The Vietnam war holds a special place in my heart, and my compassion is full for those who served in that dreadful war; that could have been avoided. Oliver Stone pours his heart into this movie, having served 2 years in the war himself; he made this movie for his own sanity. This movie is brutal to watch at times, and it made it so on purpose. He is showing us the brutality of that war, and how inhumane it became for everyone involved. How did those veterans fit back into society afterwards? I'm not sure they ever did. I sincerely thank anyone who served in this war.

Other comedians who were set to star in this role, would not have worked nearly as well as Steve Carell did. This bone chilling role for Robin Williams solidified him as way more than just a comedian. He had done dramatic roles prior to this, but this is by far the most complex and dynamic character that he got to play. It's hard to find the message of the movie until the very final scene; and then it all clicks into perspective. A film about either continuing on, or stopping a trauma cycle.

The best sports movie, in my humblest of opinionates. I'm not an expert on sports related films, but this is by far the most emotionally driven; and emotionally moving films of it's genre. I think it's a drama at its core, layered with masterful screenwriting; carried by the high caliber acting performances. This review was a must!
