  • 8 Ways to Find Deeper Meaning in Life

There’s more to life than just going to work, eating dinner, maintaining your home, and watching TV. Even people that are obsessed with their careers can feel like their life is flat and lacks real meaning.

You might be lucky enough to find true meaning from your work, but most of us desire greater fulfillment.

We’re all searching for some kind of meaning from life.

But, how do you find it?

Use these tips to find greater meaning in your day-to-day life:

    1. Volunteer.

Put your attention on others, and you’ll feel better overall. It feels good to help other people, to make a difference in someone else’s life, and your life will feel more meaningful as a result.

    2. Live by your values.

When you ignore your values, it’s easy for your life to get off track. You quickly find yourself living a life that doesn’t fulfill you. List your values and make your decisions based on your values.

    3. Spend more time with others.

It’s not that you can’t have a meaningful life without other people, but it’s less likely. We’re programmed to be part of a community. It wasn’t that long ago that it was impossible for a human to survive on his own. People can add meaning to life.

  • 12 Timewasters to Avoid at All Costs

We all feel like we don't have enough time. But most of us waste far more time each week than we care to admit. The perfect time waster is enjoyable, allows time to fly by, and is highly distracting.

Today, we have plenty of distractions that fit the bill for a perfect distraction. Time wasters are mostly habits that provide little to no meaningful reward for time invested.

Avoid these time wasters and you will add more hours to your day to do what really matters to you:

    1. Clutter.
Clutter is a huge waste of time. Everything seems to be getting in your way. It's hard to find the things you need. It's also emotionally stressful. Have you ever noticed how peaceful a sparsely decorated room feels? You can create that same environment.

    2. Worrying.
There is no evidence that your thoughts impact the outside world. You can worry all you want about the weather, your debt, or your relationship.

    ● Worrying only creates physical and emotional stress. It also makes you less productive and less able to deal with the problem.

    3. Perfectionism.
Ask yourself how well something needs to be done and strive to achieve that level of quality. Perfection is an impossible goal and takes far more time than it's worth.

    4. Electronic devices.
How much time do you spend each week watching television, surfing the Internet, or looking at your phone? Do you play video games? Count all that time and ask yourself if there is something more productive you could be doing.

    5. Social networks.
In theory, social media is a great thing. But in practice, it's time consuming and stressful.

    6. Multitask. It is much more effective to do one thing at a time.
Refocusing your attention on multiple tasks takes time and destroys any momentum you've created.

  • Do Your Goals Support Your Values?

If you’re struggling to be as successful as you’d like to be, there’s a great chance that a discrepancy exists between your goals and your values. If our goals are antithetical to our values, success is all but impossible. We don’t like to behave in ways that are counter to our values. If a mismatch exists, something has to give.

If you’re forever coming up short when it comes to achieving your dreams, your values might be at odds with your goals.

Use these techniques to set goals that support your values

    1. List your current values.

Have you ever taken the time to examine your values? Most people have never given their values a second thought. This is a shame, because a person’s values guide their thinking, decisions, and actions.

    ● Take 30 minutes and list your values. Put them in order of their priority to you.

    ● Ask yourself if your behavior is aligned with your values. If there’s a mismatch, what set of values would actually represent your behavior?

    ● Most of us have an idealized impression of our intentions, values, and qualities.

    2. What are you trying to accomplish?

What are your goals in life? What do you want to accomplish? Do you want to be wealthy? Get a six-pack? Write a screenplay? Save the whales? Build a real estate empire? The first step to any great success is to identify your objectives.

    3. How do your current values impact your goals?

If your values and goals don’t match, the odds of success are dismal without something changing.

    ● For example, if you believe that wealthy people are fundamentally bad, you’ll never accumulate a significant amount of wealth.

    ● If comfort is a high priority for you, that six-pack will never materialize.

    ● Do you value having a lot of leisure time? A goal that requires a lot of work isn’t going to happen.

    ● Look at your goals and look at your values. Do your goals support those values? Do your values support your goals?

  • 9 Ways in which Tackling Clutter Can Enhance Your Wellbeing

As humans, we all have a habit of collecting and accumulating clutter. Often, our cupboards are full of gadgets and accessories we don’t use anymore. Have you considered having a rummage through your cupboards and your home and eliminating clutter from your spaces?

Did you know that removing clutter from your workspace or your home can have significant benefits on your wellbeing? From bringing down your stress levels to helping you become more productive, a good clear-out can be wonderfully therapeutic.

    Consider these benefits:

    1. A tidy space leads to a tidy mind.

When you start removing clutter from the places you spend your time, they immediately feel more spacious. You’ll start noticing you have more room to move and your space will be more enjoyable to be in.

    ● A tidy space is airier, roomier, and cozier. By decluttering your space, you’ll feel more relaxed, calmer, and able to focus your thoughts, simply because the space around you will feel calmer too.

    2. A tidy space is easier to clean.

If clutter is successfully eliminated from an area, then everything in that space has a purpose. You’ll find decluttered spaces are easier to clean, too, because you don’t have to deal with a lot of items just being in your way. This one thing cuts down on frustration.

    ● In turn, a cleaner house will have a more relaxing feeling to it and will be a more pleasant place to unwind and spend time.

    3. Everything will be easier to find.

When you eradicate clutter from your spaces, you only have everything you need on hand. You can spend less time looking for things and more time putting things in easier, convenient spaces. This means less time tidying, more time enjoying your valuable time.

    4. Free yourself from emotional baggage.

Clutter can hold painful memories. Whether you’re holding on to clutter from a past relationship or you’re keeping hold of something you don’t want or need, taking the opportunity to declutter can make you feel more positive and in control.

  • Extrinsic Versus Intrinsic Motivation

Extrinsic motivation is when you do something to receive a reward or to avoid punishment. For example, a child wants to make the basketball team so he can be popular and get closer to the cheerleaders.

Intrinsic motivation is when doing an activity is rewarding in and of itself. A child wants to be on the basketball team because he loves to play basketball. Or he’s fascinated with the idea of learning the game. The reward is internal.

    Consider these examples:

    ● Most people don’t go to work because they love going to their job (intrinsic). They go because they receive money for it (extrinsic).

    ● A child does her chores because she wants to receive a reward or to avoid punishment. (extrinsic)

    ● Do you love the idea of starting a business because the challenge excites you (intrinsic)? Or, do you dislike the idea of starting a business, but the potential financial reward (extrinsic) is intriguing enough for you to do it?

    ● Do you truly enjoy spending time with your partner (intrinsic), or is the primary reward the financial security, companionship, and the opportunity to have children (extrinsic)?

    ● Do you stay with your partner for love (intrinsic), or because the consequences of leaving would be too difficult (extrinsic)?

    ● Do you struggle to accomplish anything without deadlines (extrinsic)? Or, do you love the feeling of getting your work done and can’t stop yourself from doing it as soon as possible (intrinsic)?

We all have intrinsic and extrinsic motivators.

Because intrinsic motivation relies directly on how you honestly feel about something, this type of motivation is a more effective way of creating long-term happiness.

If you want to develop more intrinsic motivation in your day-to-day life, these techniques will help:

    1. Make a list of the things you love to do.

If your doctor tells you that you need more exercise, there are many different types of exercise you can do. You could play tennis, run, swim, lift weights, or play soccer. If one of those activities is very enjoyable to you, it only makes sense to choose that activity.

    ● Whenever you need to do something, consider the most enjoyable way to accomplish it. When you can find something you enjoy, it will be hard to stop yourself from doing it.

  • 4 Huge Myths About Motivation

Motivation is powerful, but not entirely necessary. Motivation makes it easier to take action, but you take plenty of actions without the presence of traditional motivation. Without motivation, it’s also easy to procrastinate. Motivation is tricky.

What exactly is motivation? Is it enthusiasm for an action?

Or is it just a situation where taking an action has become more desirable than not taking action? You might not be excited about doing a report at work, but at some point, the anxiety of not getting it done becomes worse than just doing the work.

What do you think? How do you define motivation?

    Consider these motivation myths:

    1. Myth: Motivation is all that matters.

Could a 70-year-old woman play in the NBA? Can just anyone make a living as a pop singer? No. Motivation is great, but there are a lot of other things that matter, too. Intelligence, talent, skill, resources, and opportunity are just a few things that also matter.

    ● In spite of what your mother told you, there are a lot of things you could never do no matter how motivated you are. But it’s okay. She still loves you.

    ● However, motivation is far from worthless. You’ll have to manage yourself far less if you’re motivated to do something positive that supports your goals and values. A lack of motivation is challenging, however.

    2. Myth: You can’t do anything without motivation.

You can’t? Are you excited to go to your job each day? Probably not. Are you thrilled to get out of bed each day? Unlikely. There are plenty of things you can do whether you’re motivated or not. What are some things that you regularly do that you truly don’t want to do?

  • Knowing When to Quit

There is truth in the statement, “Never Give Up,” but only for some issues, some people, and for some of the time. It’s important to weigh what is to be gained by your persistence against what you’re losing by not being decisive, cutting your losses, and moving on.

The prime and most significant loss is time. Regardless of what the issue is - a job, business, relationship, or project - the amount of time you can consume by allowing the issue to drag on well past its “sell by date” can never be reclaimed.

Wise strategies cannot be created from a place of thinking about the issue as either good or bad, or if making a decision is a reflection of your skills, abilities, reputation, or self-worth. Nor can they be made from a place of thinking that you’ve invested too much time and energy in this issue to quit now.

    How Do You REALLY Feel?

Life is a rich tapestry of mixed feelings. It’s the nature of all things to feel differently about most things day-to-day.

But if the feelings about specific issues seem to fall consistently towards negative feelings, it’s important to take a look at what’s going on and take stock of the situation.

    Clarify the Issue

To make smart, objective decisions you need viable information to work from. Make a pros & cons list about the issue and write down:

    ● What you feel
    ● When you feel it
    ● What you can do about it.

What you are looking for here is a balanced awareness of the issue and clarity on what’s really going on.

Give things enough time. Some things take time, but time alone doesn’t always resolve the situation.

It’s crucial to get clear on what needs to be done and be decisive about any choices you make. Nothing is going to change until you make a decision and take action.

Sometimes quitting is the very best thing you can do.

Some people have no problem at all letting go of things. They see quitting as simply a change in direction.

Others have a hard time letting go of anything and see quitting as some kind of failure, even in the face of overwhelming evidence that it never would have worked out anyway.

  • Top 10 Tips for Reinventing Yourself

Most of us, at some point in our lives, are presented with the opportunity to reinvent ourselves. If you change your job, move to a different town or even country, you can tidy up all the loose ends in your recent past and step out into a brand-new persona.

You can change the way you dress, live, and how you show up in life. This is a particularly refreshing time for those people who welcome change, because it gives them a reason and a purpose to change everything at the same time.

If you relish the opportunity to change, consider these Top 10 Tips for reinventing yourself:

    1. Avoid giving in to what is expected, reasonable, sensible, or appropriate.

The point here is to enjoy yourself. For example:

    ● If you’ve been ‘the grey suit guy’ all your life and you want to be the Hawaiian Shirt guy, just do it.

    ● If you’ve been ‘the modest condo guy’, and you secretly lusted after a penthouse suite with views of the ocean, find one.

    ● And if you’ve always been the ‘BMW sedan guy’ but love the idea of driving a 55 Chevy pick-up, this is your time to shine. People will notice that you live life according to your own rules, and you can enjoy every minute of it!

    2. If you’re in a new job or locale, this is a time to make new friends.

Choose carefully and wisely. You don’t need to be everybody’s friend.

    ● Keep your circle small. Sound people out and use your new friends to sound out new places and potential new hobbies too. Others will notice that you’re friendly but have a private side too.

    3. Practice being a great listener. You’ll be amazed at what you can learn about people, places, and everything else if you just listen.

Ask lots of questions. You’re new here and others will expect you to ask questions. Ask some good ones…and listen.

    ● A surprising perk of this technique is that others will refer to you as a great conversationalist!

    4. Take time to explore the area …. alone.

You’ll notice and appreciate more if you’re alone. Take pictures and make notes. It will make for great conversations later!

    5. Be a good neighbor.

Take time to help others. Practice random acts of kindness at every opportunity.

    ● Others will appreciate you and speak well of you, especially if you help with no thought of a reward. Do it because you can and for no other reason.

  • 9 Healthy Tips to Help Cope With Anxiety

If you struggle with anxiety on a daily basis, you may find yourself using unhealthy methods, such as drug or alcohol abuse, to cope with it.

For obvious reasons, this is not the best approach, but what is?

    Consider these strategies:

    1. Deep breathing exercises.

Many of us use our chests to breathe rather than the diaphragm, which is a large muscle found in your abdomen. When you breathe in, your stomach should expand and then contract when you breathe out.

    ● Breathing with only your chest will cause you to have short and shallow breaths that can cause increased stress and anxiety.

    2. Progressive muscle relaxation.

This technique involves tensing your muscles and then relaxing them one at a time. When you do this you’re teaching your muscles that when you’re stressed, which often causes muscle tension, that you need to relax.

    3. Mindfulness.

This is a common technique to reduce anxiety. With mindfulness, you put your full attention on what you’re doing in that moment. You notice the sights, sounds, and smells around you. When your full focus is on the present moment, there isn’t room for feelings of anxiety.

    4. Self-monitoring.

What triggers your anxiety? It may be that certain people, events, or situations cause you to feel anxious. Once you figure out your triggers, you may be able to do something to prevent the oncoming anxiety.

  • 5 Easy Steps to Grooming Yourself for Success

It’s always important to put your best foot forward. After all, a good first impression is the best expression, and it lasts. One good way to leave a first impression that supports your success is to start by being personally and/or professionally groomed.

However, grooming for success is a lifestyle. Grooming is not just about how we present ourselves to appear properly attired and hygienically clean, but it’s also about taking effective actions to succeed.

Try these tips and set yourself up to achieve whatever you seek in life:

    1. Dress for success.

Knowing how to coordinate your outfits and wardrobe for a professional presence will make others take notice of you and see you in a more professional light. It aids in getting that promotion and positions you for the next level.

    ● Even when you’re not at the level where you want to be at work, still dress the part. It will help you get there!

    2. Positive posturing.

Confidence (not arrogance) is necessary to project a positive image. This attracts others who see your ability. So, bring your A-game each day.

    ● If you don’t feel confident, act confident anyway. This can help you feel the confidence that you currently lack. Remind yourself of past successes and let yourself be proud of those successes. Soon, you’ll build greater confidence and won’t have to fake it anymore.

    ● Maintain humility and gratitude for your job, friends, and family. This goes a long way into placing you in a positive position.

    ● You’ve heard the saying, “Birds of a feather flock together!” This well-known saying means that your actions and the company you keep can either propel you to great heights or hold you back.
