  • Let's Talk with Dr Courtney Munro | Senior Research Officer + Project Coordinator LongSTEPPP Study | Teens with Endometriosis, Period and Pelvic Pain

    Hey gorgeous and welcome back for another episode of LTP!

    Today's episode is with Dr Courtney Munro, Senior Research Officer and Project Coordinator of the LongSTEPPP Study. Courtney undertook her PhD at the Royal Children's Hospital in relation to cystic fibrosis. Courtney's work currently is focused on teens living with endometriosis and pelvic pain, through the LongSTEPP Study, an MRFF funded Australia wide research project, the Longitudinal Study of Teens with Endometriosis, Period and Pelvic Pain, which is recruiting 10 - 18 year olds and following them for five years. 

    We chat on: 

    • Why Courtney got into research and her day to day as a researcher
    • Courtney's thoughts on why teens are still being dismissed when it comes to pelvic pain and the barriers they face
    • What the research is telling us about pelvic pain, endometriosis and teens

Using her own lived experience living with endometriosis, Milli founded Endo Articles, a charity for young people living with endometriosis in 2023, whilst also pursuing an LLB at UNSW. Milli is committed to impacting the experience of young Australians with endometriosis through community and connection, firmly believing that no young person should go through the disease alone. She is a strong advocate for much needed reform in this area.

    Today's episode is with Dr Jessica Theron. Jessica is a GP registrar and a passionate advocate for people with chronic pelvic pain. She completed two years of working in Obstetrtics & Gynaecology and a post-graduate diploma in Obstetrics & Medical Gynaecology before moving to general practice. 

    She's also the founder of the Ella app, an educational 6-week pain programme for people with chronic pelvic pain. The Ella App is based on published research and teaches people how to address pain system hypersensitivity and nervous system dysregulation which are important drivers of chronic pelvic pain. They're currently doing their beta trial in Australia and New Zealand which you can find out more on here.

    She's also created a community on social media for holistic, evidenced based information about chronic pelvic pain and endometriosis and you can find her @the.pelvichealth.doc on both TikTok and instagram.
