I won’t mince words here. If you have children, especially white children, and you want this genocidal madness to end: tell them the truth. Encourage them to call their Senators and representative in Congress. The people enabling this illegal war are shameless when it comes to the peer review of the adult constituents who pay their salaries. But maybe, just maybe, they’ll listen to your kids.

I see people frustrated, and I am too. You want the protest to escalate into something meaningful that shuts this s**t down. Some of you are also afraid. So am I. But do not be gaslit into believing we aren’t a 250-year-old democracy. We have every right, no matter what anyone says, to exercise our constitutional rights— and that includes proudly and openly acing as a democracy defender.

If you want this to end, we need rolling general strike, exceptionally organized communities to hold that strike, and a transition plan with teeth. If you want to achieve that end, you’re going to have to get out into your actual neighborhoods, talk to people you don’t know, collaborate without ego, and form a nonviolent civilian defense plan which will allow us to hold a general strike and prevent our neighbors from being abducted and trafficked to concentration camps.

This isn’t immigration enforcement. This isn’t how government is supposed to work. This is fascism. And if we don’t uproot it now, our children and grandchildren will be subjected to the cruelty of Nazis, child rapists, and religious extremists.

What is happening right now will not go away with a Midterm election, and if we don’t develop a plan, with strategy and teeth, to defend our democracy, we may not get another chance.

Stop asking for permission to organize.

Stop asking when someone is going to do something.

Career politicians will not, and cannot, save us from this mess.

We the People are the last goddamn guardrail of democracy, and we need to act like it.

Here’s how to get acting. You can’t say you don’t have a plan now. Here’s a damn plan. Go take it into your neighborhoods and make it better.

Donald John Trump is not an American President. When we tell the story of him as a president, we mischaracterize the choices coming out of the Executive Branch as “incompetence” and “recklessness.” This sane-washes his actions and gives him the cover he needs to continue to commit crimes.

To characterize Trump in this way encourages people to see him as a failing politician who will be wrecked during midterms— when, in truth, he’s a dying mobster, with no affinity or loyalty to this country, who is paying off his debts.

He is, first and foremost, a Russian asset, and he is (through misdirection) waging a proxy war on the people of the United States, the US military, and all federal US agencies— with the express intent of collapsing the United States as we know it.

This, in turn, allows him to pay off the backers who ensured he’d ascend to the presidency in 2024: the white South African techno-fascists (and JD Vance), who are gobbling up public resources like vultures, readying themselves for a time when US currency and democracy have collapsed so that they can take a sledgehammer to our country and remodel it into a network of “freedom cities” (another word for “the company store”).

Trump is also paying off debts to the white nationalist militias who stormed the Capitol on January 6th (the muscle of the techno-fascists), who now make more money and have more power than any federal agency in the United States— while also existing above the law to the extent that they can murder people in this country, citizen or not, with impunity. These same men are working in concentration camps, where they are sexually assaulting women and children, denying people medical care, and taking bets on which of our imprisoned neighbors will commit suicide next.

Finally, he owes a debt to the Heritage Foundation and Federalist Society, both fronts for the homegrown white Christian nationalists who want to wage a “holy war” to bring about the “end times,” while subjecting women, queer people, trans people, disabled people, and Black and brown people to inhumane repression, criminalization, sexual violence, and domestic terror.

There’s a reason each of these techno-fascists have islands and bunkers to insulate themselves from this matryoshka doll of fuckery, in which you and I, and everyone we love, are directly in the crosshairs.

The situation we are in is frightening, infuriating, and crazy-making. But we are not without agency. The answer to the poly-crises we must confront is simple (but not easy): we must build parallel systems of support and give to each other everything this treasonous orange carcass and his Russian-backed, child-raping, billionaire cabal have stolen from us.

It is very important that we begin this work now, because, where there are power vacuums, violence enters. We cannot allow ourselves to be caught in a crisis without a hyper-local, neighborhood-level response. If we aren’t able to organize ourselves, chaos will ensue (as designed), and that (orchestrated) disorder will be used as pretext for further repression (flock cameras, drone surveillance, digital ID, political prisoners, theft of our constitutional rights, invasions of our neighbors’ sovereignty, and so forth).

We must test ourselves in this moment by relearning what it means to be a patriot and what it means to be an engaged neighbor.

Capitalism, a literal invention from the bowels of chattel slavery, has kept many of us atomized, isolated, and steeped in learned helplessness. If we want to prevail, we must move around and outside the white supremacist, settler-colonial systems that have been designed (since the invasion of Turtle Island) to keep us chained to vulture capitalists— who have only ever gotten ahead through murder, theft, threats, fraud, and enslavement.

a note on midterm elections

When I say Midterm elections won’t save us, I am not saying “don’t vote.” PLEASE DO VOTE. It’s still important for us to see and feel the election tampering and invalidation, with our own eyes, so that we stop pretending this can all be fixed through institutional means.

These fascist f***s are wrecking the very institutions that once provided us a means for remedy. We are going to have to organize around and outside the systems we’ve relied on for decades (if not centuries), and it is important for that work to start now, because it is imperative that we have a response to any electoral skullduggery.

When I talk about the imperative for a response to any attempt to invalidate the people’s vote, I don’t mean another goddamn No Kings protest. Look. I’m just as inspired to see all of our numbers you are, but it is simply not enough to show up with signs.

We need to take those impressive numbers and move into formation— in our neighborhoods— to organize parallel systems of support that prevent these child-raping treasonous a******s from putting their boots further on our necks.

Symbolic protests are important, up to a point. But when you don’t take those numbers and give people something concrete to DO to move the socio-political dial, you’re just wasting everyone’s time. Also, these concentrated rallies make democracy-protectors soft target during a time in which— thanks to these treasonous fascists and their illegal war— retaliatory terror attacks are on the rise in the US.

Right now, we don’t need a concentrated show of numbers. We already know we have millions on the side of democracy. That’s excellent news, but these are not democracy times, where one can expect to march the streets every other month and assume that people who are not abiding by Democracy’s script will somehow, inexplicably, bend to our will.

We need to disperse our numbers into hyper-local formation and to do the necessary work to keep each other and the flame of our democracy alive.

This is speculative nonfiction— a working theory of the many data points at play in this horrific global moment.

I’m no Hercule Poirot. He had a fancier mustache and was solving riddles during a different world war. I’m just a community college teacher and organizer, who reads a whole lot. All the same, I speculate there are two coups and one very big con at play here. Picture this:

A global syndicate of techno-fascists pair up with white Christian nationalists and do so using Donald Trump as a puppet. Trump is the outer layer of a matryoshka doll— a literal Russian doll, hiding the others. (How fitting, really.) Anyhow, what he gets out of this mess is good healthcare and staying out of prison for human rights violations while he’s dying. Trump’s not running s**t, but they’re using his chaos to sow confusion.

Steven Miller and Russ Vought are working hand in glove.

Steven’s job is to scare the public into submission by targeting vulnerable groups for death. Vought, a Christian Dominionist, is stealing the power of the purse from Congress to defund democracy and kill the institutions propping them up. Together, they overpay white Christian nationalists to be the muscle. These grunts think their “take” in all this is re-establishing white male supremacy.

What the grunts may actually be doing is helping billionaires wage wars for the resources they need to build spaceships to escape a dying planet. I suspect those data centers aren’t for us; they’re for a “future” you and I won’t see.

Why do I speculate this is the case?

Elon and Besoz are testing rockets for a reason, and you don’t just try to go to space for fun on a dying planet. If Elon et al. were sane people, they’d just f**k off to a bunker and let people die.

That is the sane rich people thing to do: accept reality and let the poor die first.

But the vulture class believes they are immortal.

Listen to them: they speak of this.

They’re escalating tech and ecological collapse for a reason. They’re destroying this ecosystem irreparably for a reason. They think life on the planet is unviable, that we are headed for a mass extinction event (which we are) and that he’d rather die trying to go to space than have to die with common people on the planet.

The vulture class is trying to escape a death sentence, and they’re blowing through the Earth’s last resources so that he can use them to get to space.

The fake-AI you’ve been playing with is, essentially, spyware, now conveniently installed on your computers and your smartphones.

But! For techno-fascists to pull this all off, they need people to keep working in service of capitalism (in service of them)— not because capitalism is a better model but because it keeps you in trauma, too tired to fight back.

Again, just speculative nonfiction.

The answer here isn’t elections alone. By all means, please, do vote. But I suspect they know they won’t win, just as much as you know they’ll cheat. I suggest you partake in voting anyhow as a thought exercise. But when the balance of power doesn’t really change, as least you’ll have the last Lucy and the football moment.

I suspect, if they cannot cheat, they intend to start a World War, knowing it’ll result in counter attacks on American soil, allowing the United States to attempt to declare martial law. America First means: billionaires first, and everyone else last.

Again, I’m no journalist. I’m just a person with eyes and ears, developing a working theory of what may be going on, behind the two coups in a trench coat.

If I were in the writer’s room of the worst version of How to Get Away with Global Mass Murder, this’d be it: lie to its people, turn them against each other, keep them in trauma, rig political systems to gain access to levers of power by making unusual alliances, kill democracy, systematically abandon its people, leaving them to die, start genocidal wars for resources, whilst the world’s richest s**t-bags create starships for the world’s most depraved people to hang out in bunkers, draining our water, while the tap dries for us, then yeet from this planet when they have the appropriate tech.

That is, I speculate, an estimate of how all this bat-s**t antisocial behavior fits together: global techno-fascist parasites are playing “The Scorpion and the Frog” with the white Christian nationalists: using them as the muscle to achieve their own ends. I don’t think many of them realize they’re disposable— and that climate collapse is real.

If you’re not in the ketamine billionaire class, or among the cast of entertainers and concubines, you’re not gonna be invited onto the space yachts. We’re not even human to them; they see us as resources, a useful idiots— “non-player characters.”

That’s my terrible, no-good, speculative nonfiction.

But I also read Octavia Butler. She’s smarter.

I think the most rational thing to do in order to stop these people is to stop working for them. Stop working for a US government that is trying to kill you and for a job that has demonstrated it will dispose of you, right up until the world burns.

Trust that the oligarch class has a ticket on the Ketamine Kid’s rocket. I suspect they’re acting out their own version of Don’t Look Up.

Here’s what I do know, though: Regardless of the layers of nonsense going on, we need to build parallel systems of support, not just to hold a General Strike but to stop working for them altogether and start working for each other.

Capitalism is not the only form of trade.

These people are killing us for power and profit, and several parasitic maniac men appear to be further draining the world’s resources to leave the planet entirely.

It is, to my mind, the only way to make sense of this: to believe them for who they’re showing themselves to be and to listen to the words coming out of their mouths.

I recommend we stop working for them and learn to collaborate with each other— not just to starve them of the participation they need to pull this off but to be able to work together, on a hyper-local, to engage in a swift global slow-down. Because capitalism has shown us, on loop, it will work people til they die, and, speculatively, this appears to be racialized capitalism’s last act: the parasitic rich screwing us over one last time.

But it doesn’t mean we have to cooperate.

Are we headed toward poly-crises? Yes. But the people who learn to collaborate better are the ones who prevail. As I leave you with this theory of techno-fascist, white Christian nationalist power, I think it’s worth mentioning one of the finest quotes from the film Smoke Signals:

“I keep thinkin’— I wish we was this organized when Columbus landed.”

Neighbor, I believe we are here again.

Columbus, the villain, vandal, rapist, and thief has landed once more. Only this time, the are trying to colonize this planet, in order to strip it of its resources and leave.

Here’s what’s not speculative: it is up to us to organize and build parallel systems of support for what comes next. There’s a reason the techno-fascists hid the climate data and fired the climate scientists. If they didn’t, you’d eventually hear the alarm bells and ask: “Why are we still working for them when they want to kill us?”

Eventually, you’d use all your time, talents, and resources to help each other survive.

I’ve been working on a loose map for how to proliferate the helpers we need, at scale. It’s a rough theory of how we can learn to move together to face whatever absolute batshit genocidal nonsense these people are playing at.

The answer, as ever, is to stop cooperating with them and start cooperating with each other.

I would delight in being alarmist, but I actually listen to Elon Musk and Peter Thiel. They are crazy people, unchecked by the peer review of other people. They and their techno-fascist shitheads would absolutely kill us all to try and get out of dodge.

And I don’t personally think the Epstein files will bring them down.

I think stopping working for them and abandoning the economic and political system designed to keep them in power— and, instead, collaborating on a new system, which can respond to the moment we face, cooperatively— is the way out.

Trust me when I tell you that I didn’t want to write this. The s**t I speculate these people are doing is unspeakably nuts. “Trump derangement syndrome” is an accusation in a mirror. They are, indeed this homicidally crazy that they would blow through the world’s resources to “save themselves.”

Who wants to suggest an unspeakable and catastrophic plan might be in play? Who wants to suggest the world as we knew it is about to end, like it or not, because racist rich white guys thieve until last, and have pushed us into climate collapse? Who wants to suggest that one way of working with each other to stop them from killing an already dying planet and its people?

Surely not me. But here I am writing it down, knowing full well that this speculative nonfiction may be the equivalent of telling the first sailors to keep sailing into the horizon when the map-makers were convinced they’d fall off the edge of the world.

My larger point here is this: If we’re heading into climate collapse, why in the fresh hell are we then listening to the very leaders whose intention is to kill us and hasten the end times (for us and the planet)? What if, instead, we didn’t deny what we are facing, unglued ourselves from our screens, and worked together to try and survive “the end of the world” as we previously knew it?

The truth is: my speculative nonfiction is immaterial. We know enough of the score to know we must move in a radically different way, starting now.

Luckily, when it comes to developing plans for what comes next, I’m nowhere near the the first person to suggest these collaboration.

For example, adrienne maree brown has already begun working, from the blueprint and mentorship of elder Grace Lee Boggs and others, to teach how we slow down and collaborate with each together.

My own solution-oriented writing dovetails theirs.

If we are to succeed in bringing down a dictatorship and this techno-fascist theft of resources, how are we to build and spread it? What is the human engineering, the collaborative jazz music, that helps us move together— from the smallest unit of the postal code to the largest unit of a nation?

These are these questions I explore in a theory of people-power called The Daisy Chain. I suggest you download it and share it offline, in your neighborhoods.

I’m not here to be seen or to get rich on Substack. I don’t want your money. Money is also, to me, immaterial. It’s a fiction— climate collapse isn’t. I’m here to persuade you to leave your screens and get into your communities, with a quickness, because these wrongs will not be righted, and these poly-crises will not be solved, by locking up a handful of billionaire criminals.

If they’re hacking our country apart and trying to trap us in the system as they do it— let’s move around the system and work together to pull the emergency brake. Let’s redirect our efforts toward each other, and try to soberly confront what comes next.

Human beings were wired to collaborate. It’s how we innovate. It’s how we survive. This moment, and our ancestors, are screaming at us to adapt or die.

coda: why we must practice our speculative future now

Whether my speculative nonfiction is correct on all points is immaterial: the answer out of this is the same either way: we must work together.

For that reason, I very much hope I can persuade you to step into our speculative future, where we aren’t hunted by rich b******s and their clueless goons.

There’s another story in the wings. It’s waiting for you to act on it.

That work begins in your neighborhood, at the pre-electoral level, because that’s where power actually lives (which is why they want you locked on screens).

We already have all the information we need to know the score: rich a******s are trying to cull the population.

Don’t get trapped in the question. Shape a solution with your neighbors.

I don’t have (or want to have) all the answers. I’m just suggesting we take the beaten path off this highway to hell and figure it out as we go, together. Toward that end, I’m attaching an imperfect map for how we might move together differently.

Take it. Download it. Play with it with your neighbors. Tailor it to your community.

We’re the ones who have power. Power has always flowed through us. Let’s take it back, at long last, from the colonizers.

We matter. This timeline is b******t. And, whatever foul play is afoot here, we do not have to live and die like this.

The message that I am going to share is probably not going to be comforting, but I still think that it is worth saying because the math isn’t mathing.

One of the first things that this regime did is it got rid of all the climate scientists, and I’m going to tell you why, because they talked about it at Davos. But because the American media has us so propagandized about climate change, they can hide that from us.

There’s a reason, too, why all FEMA money is being diverted to hunting down your immigrant neighbors and Black and brown neighbors.

I’ll tell you why: the climate science says that we have about 10 years, a decade, to live before climate collapse in which billions, at least six billion of people will die across the world.

And these child-raping, techno-fascists elites, who have the largest global carbon footprint in the world and largest cruelty footprint in the world got together and said:

You know what we’re going to do?

We’re going to get rid of the climate scientists.

We are going to get rid of the vaccines.

We are going to get rid of food assistance.

We are going to get rid of FEMA.

We are going to rip vets off of their disability.

We are going to take money away from our elders.

We are going to hunt people that we don’t want to see survive and put them in concentration camps.

And what we’re going to do is just kill the people that we want to kill so that we have to not share the world with these other people.

They’re absolutely trying to cull the population so that they do not have to share resources with the rest of us.

And meanwhile, you have Nazis like Nick Fuentes, who knows that all this s**t is going on. You know, because he expects to survive this purge. And he’s bragging about a future in which women can be put into gulags.

And right now, in the Dilley Detention Center, there is something called a Blue Butterfly Zone, where they are keeping teenage girls under the age of 18 in a room away from everyone else, not letting congressional oversight or anybody see them.

I wonder why that is.

I wonder why in a concentration camp, ICE would keep teenage girls to themselves and not let anyone get to them.

And this is what I have to say, you know, if Nick Fuentes can talk about jailing and raping people. And if techno-fascists and Christo-fascists can talk about how trans people shouldn’t be able to live… Boy, do they get to exercise their First Amendment.

But I want to ask you, if we all have 10 years of viable life to live on this planet, just out of curiosity: what you would do in that moment?

Because you’re doing it right now.

If I were you, I would be striking because it is the only nonviolent thing that we can do is to completely stop working. And I think that we need to engage in a global slowdown, precisely to slow climate change as we did during COVID.

In end, our stopping working, even if it collapses the economy, does not f*****g matter. The planet is collapsing, and this economic system is the on that killed it.

And we do have a plan to take care of each other, during collapse. The question is whether we have the courage to enact it— in defiance of our techno-fascist overlords.

We have less than a decade of livable life here, and the child-raping, racist f*****g techno-fascists have decided that their solution to that is to kill as many of us as possible. They very f*****g blatant about that.

You’ve got Sam Altman who is draining out water and energy, while the world dies, saying:

One of the things that is always unfair in this comparison is people talk about how much energy it takes to train an AI model, relative to how much it costs a human to do one inference query. But it also takes a lot of energy to train a human. It takes like 20 years of life, and all of the food you eat during that time, before you get smart.

They’re absolutely wanting this mass extinction, and they are planning for a mass extinction event. Through AI, they are sourcing all of people’s collective intelligence, the very people who have had the creativity and the ingenuity from the beginning to make this world a livable place. Those f*****g fascist child raping white men are then stealing these ideas from us, in their last act of theft— then driving us into poverty, disease, violence, and despair so that they can exterminate us and, atop the rubble of our bones, live on a planet with dwindling resources.

And I wonder, when there are so many more of us than there are of them, why are we so afraid?

And to my mind, we can deal with this right now by confronting that science, by saying:

Oh, we’ve got a decade. Why the f**k would we work? Why the f**k would we be working right now for the very elites who trashed this planet and are hunting us down and raping our kids?

What would you do if you knew you had 10 years left? Would it be this?

Because they’re enacting a purge on all the vulnerable groups while joking about raping people in gulags and enacting it with Blue Butterfly Zones in concentration camps.

So my my question to you is what the f**k are we doing here?

Are you just gonna sit there? You’re gonna go on to work, when we could prepare to strike?

The planet is f*****g dying. They know that; they take that really seriously. AI is here to replace us when they can’t steal from us anymore. AI is also here to surveil us so that they can, eventually, crush us before we rise up. The surveillance state hasn’t, yet, consolidated power.

So my question to you is, why the f**k are you going along with it?

The very people who created an ecological collapse and systemically raped and trafficked kids are now human trafficking in the United States for profit.

They are crashing an entire goddamn economy so that in the last years, while they’re ruling over the remaining people who are not literally enslaved in camps, vulture capitalists can make sure that they never rise up.

And I’m just wondering: wouldn’t it be a good idea, if we don’t want to get out pitchforks, if we don’t roll out the guillotines, to just f*****g stop work— and stop feeding into and appealing to this b******t system that is literally trying to kill us?

To reiterate: I advocate for strategic nonviolent resistance. And I stick to that when it comes to organizing people out of this mess, for good reason:

At the same time, I understand there are a lot of philosophies on what to do with child rapists. Some people will say, “You put them on trial and they go through the process and they face justice.”

No, they don’t.

Child rapists sometimes get maybe two to five years. Many never face time at all. At the same time, we have fascists doubling down on forced child marriages and taking away reproductive rights. So no, this “justice” is not enough.

Hear me when I say that I absolutely do believe in the death penalty for child rapists.

They shouldn’t just be in prison. Their heads should be on pikes.

And if I have free speech in this failing f*****g country, I should be able to say that if Nick Fuentes gets to say that men should be able to rape women and kids and put them in gulags. Right?

I should be able to express my views if techno-fascists are stripping us of rights at home while saying: “Oh, we don’t need to respect your sovereignty anymore.”

I think I should get to say as a childhood sexual assault survivor, that the men who rape kids should be put to death. Because a thing to know about people who sexually abuse children is that this is never a one-off. Literally never. They continue to rape kids until they are stopped.

Once more with feeling: These f*****g people are trying to kill us. And we are just supposed to keep going to work?

These child rapists, are hunting down our neighbors in the streets and putting them in concentration camps, where they’re creating Blue Butterfly Zones for teenage girls under 18, where no else is allowed to get to them. Mark my words: they are being raped by guards at the camp— if not already trafficked. The Trump regime trafficked kids during his first stint in the Oval Office; those kids were never found again, and we see what the Trumpstein class does with children.

I’m telling you this: Eventually, they’re hoping to instigate a huge violent response. They are trying to do every last thing to push us into the f*****g streets with violence. And as a childhood sexual assault survivor, I f*****g feel it. (Because, again, I really do believe in the death penalty for child rape.)

I want to slap the f*****g borderline smile off of JD Vance’s face when he says that Democrats are protecting “sex offenders.” He’s not talking about child rapists. He’s talking about “gender extremists,” which is their parlance for trans people and anyone trying to help trans people live with dignity. He is doubling down on scapegoating, as the normalization and sensationalization of child-rape goes mainstream. F**k you, JD Vance.

You prop up child rapists and cozy up with white nationalists who are trying to cull the population. You align yourself with people whose response to the ecological collapse they cause is to enact the curated deaths of billions of people, because they know it will slow down warming on this planet in such a way that they can continue to hoard our resources and live the depraved lifestyles that they want.

What would you do if you knew you had f*****g 10 years left of your livable life?Because that’s where we’re at in the planet. Do you want the rest of your life, your livable life, before complete ecological collapse, to be running in fear of fascists?

Because we can do this the easy way or the hard way. The hard way is where we allow ourselves to be manipulated and fight on their ground. Or the easy way is we f*****g stop working.

I don’t even know why we’re working right now.

Money is a f*****g fiction, but climate science is not.

That’s all I’ve got.
