There are many different models of higher education. Within the Christian education realm, the large central university model has seemed to dominate the landscape. Though many colleges have adopted a serious online presence, few conservative Christian colleges have been able to break through that barrier and become known for that model of learning. Veritas Baptist College, formerly Virginia Baptist College, has ramped up it’s online presence specifically to allow its students to remain in local church ministry while they are working on their degree program. This intentionality is what sets them apart and is why we have Pastor Kurt Skelly as our guest today.

As pastors, missionaries, and ministry leaders, there is a peace in knowing that you are right where God wants you to be. However, sometimes God begins to shift the waters and He makes it clear that it is time to move on. Sometimes there are circumstances that seem to push us onward, but other times it is just the prompting of the Lord that He has something else in store. It is these times of transition that truly test our faith in God’s guiding hand. That’s our topic on today’s episode. Trusting God when he changes our ministry direction.

The purpose of this episode is to better understand the dynamic that occurs between missionaries and pastors that often creates tension on both sides. As a pastor, I have become much more aware of the relationship tension that often exists between a church and a missionary that is seeking support.

The reality is this..when you are in any type of leadership, decision you make and directions you go will always be questioned in some way, shape or form. Helpful criticism, or constructive criticism, can help sharpen you and actually help you develop your leadership skills and focus. However, sometimes the criticism is harsh and biting. You know you are right…you know they are wrong. What do you do? How do you respond.

What are some of the reasons why cultural studies are important for the longterm spread of the gospel? How does ignoring cultural differences create long lasting hinderances for the missionary and his ministry?

There are some common struggles that pastors, church planters, and missionaries have that can't be swept under the carpet...they must be addressed! In this episode, Tate Throndson and I talk about these struggles and how to depend on the Lord for the victory!!
