Since the mid 90s this brilliant vocalist / producer has been pleasing our ears with his output, whether as collaborator on the incredible Swell Session project with fellow Swedish producer Andreas Saag, Vocalising many artist/producer’s works or releasing sharp and glitchy electronic beats as Pinku Vääty.
Jonatan Bäckelie now makes this impressive comeback with 'Is It True?' under his Ernesto & the Basement Gospel moniker, featuring a rich blend of low-slung beats and intricate musical arrangements that highlight his angelic vocals. The release is further enhanced by a diverse extended remix package from label mates ATJAZZ and PEACEY, as well as Swedish production duo DIRTYTWO, each remix illuminating different aspects of the original while maintaining its captivating vocal flow and strong hook.

  • PREMIERE : Sahar - The Last Chapter
Reculture returns with its second installation of ‘A Touch of Culture’! Landing in 2 parts - the compilation reels in even more friends of the label showcasing the variety and depth of the narratives from the artists it closely keeps eyes on. Seven different tracks - seven different textures, emotions and soundscapes.
Hardt Antoine and label friends REj and Pattn showcase a deep and slow burning intergalactic dance of ‘Ecstasy’. Leading hard with its thumping bassline, flickers of retro-infused synths and a spiralling melody that crusade’s in passionate and melodramatic fashion.
Taking us along a wave of kinetic hi-hat-htting energy comes Sahar’s ‘The Last Chapter’. Playing dynamic in groove, it shakes, rattles and rolls along a supersonic landscape, laced with plenty of balearic-infused acid squelches and an uplifting vocal. Light in movement, it leans towards a minimally breezy vibe.
Kira Blush breathes plenty of life into the compilation with ‘Here 2 Help’. A tribal touch - this is a rhythmic number which dances, pelts and bounces around in non-stop circular vibrancy, The melody, moving along in alto form is kept to higher contempt with the dazzling haloed synths which sashay up and down the scale in enticing pace.

  • PREMIERE : Ed Rain - Subway Gang
Ed Rain is somewhat of a “new” name on the label’s roster.
His fresh debut LP, titled ‘Met Him on a Wednesday’, explores various channels of artistic expressions and ideas, compiled together into a cohesive and entertaining album.
It is an immersive venture into post-genre sonic landscapes, providing glimpses into both the artist’s serious and playful sides, offering listeners a fun and captivating auditory experience.
Whether it’s the sluggish, wavy beats of the opening tracks (Subway Gang, Slow Talk), his playful take on post-punk electronica (Invocation, z ‘AX) or his more mellow and contemplative collaborations with Julienne Dessagne (aka Fantastic Twins) and Diana Miron, Ed Rain puts on display his wide array of influences. Be it Jon Hassel and Philipp Glass’s 4th world(ish) moods or Adrian Sherwood and Bill Laswell’s dubby aesthetics, he manages to weave together a unique interpretation for a debut album.
This new project paints a space where experimentalism and emotional vulnerability coexist, where various sides of one’s personality are stirred together into the sonic pot, resulting in a vast sonic spectrum, resonating from one source.
‘Met Him on a Wednesday’ is an album about growth and rebirth and was composed and compiled between 2022-2024, by Andrei Rusu

  • PREMIERE : Ben Evers - Acid Orchestra (Man Power Remix)
German house innovator Ben Evers is having a standout year. As well as launching this label with a well-received first single, he also dropped a fantastic EP on Live At Robert Johnson. After many years as one-half of the respected Adana Twins duo, Evers is now simultaneously exploring a solo chapter that sees him delving into fresh influences and inspirations having previously made waves on labels like Permanent Vacation and Correspondant. This fresh new release opens with 'Acid Orchestra' which has militant drums and snappy hi-hats dancing over thudding kicks while a supple 303 line ripples its way through the whole mix. There is a darkness to the bass which is heightened by some menacing spoken words to make this a peak time but classy house banger. Things stay just as high impact on the brilliant 'Breakout Riddim' where old school horns bring a '90s rave feel to slamming kicks. It's a full throttle sound with some rudeboy vocals adding extra fuel to this nostalgia-tinged classic. UK mainstay Man Power is a famously versatile artist who is able to lay down dark disco, thrilling techno, and plenty in between, all with oodles of individual style on his own Me Me Me as well as Freeride Millenium and Rekids. He comes fresh from the release of his debut BBC Radio 1 Essential mix. Here, he flips 'Acid Orchestra' into a lithe and elastic jam with more deft acid details, dramatic fills and ragged synth sequences that all ride on a surging techno groove. It's strobe-lit, heart-of-the-dance floor, hands-in-the-air perfection.
Ben Evers' Acid Orchestra EP comes on Eternal Sunshine on October 18th 2024.
