If it were possible to see the actual condition of your spirit, what would be seen? Would it be strong and healthy, or shriveled and sickly? Pastor Mark will be addressing our need to have the right attitude toward our relationship with God. It’s so easy to get into a routine of Bible reading and church attendance and activities that we forget why we do them, and for Whom we’re supposed to be doing them. We will be encouraged to take an honest look at our spiritual condition and to ask God to help us to get realigned back with Him if it’s necessary for us to do so.

If you’ve been a churchgoer for any length of time, you’ve heard the story of Mary and Martha. Martha’s frustration with her sister’s failure to help prepare their meal, instead sitting and listening to Jesus teach. Pastor Mark will recount this story from Luke chapter ten. He’ll share with us Jesus’ view of the situation as well as giving some insight as to why Jesus complimented Mary and chided Martha. We will learn how this applies to our motives for what we do in trying to further the cause of Christ, and how to be sure that our attitude towards our work is correct.

We hate being pinned down by a negative truth about ourselves, don’t we? We squirm and try anything to avoid facing the reality about what we did or how we treated another. Jesus pinned someone down and they thought they escaped by asking a seemingly unrelated question. As Pastor Mark will be teaching, the question actually leads to a greater truth about our responsibility to others as well as exposing the sin in this man’s heart. There are plenty of chances for us to see ourselves in this story. If you do, we hope that you will ask God to change your heart to be like His.

It is sobering to think about having the God Who created the universe living inside us! Knowing that we have the Power inside us to actually live life the way God as commanded us to is amazing. As Pastor Mark will be teaching, we have something the men of the Old Testament didn’t have. We should be careful to exercise faith at every opportunity and be obedient to what God has told us in His Word to do. Understanding that we don’t have to meet God’s standard by our own force of will is such a relief. We’ll hear more about the need to share this good news with others.

If you’ve tried to share the message of God’s love shown through Christ, you’ve probably been rejected. Jesus warned His followers before they went out to try to spread the good news of the Gospel that some would reject them. He told them to forget about the rejection and to move on to somewhere that was receptive to their tidings. Pastor Mark will be reminding us that the people are rejecting Jesus, not us, and that we should continue to pray for them and ask God for more chances to witness to other people. And may God have mercy on their souls.

Sometimes we get this mindset that the “mission field” is in another country, far from our regular lives. Pastor Mark will be teaching us that Jesus told His disciples that the mission field was all around them; it was everywhere they went. As Jesus’ followers, we need to understand that what Jesus told Peter and John applies to us as well. The passage in Luke that Pastor Mark will be sharing will tell us that we have an advantage those around Jesus didn’t have at the time in the story – we have the Holy Spirit living inside us. We need to take advantage of that.
