Perhaps you’re stuck at home for whatever reason, but that doesn’t mean your personal development has to be put on hold. There are plenty of ways to continue developing yourself without leaving home. There’s always a way if you’re committed and motivated.
In fact, you probably have more free time on your hands than you usually do. Now might be the best opportunity that you’ve had in a long time to take your development to the next level.
Consider these ideas:
1. Exercise.
You can get all the exercise that most people require right at home.
● Think of all the exercises that don’t require fancy equipment. Calisthenics, jumping rope, running, and playing basketball, just to name a few. You can ride your bike or do cartwheels in your front yard. Jog in place. Follow along with an exercise video on your computer or TV.
2. Read.
You can still order real books and eBooks. Many of the local libraries still have a process in place for checking out books. There’s also plenty of content available online. You don’t have to leave your home to read.
3. Meditate.
Meditation is the perfect personal development activity to do at home. Plus, it’s free. Meditation can reduce stress and help you to learn how to focus your attention at a higher level.
4. Learn online.
The internet is full of free and pay courses. You can learn to draw, speak a language, play the piano, or how to do integral calculus. There’s a course for whatever it is you want to learn. What interests you?
5. Write. Develop your writing skills.
Keep a journal. There are all sorts of ways to use writing to further develop yourself. Written communication is a valuable skill to master.

Do you spend all of your free time reading and gathering information? Are you a self-help junkie that never seems to make any meaningful progress in your life? Are you trying to take your life to the next level by using the power of your mind alone?
How is that working for you?
Nothing changes until your behavior changes. Sure, you might feel better about your life after all of your mental gymnastics, but is anything actually happening in your life from all of these intellectual efforts?
Take action and watch your life change before your eyes!
Consider these ideas:
1. You have to do something for something to happen.
Nothing happens until you act. You can’t wish or visualize your way to a plate of food, a fancy car, the partner or your dreams, or a successful business. Those things might make it easier for you to act, but you must still take action of some kind.
● Unless you’re telekinetic, you can’t even make a paperclip move across your desk without taking action.
● The more you want to accomplish, the bigger the action you’ll need to take.
2. It’s not what you can do that matters.
It’s what you actually do that counts. The amount of capability you possess only increases the number of options you have available.
● Having options isn’t the same as choosing one and taking action.

You have a powerful imagination even if you don’t realize it. Your brain is able to generate some great ideas.
While your imagination is always available, it’s not always at its best. It’s important to use it and feed it to keep it sharp. With a little work, your imagination will serve you well.
Who couldn’t use a great idea or two?
Try these techniques to release your creative genius:
1. Spend more time alone.
The most creative people also tend to be those who spend the most time alone. Your imagination can run free when you’re alone. People are distracting.
2. Set aside time to be creative.
Creativity and your imagination go hand in hand. Set aside some time each day to be creative. Your imagination will benefit, too.
● The more you grow your creativity, the more your imagination will grow, and vice-versa.
3. Set aside time to visualize.
Practice visualizing each day. Visualize things you know. Visualize things that don’t exist. Really stretch your ability to see things in your mind. Here are two exercises to get you started:
● Close your eyes and imagine a piece of fruit in your hand. Describe in detail what it looks like, how it feels in your hand, and how it smells. Now, take a bite and describe the taste.
● Visualize yourself in a pleasant environment, perhaps the beach. Fully experience being in that place. What do you see, hear, smell, and feel? How real does it feel to you?
4. Allow yourself to daydream every day.
Allow your creativity to run wild. Daydream for at least a few minutes each day. Just see where your imagination takes you.
● Avoid the temptation to steer your daydream in a particular direction.

Low self-esteem can cause a vicious cycle which makes you feel worse and worse. Feeling badly about yourself can lead you to feel unmotivated to change what is making you feel down in the first place. If you don’t change the root cause of your negative feelings, then your self-esteem takes an even deeper dive.
This cycle of negativity can be damaging, but there are things that you can do to break the cycle.
Try these techniques to give your self-esteem a boost:
1. Learn and master a new skill.
When you learn a new skill and become good at it, your confidence will no doubt grow. This is especially true if the skill benefits something you already do.
2. Make a list of all of your accomplishments.
It can be easy to forget all of the things you’ve achieved in your lifetime. So, make a list of these accomplishments, and from time to time, read the list to remind yourself of them. You’ll feel much better about yourself.
3. Do something creative.
Being creative helps to stimulate your brain, and the more use your brain gets the bigger the benefits. If you combine creativity with trying something new, even more benefits will be achieved.
4. Set values for your life.
What are your values? Does your current lifestyle reflect these values? If it doesn’t, take action to make the necessary changes. Learning who you are and what you stand for, and then living these values, will increase your confidence.
5. Think positive.
Instead of thinking negatively when faced with a difficult task, think about it as a challenge that you can overcome. Think positively, consider what you can learn from the experience, and be proud of yourself once you’ve accomplished it.

One of the best ways to gain clarity about your life is by journaling your thoughts and feelings. Especially if you're feeling conflicted or confused about certain situations, writing your thoughts out can be incredibly enlightening!
You don't have to be a "writer" to journal effectively. In fact, your writing skills don't have to be good at all. Just the act of putting your thoughts into logical order and translating them to written form can help you to understand what you're feeling, and why. Here are some tips to help you use journaling for personal growth:
1) Keep it simple.
You don't need to spend a lot of money on a fancy journal. In fact, unless you're an experienced journaler, I recommend using an inexpensive, lined notebook. Then you won't feel so much pressure to be "perfect" in what you write. You won't be afraid to scribble and scrawl whatever happens to flow onto the paper.
2) Don't hold back.
When you journal for the purposes of personal growth, don't try to edit yourself, or make your writing understandable to anyone else. The most freeing technique IS to put your pen to paper and just write whatever comes to mind. No one else will see it unless you want them to, so let 'er rip!
3) Focus on the feelings.
If you find yourself stumped about what to write in your journal, begin with the phrase, "I feel..."". This will usually get your thoughts and feelings flowing, and you will be better able to express them in writing.
4) Guided journaling.
Another helpful technique is guided journaling, which means providing a prompt for yourself. Especially if you're struggling with something specific, you can more easily get the words flowing with a nudge in the right direction. Some example prompts would be, "Describe your perfect career and the reasons it would fulfill you.' Or, "Think about the most painful experience in your past and write about the ways it has affected who you are today."

How did you spend your day yesterday? When was the last time you went to see a movie? Can you remember the plot line? What did you do on your last vacation? Did you enjoy a particular meal, or visit a special tourist site that meant something special to you?
While none of the answers to these questions matter in the overall scheme of life, they are a part of your life, and may very well matter to you at some point in time.
Learning to journal our experiences, and the special events in our lives can teach us about the fluidity of daily situations, how they fit together, and how they impact each other.
Through journaling our experiences we can make connections to and through the flow of our lives. Perhaps as a child you always spent Thanksgiving at your grandparents' house, saw aunts, uncles, cousins and assorted friends and neighbors around the holiday table.
Although you enjoyed the experience, each Thanksgiving as an adult has a certain poignancy about it on which you just can't place your finger.
Taking time to journal through the next Thanksgiving Day, the day after the festivities are complete, may help you make connections about your present feelings and how they are associated with the holiday.

While no one wants to feel lonely, there are many benefits to spending time alone. If you’re feeling overwhelmed, struggling to concentrate, or just need some time to yourself, a little solitude might be just what you need.
Even if you live in a big city, there are ways to carve out some time to yourself without the presence of others.
Everyone would be well-served to have some time alone each day.
Solitude is better than you think! Consider these benefits:
1. You learn a lot about yourself.
It’s hard to give yourself a lot of attention and notice the more subtle aspects of yourself when there are other people and activity swirling around you all day long. Spending time alone gives you a chance to breathe and take a look at yourself.
● You have the luxury of noticing your thoughts and thought patterns when you’re alone. You can observe things about yourself that are hard to see when you’re distracted.
2. It’s much easier to focus.
Solitude leads to much greater focus. Imagine having hours of uninterrupted time to focus on a single task or goal. It’s life-altering.
3. Your creativity will soar.
Nearly all of the greatest scientists, authors, artists, composers, musicians, and inventors live in solitude much of the time. Solitude can enable you to achieve the level of creativity necessary to excel in these fields.
4. You’re more productive.
You can get a lot more done when you spend time in solitude. Every distraction requires time and energy to recover and get back on track.
● You can often accomplish much more in a couple of hours by yourself than you can in a full day with others around.
5. You can focus on yourself and your needs.
Solitude gives you the opportunity to take care of yourself. You can explore your interests. You can spend your time on yourself. If there are other people around, they usually want you to spend your time on them instead.
6. Solitude can benefit your mental health.
Spending some time alone on a regular basis can do wonders for your mental health. Being alone gives you a chance to unwind and take a break from the stress of dealing with others.

Everyone has a story. Your experiences, your feelings, ideas, thoughts, and dreams all combine to form your life and your journey, which is your story. A great way to keep a relative reflection of all those things that have happened in your life is to keep a journal. A daily journal, a weekly journal, a month end summary journal, any or all these are ways you can keep track and record your experiences, your story.
Your story, your journal is all about whatever, whomever, however, whenever you want it to be about. YOUR journal can contain a word a day, a paragraph, or pages. You can write in YOUR journal every day, or you can write every week or every month. (Recently did not journal for two months.) Some people have not journaled for years and then started again, when the time was right for them. Remember it is your journal, you choose when to write and when not to write.
YOUR journal contains whatever you want to write about The beauty of the sunset you saw tonite, your concerns and hopes for your children, the joy and inspiration of the new art exhibit you just saw, your fear and excitement about what is happening in a relationship, how happy you are with your new assignment at work.
Writing about whatever IS important to you right then and there is journaling. There can be a theme to your journal, or not. I have written about soup, the weather, my self, my friends, and my dreams for the future. A journal, which is the same as a diary, is a place where you choose to store what is important to you.
The start of your journal can be any day of any year. The day you feel you want to start recording your experiences and thoughts is the perfect day to start journaling. It can be January 1, August 19, or today. There is no set time of year to begin a journal or to start to journal again. Some people like the idea of starting their journaling on January 1 .
They write their goals and ideas at the beginning of the year. Others like the idea of starting the very day it occurs to them that they want to write about their lives in a journal. Whatever you choose, it is the right way for you, and that is all that matters.
What you want to journal in is up to you. You may get a notebook, plain paper, or a blank book. You decide. What you want to write with, a pen or a pencil, is also up to you. I journal with a favorite pen that makes my writing easier for me because it "glides" across the paper.
You can also record your journal on tape, video, or the computer. Writing letters can be another form of ournaling your experiences. Another way to journal is to write daily on a calendar.
Remembering to take vitamins is hard for me to do everyday. Unless I set them somewhere that I will see them, I can easily forget to take them. The same is true for my journaling.

For the past several years, I have found joy working as a motivational writer and speaker. One of my greatest passions has been the gift of sharing my deep love and respect for the written word. Words are powerful.
They provoke thought, stimulate creativity, and most importantly, they hold within them the power to heal. Most people do not realize the incredible life changing potential writing has.
Journaling is a practical tool that anyone can use to enhance personal well being. It knows no limitations and it is available to anyone willing to make a commitment to themselves.
It only requires minimal investments of time and money, and provides fast results. From the practical to the artistic, there are many varieties of journaling styles, all providing healing benefits.
Through this series of articles, I will explore how journaling heals, journaling styles, and the keys to successful journaling.
How Journaling Heals:
Journaling helps clear the mind
Journaling is an excellent method of clearing mind-clutter and managing thought patterns. The "untamed" mind tends to wander about aimlessly. At any given moment, we have a multitude of thoughts and internal conversations.
Our random thoughts can turn into worries, which turn into stress, which can then manifest as conditions like depression or illness. The act of addressing our thoughts and acknowledging our inner voice allows us to clearly express our feelings, motivations, and desires.
When we do this, we gain the insight needed to effectively manage them. What many fail to realize, is that even seemingly random thoughts, hold powerful energy. All energy seeks an outlet to express itself, therefore what we think and believe manifests.
Spend some time today consciously paying attention to where your thoughts go. Notice the ratio of positive to negative.
When engaging in self-talk, what does the inner voice express? Is it primarily negative self-talk, worry, or other energy zapping emotions? If so, journaling is a positive first step that can be immediately taken to help understand and then redirect these sneaky self-sabotagers.
Journaling Sparks Creativity
It is very important, particularly for those of us in creative fields, to always have an outlet that enhances our creativity by challenging us to think in new ways. Journaling provides that, because it causes us to purposefully express our thoughts and emotions.
Through reestablishing a conscious connection to our thoughts, emotions, and experiences we provide the challenge our mind needs to keep its creative spark. Writing prompts and exercises are a great way to wake up the inner muse. They keep us thinking on our toes, and often become the launching points of bigger projects.
Journaling Keeps Us Honest
When we approach journaling with an open mind and heart, and we commit to being completely candid with ourselves, we open up to limitless opportunity for growth and healing. Through total honesty, we begin to peel away the layers of our psyche.
The masks we wear begin to fall away , revealing our true nature who we are when we aren't "the parent, the employee, the friend" and are just ourselves. Many spiritual paths have taught the importance of knowing yourself.
The soul mate in the mirror is worthy of our utmost integrity. Journaling Allows Us to Express Ourselves Without Judgment Journaling provides a forum where we can express ourselves fully and completely. If we approach this honestly, a journal can become a best friend and confidant.
It won't give needless advice, is never too busy to listen, and is always there for you when needed. Acceptance is a quality we all seek , we have a deep drive to find it. The truth is, the majority of us seek in others what we cannot give ourselves. Journaling opens up the doors to a process of self-acceptance, without which true healing canno

On any given day, how many people, events, problems, projects, family issues, things to remember and appointments are running through your mind? A LOT, right? If you're writing a book, you have to add on top of that a whole other world of characters, events, settings, plots, (if you're writing fiction) or stories, bullet points, theories and rhetoric (if you're writing non-fiction). How do you keep track of it all?
Keeping a journal for your book can be a great tool. In it you can keep your outline, character details, plotting charts and anything else that serves as a guide for helping you stay on track.
The following IS a simple outline of headings for setting up your daily journal pages to help you with the day-to-day writing of your book. Word Goal
At the top of your page start out with the date of the writing session and set a goal for how many words you will write for the day. Make the number big enough to challenge you, but not too big that you feel overwhelmed if you consistently miss it.
You can also keep the word goal in line with what you're working on that day. If you are re-writing a chapter instead of creating a new one, then your word count for the day will be significantly smaller. (And that's okay!) Today's Work Will Focus On...
Under this heading you will plan out what you want to handle in the session. Are you writing a dialogue where your main character learns someone's innermost secrets? Are you doing a scene setter that places the reader in the heart of your book? Are you writing a how-to chapter to explain how the reader can put to use the new strategies you've given them on how to be a better networker? Doing this also makes the word goal less intimidating because you immediately see what you're going to do with all those words! What Problems Might I Encounter?
There WILL be problems--no big deal. Note what they may be so you won't get tangled up in the problem as you're sitting in front of the computer screen. Write down each one.
