In this episode, I’m exploring an idea I’ve been playing with lately, something I call mindful mediocrity.
I reflect on how our resistance to being “average,” inadequate, or unskilled can quietly restrict our lives, and how holding ourselves to one universal standard of excellence may interfere with enjoyment, curiosity, expression, and sustainability.
This is a stream-of-consciousness reflection on:
- Standards, meaning-making, and self-leadership
- Perfectionism and energy allocation
- Subjectivity, performance, and identity
- The freedom that can come from letting different activities carry different expectations
This isn’t about lowering standards across the board, and it’s not about dismissing growth or mastery.
It’s an exploration of context, discernment, and flexibility; and how being intentional with our standards can support a more fulfilling way of living.
As always, I’m simply offering reflections on an element of self-leadership that may support you.
You’re invited to choose what serves you.
Sometimes scattered. Always honest. Hopefully helpful.
An ongoing exploration of elements related to self-leadership.
