PETER SMITH

Peter is an accomplished pianist, singer, arranger, and songwriter, and his career has flourished on both coasts. Originally a New Yorker, Peter has lived in Los Angeles since 2005. He is especially in demand as an arranger and musical director for singers, in various musical genres. He is co-creator of “TOO MARVELOUS FOR WORDS: a celebration of Nat “King” Cole.” Peter performs in the show alongside Keith David. Peter is also musical director for Ty Taylor’s project: “The Nouveau Mid Century Romance Songbook,” which debuted at the Wallis in LA. Peter is co-producer, pianist and MD of the album of the same title, which was released worldwide in 2018.

Peter had just started working with Natalie Cole as her primary accompanist (just prior to her passing), and he has been traveling the world as Molly Ringwald’s pianist/MD, and served as co-producer and arranger on her Concord Records release: “Except Sometimes.”  He has played on major stages large and small: Iridium (NYC), Jazz Alley (Seattle), Yoshi’s (SF), Blues Alley (DC), Montreal Jazz festival, Vector Arena (NZ), Melbourne Recital Centre (AUS), and many, many more.

Peter was an associate Music Director for both seasons of THE FOUR on Fox, working directly with contestants and in conjunction with Music Directors Rickey Minor and Adam Blackstone. He was also the associate Musical Director on DUETS, the hit singing competition show on ABC. Peter worked directly with Kelly Clarkson, Jennifer Nettles, Robin Thicke and John Legend, not only accompanying them and their contestants in rehearsal, but collaborating with them on the musical arrangements for the show.

In 2009, Peter released his debut jazz album: HERE IT COMES, which featured a mix of original material and standard repertoire. The musicians on the album are Allen Mezquida, Charles Owens, Trevor Ware, Clayton Cameron, and both Patrice Quinn and Molly Ringwald are featured vocalists. This album was well received, and he followed it up the following year with an ambitious live project: BLUES AT ALVAS.  This recording branched out into some different repertoire (Otis Redding, Van Morrison, Leonard Cohen) as well as familiar standard material and Jazz originals.  This album features most of the same musicians (Allen, Trevor, Clayton, Patrice) and adds Kamasi Washington, Nick Mancini, and Jacques Lesure.  Apart from these two albums (and both Molly Ringwald’s and Mark Arthur Miller’s releases), a sampling of Peter’s discography includes: Laura Harrison’s CD, NOW HERE; Lisa Donna’s and Kristina Pradd’s self-titled releases; GIMME GIMME GIMME (Reinterpreting Black Flag), and Janet LaBelle’s BLOSSOM AND BLUE.

Peter’s composing career is merging with the Industry in Los Angeles, and his compositions can be heard on numerous TV shows (MINDY PROJECT, CSI, BENCHED, HOW TO LIVE WITH YOUR PARENTS, etc) as well as in commercials and in the films HOTEL NOIR, MYTH OF FINGERPRINTS, and BLEACHED. Lisa Salloux was born into an entire family who plays music. She was brought up on classical, blues and bluegrass while playing piano, mandolin, guitar and bass. She’s been writing and performing original tunes since she was a teenager and currently is engaged in a couple of projects in Los Angeles, an all female string band called Sugar In The Gourd, and Killing Cassanova, a ‘swampytonk’ band that Doug is also a member. “Playing bluegrass music is absolutely re-juvenating and re-kindles a spirit that loves to dance on the land.”

Doug Funkhouser is a singer song writer and has played bluegrass banjo and guitar for over forty years. He is currently a member of The Henry Ridge Ramblers and Killing Cassanova. He has developed his own style of progressive and three finger banjo playing based on the work of Earl Scruggs. “You can’t help responding to the honesty of bluegrass, it’s a music that finds its way deep into your soul.”

Netta Skog is a Finnish accordion player known for being the “Rocker” of the accordion world. She started to play accordion when she was only 5 years old and she’s shown both versatility and virtuosity in her career.  American World Champion Cory Pesaturo calls her, the “Badass” of the accordion world.

In 2006 she won the Finnish Golden Accordion competition, a national Finnish competition, and her career began.  In the competition she played the song ”Dead to the World” from a very known Finnish metal band “Nightwish,” which attained much attention around the world. Mostly because of that performance, Battle Metal -band “Turisas” asked her to join the band. Netta was a official member in Turisas in 2007-2011 and got the chance to travel all around the whole world and play for crowds of up to 100,000 people!

In 2013 Netta decided to try her chances as a singer, so she attended to the Finnish Tango-competition and got straight to the finals, and was among the top six female singers.  In 2015 Netta was asked to join another Finnish folk metal band called “Ensiferum” for three years.

One of her biggest highlights was her World Championship in the Digital Accordion category of the Coupe Mondiale, which Matthias Matzke won in 2014, and Cory Pesaturo won in 2009. Since that, she has been one of the leading digital accordionists and has reached new crowds and young enthusiastic musicians.

Even though Netta’s life has been mostly surrounded by heavy metal music, she also writes some of her own music which contains a lot of pop and instrumental music. She is also very interested in movie soundtracks and therefore says that one of her idols is Hans Zimmer.  Netta continues to work with known bands, and has had the honor to perform with bands such as “Mokoma,” “Children of Bodom,” and “Turmion Katilot.”

Joe LoPiccolo is a guitarist and composer whose work is influenced by Classical, Jazz and World Music styles. Joe LoPiccolo is a graduate of The California Institute of the Arts, receiving his BFA in Jazz Guitar and his MFA in Guitar Performance. He is also a graduate of the Berklee College of Music Youth Summer Program and has taken masterclasses with guitarists Guinga, Paco Serrano and Mick Goodrick.

He is adjunct faculty at Mt. San Antonio College and College of the Canyons where he teaches World Music, Rock Music History, Group Guitar, Guitar Improvisation and Individual Guitar Instruction in both Jazz and classical genres. He has authored two texts, Guitar Mosaic and Improvisation for Guitarists and was a contributor to Andrew York’s Jazz Guitar For Classical Cats series by Alfred. Joe was a columnist for Fingerstyle Guitar Magazine, writing a column entitled “The Global Guitarist”.

He has been an ASCAP Plus Award recipient and won the Guitar Player Magazine “Reader’s Challenge” in February of 2006. Joe has Endorsement or Artist deals with Sadowsky Guitars, Evans Amps and La Bella Strings amongst others.
