This week on The Library, part 2 of Tim's interview with Chuck D. The legendary artist joins Tim to talk about Public Enemy's newest album, Man Plans God Laughs." Which Track best defines the mission of the album? Chuck D tells Tim:

" Man Plans, God Laughs. No question. That one record came out of left field as a creation. It was planned but also it came out of left field as a creation because the lyrics were on another record and that original track was something else. Gary made a switch and he made some cuts and edits. The record is 2 minutes and 6 seconds. It's the only record I've ever seen, Tim. Trust me, trust me when I tell you this. I've played 28 years on the road, right? I played records like Rebel without a Pause and Bring the Noise, and Can't Truss and Welcome to the Terrordome and even Harder Than you Think. It's the only record that I've seen that's made a mosh out of a crowd with never hearing it before. It's really strange. I think it's the push and pull in the record. My best description of it is like taking fingertips and brushing it over somebody's chest and then yanking their lungs out and then trying to push it back in. But the thing is on top of that, in 2 minutes...”

This week on The Library, Chuck D. joins Tim to talk about Public Enemy's newest album, Man Plans God Laughs." What's the mission of the album? The rhyme animal Chuck D tells Tim:

"I think the mission of the album is not to just present a record, I mean there are a trillion records out there; there's also a past and a catalog and a history that Public Enemy has done but there's some significance in this releasing of this particular record. The state and time is totally different. You're talking about a group that was inducted into the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame two years ago, so this is the first of its kind. What record has come out from a Hip Hop group that actually was already inducted? For the first three inductions, it hasn't happened but Public Enemy has been going on for 28 straight years. Unfortunately we knew that the Beastie Boys would have been able to do it, we want more from Run – DMC and we would love for Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five to come together and do something but I guess we're it. So, here it is. I think being at the age of 55 this summer and Flav 56, we're in rarefied air and there's really no expectations from somebody who I guess has been this high up in age doing something that is contemporary."

On July 14, 2015 Public Enemy will release its 15th album, Man Plans God Laughs. During Chuck D's interview on The Library with Tim EInenkel, Chuck tells Tim why they decided to eliminate the use of the 3rd verse on this album.

We eliminated the 3rd verse....Which I think increasingly as we go in hip-hop the third verse is becoming useless. That's why you see a lot of collabs. The collaborations and remixes are like the NBA. It's like the 3-pointer. To a point, it's like Yes, it's a weapon and then after awhile it becomes a crutch and then after awhile the game just morphs..."

On July 14, 2015 Public Enemy will release its 15th album, Man Plans God Laughs. One record on the album is called "Honky Tonk Rules" which covers the classic song "Honky Tonk Woman’ by the Rolling Stones. Chuck tells Tim why Public Enemy went the "whole 9 yards" to get clearance to use this song.

“I fought for this record because initially when we wanted to clear it, we were totally rejected by our publisher, their publisher....initially we we're rejected because they had a whole other thing in mind; they thought we were going to come across to them, like maybe P-Diddy or somebody and have like 18 different publishers on there. They don't want their records touched. They we're like you take it as it is and you give us our 100 percent. “

Data mining student Eric Malmi recently created Raplyzer, an algorithmic program that analyzes hip-hop lyrics and just may give us the answer who is the best MC. Tim interviews Eric Malmi, this week on The Library.

This week on The Library, Marcus Samuelsson. He's an owner of two restaurants in New York City, a judge on Top Chef and Chopped and has cooked for President Obama and prime ministers. Chef Samuelsson joins Tim Einenkel to talk food, Hip Hop and using them to help explore his cultural experiences.

He tells Tim:

“If you want to explore and learn something, I often start with breaking bread, the food, and the music...If you start at either religion or politics, it gets really heated right away but if you start with the cooks or the musicians, it's away for me to adapt it and process it. “

On March 30th, 2015, R.A. The Rugged Man Official Page performed at New York City's SOBs. During this performance, The Library's Tim Einenkel caught up with the legendary El Da Sensei (one half of the Artifacts). Tim asked El about what fans can expect from XL, an album he did with the great Sadat X, which element is the best representation of hip hop culture and the importance of the live show. El told Tim:

“Always performing on stage is the best. You can be in the studio, in the booth. Doing that stage show is where you sell yourself. You get that person who probably never hear of you before. That's where you get them to buy your records. It's a good way to personal with your fans...When you give your energy to them and you perform for them, they give it back to you.”

I'm letting you know that this is going to be so much more then you're going to expect. The level is here. The bars is up...Y'all going to be shocked. Y'all going to be shocked.”

“The DJ is the most important part of hip hop culture besides the MC. because once we make the records and do all what we do, it's up to the DJ to break the record. If they don't ever play the record, we ain't never being heard. Even on stage, he's like the drummer. If he don't start, we don't go. If you have no DJ, then you have no sound....DJs determine pretty much if you're nice or not...if they're not playing that shit, then it's no go. “

This week on the Library, Tim talks to Descendent, a new independent artist from Newport News, Virginia but currently living in Raleigh, North Carolina. Tim and Descendent discuss a few tracks from his album Road to Greatness: Journey of a Lost Soul and why he has not taken on the persona a lot of new mainstream artists have taken on.

He tells Tim

“Once you tell a lie, you have to keep up with that lie. And that's a full time job if you really think about it. If you keep up that facade of whomever your copying or mimicking on stage or in the music, you're going to have some people think that's really you. I didn't want to live my life like that.
