Lacy DeGeorgio never imagined she'd have to be responsible for anyone but herself. She's strong, stubborn, and fiercely independent. She needs no one. She's a woman determined to do things her way, on her own. But when a freak boating accident takes her sister Hannah's life, Lacy finds herself not only back in her hometown of Lake George, New York, but in a custody battle for her 11-year-old nephew, Andy.
Just when things couldn't get any worse, pesky State Trooper Frank Harmon starts showing up, tearing down all her defenses, making her want things she's never wanted before. She'll trust him with her nephew, but can she trust him with her heart? New York State Trooper Frank Harmon is a man of honor and duty. He's always done things by the book, believing the law always works in favor of those who uphold it.
Until the day he took a domestic disturbance call at the DeGeorgio trailer, and even though he knew something bad was about to happen, he had to walk away. Two days later, he pulled Hannah DeGeorgio's body from the icy cold waters of Lake George, changing his life forever. He sets out to make sure Hannah's killer is brought to justice and in the process makes a home for a family he thought he never wanted.
Members Reviews:
Fell a little short in romance
There were a few things that are commendable to how the author was able to effectively write the story. Though I can't deny that there also a few things that should have been given more attention with more details.
Things that I liked most:
1. Lacey's determination in keeping her nephew no matter how hard it is for her.
2. How Lacey disciplines her nephew without making him feel she is antagonizing him.
3. How Lacey fights off her attraction in Frank because it will have an effect to her custody battle of her nephew; Even her decision to marry Frank to help in the custody battle has proved she is a selfless person and is willing to sacrifice everything including her happiness
Things that the author may have improve on:
1. Frank may have been driven by his guilt to offer a marriage, but while reading, it may have sounded a little selfish on his part to save himself from the guilt and offer marriage to whom he is strongly attracted to in the first place. However, when asked if she has feelings for her, he falls short of admitting it or because he is not in love after all.
2. The reason for the death of Lacey's sister sounded a little shallow to warrant such circumstances. There were a lot of characters involved but the Police, how smart they may have been sounded too confuse to even know where to begin.
3. The love story or lack thereof, fell short to even call it a romantic book. I did not become a fan of Frank in the process as well due to lack of effort on his part to sweep Lacey off her feet aside from the promise of a marriage for convenience. Not too romantic at all.
Overall, the book is still recommended. The reader will still have the option anyway to stop anytime if the book starts to feel uninteresting and the suspense and action becomes predictable.
Loved it
I loved Dark Water and thought that as far as suspense goes it is superior to In Two Weeks. It would have been nice to know when the sequel was taking place in relation to In Two Weeks at the beginning of the book rather than in the middle but it did not detract from the story.
