In this podcast episode, I am joined by the Founder of Oh My Word, Kate O’Mealley.

She is a Copywriter, Word Nerd and Small Business Mentor.

In the beginning, she juggled her small business with working full-time in big business – but had a sneaky feeling corporate life wasn’t for her.

After 15 years working in corporate communications, she’s written about many things from superannuation to recycling pizza boxes. She’s also been a ghostwriter for CEOs and AFL footballers, editor and feature writer for lifestyle magazines.

These days, she puts her wordy skills and business experience to good use working with a range of small and medium businesses, startups, not for profits and sole traders.

She helps clients to communicate better and plan for success – to get the results they really want and see their business flourish and grow.

In this podcast episode, I'm joined by Fyona Matters from PipeWolf Media.

Fyona, along with her husband Dave, are the founders and directors of PipeWolf Media - a film and audio production company based in Wollongong NSW.

Fyona was exposed to small-business life early on, spending most of her childhood witnessing her parents run a general store and then start their own publishing business. In seeing their business grow from an idea to a successful company, Fyona gained a unique education and a rare insight that has steered her to build PipeWolf Media.

Fyona has a background in coordination, marketing and media directing, which has come in handy since starting PipeWolf Media in 2017. Fyona and Dave have faced the challenges of starting a business from scratch, transitioned from sole traders to a company and expanded their team. 

She is passionate about her two cats (Panda and Fox), talking about mental health, staying home and shopping online and all the adventures running a business brings.

In this episode, I’m joined by Savvy Sally. We recorded this in 2020 and just had to include it as a #thursdaythrowback favourite. 

Sally’s business journey has been far from a straight line. First, she studied law and sociology and Uni. Then fell into a career in financial planning which meant an additional 8 years of study while working full time.

After 15 years in that career, having two babies meant she needed a new direction.

So in 2016 she co-founded an online business called South Coast Kids. This is where she realised how much she loved social media and marketing, and that it’s what she should have done from the beginning.

A business award, 13,000 followers and 18 months later, Sally decided to follow her true passion and started Savvy Sally, a social media and digital marketing business.
