More camera angles on kindness today with Perry and Shawna. First, it’s so hard to be kind to someone when that person has wronged you—100% natural to want to retaliate or at least hold a grudge. But that’s not what we do, because that’s not who we are! God has showered his kindness on us when we were his enemies. And he is moving us to do the same. There’s a scene in Les Miserables that paints a picture of this perfectly.
Then Perry admits, it’s easy for him to be kind to people that are kind. But not easy to be kind to nasty people. But these are the people who need our kindness the most. We get an assist from Rick Warren, pastor of Saddleback Church in Lake Forest, CA. It’s about moving from “What’s wrong with them?” to “What happened to them?” Then Paul, one our listeners shares a powerful moment when his presence shouted kindness way more than his words—What Paul did when his friend’s mom was killed in a car accident.
And finally Shawna shares that for special events, she tends to think through ahead of time what she’s going to wear and put the whole outfit together well in advance. She lays it out, so when the day comes, everything is there for her. There’s an outfit God has laid out for us and it includes kindness. It’s all about how we clothe ourselves with kindness.
