Welcome back! On this episode I speak with Korina Emmerich and Liana Shewey, The founders of New York City’s Relative Arts. Relative arts is a Brick and mortar store located in the East Village. With over 50 artists and designers to choose from, The store is THE go-to for Indigenous made goods. Relative arts is so much more than a store. It is beautiful example of a Peer-run community space. Korina and Liana convert their showroom to accommodate viewing parties, musical performances, poetry readings and so much more. They are Pillars in our NYC Community.  These deadly aunties are fascinating and fun to talk to. We just vibed and chatted for hours lol. So this episode will be in 2 parts! This episode is perfect for the budding filmmaker or fashion designer. Not only are Razelle and Jontay Roomates, they are also incredibly talented! They followed their dreams and New York City welcomed them with open arms. Razelle was urged to apply to NYU Tisch school of film, and not only was she accepted, she was given a full ride scholarship. Jontay was approached by Parsons school of design after seeing his BFA collection and was invited into the fashion design program on a full scholarship as well! I wasn’t playing when I said they were talented! They are blessed and highly favored by the ancestors!

On this weeks show, we are giving you an all Indigenous Hairstylist episode! I needed to have a good ol' Kiki and if it's one thang a hairstylist can do is KIKI! My guests this week are two hairstylists. Chad Taber is a behind the chair master hair colorist and a Twin!  Deyah Cassadore has been my assistant on set for so long she doesn't even assist anymore. We discuss how we first got interested in hair, Community, and throw a little shade along the way!

On this weeks Episode, I speak to a fellow Wahzha’z Yatika Starr Fields. Yatika was in New York for the opening of his solo Exhibition, “Home as it Was” at Garth Greenan Gallery. The show features large scale shields, that are constructed out of tent and Tarp materials. His shields evoked a feeling of resilience and necessity. They were stunning to see in person. I highly recommend seeing Yatika’s Shields.  Home as it Was is on view at Garth Greenan Gallery till April 12th. Ha.We Relatives! Welcome to the inaugural episode of Let's Have a Powwow Podcast! When I was creating this show I knew Immediately that I wanted Josie and Jayden as my first guests! They are best friends who create beautiful things together. I needed their energy with me as I figured out what the hell I was doing. Let's Have a Powwow is centered around the Urban Indigenous experience in NYC. We will talk about guests Homelands and How and Why they came to the big city. We will also cover culture and fashion as it is a big part of my life. Being a fat, brown woman working in Fashion for over 20 years I've heard it all! Let's Have a Powwow is inspired by those cringe moments we've had in professional settings where someone has suggested "having a powwow" to discuss work stuff. We are reclaiming the word! So join in and enjoy indigenous excellence. Don't worry, everyone is invited, we will also be talking to some of my favorite Allies!
