Do you know what the religion of a post Christian culture is? Do you know the undergirding philosophies driving that religion?  Here are some hints:  abortion rights, same sex marriage legislations, gay rights, rampant fornication and adultery.  It is the "religion of sex" and the three philosophies are scientism, hedonism and materialism.  With these competing to for the hearts, minds, and morality of the culture, the Christian church must hold up the biblical Christian worldview. But what is the Christian worldview when only 54%+/- American Christians embrace a biblical worldview (those numbers may be lower today).

With all that is happening in the climate of culture, the biggest concern for the Christian church should be how far behind the Eight Ball we really are with engaging what is potentially coming.  Part of the reason is that thinking has taken a back seat to feelings and experience in the setting of faith. The other part of the equation is that the discipline of the mind and the task of apologetics appears to be more and more marginalized as we move forward to a boiling point in our culture.

Thinking about where our culture is going, one cannot help wonder about the church's effectiveness in this post truth culture in reaching those without Christ. The truth is that every believer already, whether they realize it or not, does some form of pre-evangelism (apologetics) to the ones who are hostile to the gospel message.  The question now becomes, do we want to continue to do it poorly or do we want to do it well?  Is there are place for apologetics with evangelism?   

On the Let's Get Real Podcast w/Rob Lundberg, Rob shares the difference between evangelism and apologetics, and then moves into sharing what apologetics cannot and can do. Following this groundwork, Rob presents three angles to show the importance of apologetics being brought into our evangelism in a post truth culture.

There are many things to learn about the usages of apologetics. But one thing is for certain, with the rise of skepticism both inside and outside the church, apologetics should be the new discipleship. On the Let's Get Real Podcast, talks about the need for apologetics being a modern day discipleship. Part of this show, Rob addresses pastors and ministry leaders who take the "just give me Jesus and the Bible," showing them and others that the Bible is the best apologetics book in existence.

Where would you put the task of apologetics on the list of all other types of ministry in the local church? Whenever apologetics is mentioned in the conversation of the local church, people show a lack of interest, give a thousand mile stare or break out in a "spiritual rash"?  With the rise of secularism in the American culture, and the influence of a "cancel culture" making its way in the church, Rob re-visits the subject of the definition of apologetics along with a handful of eight biblical points for apologetics based upon 1 Peter 3:15. After that, Rob then provides four beneficial reasons for why apologetics can no longer be ignored by pastors, ministry leaders and believers.

If you were to ask your young person who Jesus is, what kind of answer will you get?  Many youth groups today are only focusing on the relationship and issues, and not on the intellect on why Christianity is true. Hence over the last couple of decades many Christians cannot answer some of the basic questions about what Christianity is all about and why it is true. 

In 2005 there was a seminal work by Christian Smith and Melissa Lundquist Denton entitled Soul Searching: The Religious and Spiritual Lives of American Teenagers.  The main finding in this work was that that American teenagers are incredibly inarticulate about their religious beliefs, and most are virtually unable to offer any serious theological understanding.

Excluding the mind from the Christian life of worship is never a good thing. With a high percentage of Christians not embracing a biblical worldview, in light of the social and moral climate in America, the body of Christ is going to have a difficult time with another ideological paradigm shift looming on the horizon. Jesus tells us, in the Great Commandment to "love the Lord your God with all your heart, and all your soul and all your mind. . ." and yet only two thirds of that commandment are in fellowship with God. The final third, dealing with the Christian mind appears to be absent in many areas of the church.

Over the years Rob has had the opportunity to teach on subjects falling under the huge umbrella of Christian apologetics.  Whenever those opportunities have arisen, he has been told that the church they attend has no interest in apologetics.  Others have asked, why subjects like what they have learned are not taught in the churches. It is because of anti-intellectualism in the discipleship of the churches and coming from the pulpits. The fear of being too deep on the part of many pastors is selling short the people in the pews who are wanting to think deeply about their faith.  

Christian thinker and writer, Charles Malik once said, “I must be frank with you: the greatest danger confronting American evangelical Christianity is the danger of anti-intellectualism. The mind in its greatest and deepest reaches is not cared for enough.” On The Let's Get Real Podcast with Rob Lundberg, Rob presents Five Theses on Anti-intellectualism in the church that should have all of us evaluating whether or not the mind is invited into our worship.

What do Americans think about Jesus Christ, the Bible, truth and ethics? A couple of weeks ago, Ligonier Ministries conducted their biennial survey called The State of Theology 2020. The results of this year's survey reveals the widespread confusion in the United States about the teachings found in the Bible.  While the American population in general appears to be drifting away from accepting the truth of the Christian faith, the growing imminent health and social concerns in these days may be partly responsible for leading some to reconsider their views.
