The Celtics beat up the Knicks 133-118 and set a new franchise record with 27 made 3pt fgs. They made these the right way meaning there weren't a ton of pullup 3s, in fact the Celtics assisted on 21 of their 27 made 3s! I know people tend to think the Celtics are too trigger happy from 3 and I tend to agree but right now the Celtics are leading the league in PPG with 118.8. They are leading the league in 3pt FGM with 16 and are 5th in the league in 3pt % so the numbers are backing up their efforts. We saw some really great performances tonight but to me, Marcus Smart was outstanding. He played the exact role that everyone wants him to play. He led the team in assists with 11, didn't take ill advised shots and the shots that he took, he made at an efficient rate.
Overall, this was a fun game to watch from the offensive end but there are still some issues the Celtics need to work through. While the rotations tend to confuse the hell out of me, they seem to be working. With this being the second night of a back to back, we didn't see Horford so Joe opted to put Blake in the starting lineup. Then we saw Vonleh, who actually had a really solid game, get the backup minutes. In the last couple games, it looked pretty apparent that Kornet was the backup big and tonight he was a DNP CD so I'm not sure if they decided to get him some rest as well because of the B2B but that is weird to me. With no Horford or Kornet, the Celtics opted to go small for the majority of this game and in doing so were outrebounded 44-34. We also got crushed in pts in the paint 64-30. With that being said, we outscored the Knicks by 48 from 3 which is why this game ended the way it did! Either way, solid win in MSG!
