Our society seems to want us to make everything about ourselves. All around us, people trumpet their successes, intelligence, beauty, in attempts to give the impression that they’re special or superior. Jesus, the Creator of the universe, came as a baby to a poor family. Pastor Mark will be teaching from the book of Luke, telling us about the importance of letting God work through us and our circumstances. We will be reminded of the fact of God’s orchestrating of events with the intent of praise going to Him alone.

Sometimes it’s difficult to watch someone become more successful than we are at something that we do. The Bible encourages us to be content where we are, but many times our flesh nature rebels against God’s directives. Pastor Mark will be teaching on the time when Jesus’ ministry began to surpass that of John the Baptist’s, and John’s response and attitude. His attitude, and his understanding of who God made him to be, is an important one for us to internalize. Doing so will carry us far on the road to being God’s fit vessel.

We all have deep desires, ones that we dare not admit to anyone. We are afraid to even pray for them in fear that God will say, “No”. Sometimes we have things we’ve prayed for, for years, with no answer of any kind from God. Pastor Mark will be telling us about someone like that, Zachariah. We will learn about how God has a very different sense of timing that we sometimes would like Him to have, because it’s not the same as ours. We will learn about the need to exercise perseverance in prayer and remaining faithful to God.

A lot of people seem to think that becoming a Christ follower is as simple as joining a local congregation. Pastor Mark will be sharing Jesus’ teaching about this. We will find out that what Jesus taught was far different than joining an organization, but a radical submission to His Lordship. We’ll discover that the life that Jesus offers requires a death. We have to die to our desire to be the leaders of our life, and instead take on His desires and ambitions. This is the only way we’ll have joy in this life and fellowship with God and Jesus in the next.

We all have things we’d like to do. We dream or imagine what it would be like to finally reach that goal. Many times, the actual experience is far different than our fantasies. The story of Simeon’s experience of meeting the baby Jesus is an amazing one – of his faithfulness in believing the promise God made to him. Pastor Mark will be teaching from the book of Luke and explaining our necessity to move from theoretical to practical, hands-on experience in regards to following Christ. Too often, we sit around and talk about or think about doing what God’s called us to do instead of trusting Him and diving in and getting our hands dirty.

It seems that when asked, most people believe they’re going to Heaven because they’re good – in their own eyes. Or, they aren’t as “bad” as someone else. The Bible is very clear, though – none of us are going to heaven. The standard is perfection, and we all know we fall short of that. Pastor Mark will be teaching about the events leading up to the birth of Jesus and the messages that were given to the parents of John the Baptist and Jesus. We’ll be taught about God’s intent for those two men and how John was going to prepare the way for the Messiah, Jesus, Who would do what it took to wipe out our debt of sin.
