQ, a great intellect, brilliant oratory skills or because of your moral excellence. You are a Christian because God, through the power of the Holy Spirit, opened your eyes to the beauty of the message of the cross of Christ. Earthly human wisdom did not lead you to salvation. Second, we do, however, have wisdom. We have a divine wisdom, not from men, but revealed by God through the Spirit in God’s Word so that we might know the unknowable things of God.
The question then becomes, “Who can understand these things?” As we preach the divine things of God through the Word and the power of the Holy Spirit, who understands? What makes the difference between the person who hears the Word of God and is bored out of their mind and another person who hears the same truth and can’t get enough? The same divine and eternal truth is precious to one and boring to another. What makes the difference?
I pray that you will make plans to join us this weekend as we walk through 1 Corinthians 2:14-3:9. These are important truths that we must grasp as we seek to know God in His Word and share His Word with a lost world.

  • Wisdom Revealed | 1 Corinthians 2:6-13
    October 4th, 2026
    Pastor Chad McDonald
There is no other book like the Bible. I have read a few other books more than once. I have a couple of books that I have read three times, but I read the Bible every day. I can’t get enough of it. It never gets old. The Bible isn’t just a book or a historical narrative. The Bible reveals God, and it is the foundation of God’s people.
As we gather this weekend, our purpose is not to elicit some kind of emotional response, experience a mystic encounter or provide a motivational speech. We all come as God’s people from different places and backgrounds to gather around the living Word of God as the standard of truth by which we align our lives.
In the opening chapter of 1 Corinthians, Paul argued that our salvation is not a product of human wisdom or reason. However, as Paul will now explain, we are not a wisdom-less people. We do have truth. There is a document that we hold to and a teaching upon which we rest our lives. We are not a product of human wisdom, but we are not without wisdom. We have the Word of God.
I pray that you will join us this weekend as we corporately worship the Lord through song and the study of His Word.

  • The Root Problem | 1 Corinthians 1:26 – 2:5
    September 27th, 2026
    Pastor Chad McDonald
The creativity of man is impressive. Just think of the technological advances over the last 30 years. Technology has shifted from slow, wired, dial-up connections and bulky desktop machines to an era of pocket-sized supercomputers and instantaneous global cloud-based communication. That’s just technology. Think of the scientific and medical advances. We have produced so much and made so many advances. It’s funny how impressed we can become with ourselves.
The one area where we have not progressed in is human behavior. We have not progressed in morality. We can control so much, but we cannot control human behavior. Even the wisest, most wealthy and most intelligent find themselves demented, despaired and degraded in their own behavior.
That is why the focus and heart of Paul’s preaching is Christ coming to deal with the root problem. The root problem of man is the sinfulness of the human heart, and no amount of scientific, technological or philosophical advances can touch this root problem. The only reality that can touch that problem is Christ and Him crucified.
We must always be clear on this: only the gospel has the power to change the human heart. Only the gospel has the power to change a sick world and society. Christ and Him crucified is the message that God has empowered us by His Spirit to proclaim and bear witness to in this fallen world.
As we continue our study in 1 Corinthians, this will again be the focus of Paul’s instruction. Read ahead if you have the chance. Our text will be 1 Corinthians 1:26 – 2:5. Don’t miss worship this weekend. Make plans and begin to prepare your heart for corporate worship. It’s going to be a great weekend of worship

  • The Foolishness of the Cross | 1 Corinthians 1:10-25
    September 20th, 2026
    Pastor Chad McDonald
Imagine gathering the history faculty of any major state university and explaining to them that there is no way to understand history without a Bible. Beyond that, there is no way to understand the Bible until they understand that the cross is the pinnacle of God’s revelation of Himself to man. In other words, there is no way to truly understand history without understanding the cross of Christ. His death is watershed moment of all human history. They would probably laugh you out of the room and call you names.
This was Paul’s message. He walks into Corinth, the center of philosophy and intellectualism, and does not try to impress his audience with his rhetoric, intellect, or philosophic notions. He simply preaches about the death of the Lord Jesus Christ. Paul does this for a clear and straightforward reason: so that their faith would not rest in the wisdom of men, but the power of God displayed in the death of Christ.
1 Corinthians 1:10-25 gives us a clear reminder of why we must never back away from preaching the cross of Christ. It may be foolishness to a lost and dying world but to those of us who are being saved, it is the power of God.
I pray that you will join us this weekend for worship. Make plans today to attend. Weekend worship is a Friday decision. Make the decision today. Bring a friend. Invite a co-worker or neighbor. I’ll see you at church!

  • Press On | Philippians 3
    September 6th, 2026
    Pastor Chad McDonald
Next week we will begin walking through Paul’s first letter to the Corinthians. (Actually, it was his second letter to them, but more on that next week). The church at Corinth was a deeply troubled church. Paul wrote more to them than to any other church because they had more issues. In many ways, you could describe them as the “anti-church.”
Before we begin that study, I thought it would be appropriate to consider a passage written to Paul’s favorite church, the church at Philippi. Philippians is my favorite book of the New Testament, and at the heart of this letter is a passage that I believe most clearly defines the Christian life (Philippians 3:1-16).
What does it mean to follow Christ? What does it look like for a person to trust Christ and grow in Christ? What we will find from Paul is that, while each of our journeys will have different nuances, the essence and attitude of true Christian believers should be the same. There will obviously be differences in our individual journeys, but the heart of what it means to follow Christ should not be different from one believer to another. In fact, Paul says that if we have a different attitude, the Lord will correct us.
I pray you will join us this weekend. Pastor Luke will fill pulpit for me on Saturday night and lead you through a study of John chapter one. I got a preview of his message this week. It’s a powerful message! Whether you attend Saturday night or Sunday morning, it will be a great weekend of worship at LBC.

  • The Faithful Few | Malachi 3:13 – 4:6
    August 30th, 2026
    Pastor Chad McDonald
God always has a remnant. Noah and his family stayed faithful to God in a wicked and perverse day. Elijah felt completely alone in the days of Ahab and Jezebel, but God had 7,000 prophets who had not bent the knee. Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego would not bow to an idol. Jesus had twelve men. God always has a remnant.
In the final verses of Malachi, God speaks to the faithful few. Those who had listened to the Lord and obeyed. And God reminded them that there was a day coming when God would make things right. Evil will fail, and right will prevail on the day of the Lord.
I pray that you will join us this weekend as we continue to receive encouragement from God’s prophet, Malachi. In a day when sometimes evil is rewarded and wickedness appears to be winning, let’s gather around the Word of God and be encouraged to stay faithful, swim against the current of the world, and keep one eye to the sky knowing that our day is coming.
I hope to see you at church this weekend!

  • In His Time | Malachi 2:17 – 3:12
    August 23rd, 2026
    Pastor Chad McDonald
Have you ever seen evil prosper and wondered to yourself, “Where is the justice of God?” That was the question that the nation of Israel was asking in Malachi’s day. It was a complaint against the Lord. The nation of Israel, the people of God, were struggling while the pagan nations around them seemed to be prospering. God will answer their complaint with a clear response. God is just, and He will bring justice in His time, in His way, and for His glory.
I pray you are planning to join us this weekend for worship as we continue to walk through Malachi. These passages are tough, but they are relevant to our lives and essential for our walk with Christ. Make plans to join us for worship today.
