ESTA BERNSEIN

Born in Connecticut, horse-crazy child, Esta Bernstein, began her love affair with horses before she could walk. Her parents owned a few Thoroughbred racehorses and she remembers fondly visiting them at the track and farms as a small child.

Though her parents were not affluent, she was blessed to have riding lessons at a day camp during her early elementary school years. At the age of 10, she volunteered as a trail guide in Easton, Connecticut, and witnessed some of the inhumane treatment the rental horses were exposed to at the hands of inexperienced people. These patient creatures endured beatings with sticks, being kicked and pulled, and non-stop riding in the heat and humidity of the summer months. They rarely felt the caress of a brush, and never saw a warm bath or an occasional kind word.

At age 12, Esta’s family went through unrecoverable financial hardships, and were forced to move many times over the course of a few years. One move to Denver, Colorado provided Esta the ability to volunteer part time as an assistant to a pair of horse wranglers. Having no idea at the time what that was, she witnessed the cruelty and abuse that some of the horses went through. They would purchase horses cheap at auctions or killer feedlots, break them, and resell them. The treatment of one horse was particularly disturbing. He was a 3-year old Quarter horse stud colt, which the wranglers attempted to geld themselves. After tying the petrified creature to a tree, they proceeded to beat him with a chain until he was too afraid to move. They inexpertly and ineffectively tranquilized him, tied his legs together, threw him on the ground, and cut off his testicles with an ordinary kitchen knife. “I went to check on him the following day. I cried on his neck, feeling helpless in the presence of this beaten, depressed, and confused hurting horse. I was going to call the humane society, but upon my return, the horses and the men that tormented them had disappeared.” She never saw them again.

Esta had an epiphany. Her life’s mission was to save horses from abuse and neglect, and provide them with a place to live out their lives in peace and dignity.

Many years passed and the call of the horses would wait no more. In her early 20’s, Esta had an opportunity to move to California, the place she envisioned her dreams to manifest. She was offered a position as a groom for Bobby Frankel’s racing stable and worked for about a year, until a back injury prevented her from returning to that kind of labor-intensive position. Knowing that she needed to stay in California to see her dreams through to fruition, she found employment outside of the horse industry, and remained in the Los Angeles area.

After working for about a year, the desire to work and be around horses, motivated her to save small amounts of money over time for the purchase of her very own horse. That horse turned out to be an 8 year old, lame, Arabian stallion to do trail riding. Why would anyone purchase a lame horse to go on trails with? She knew she could fix him. He had severe ringbone (arthritis) in his right front pastern and the joint was almost completely fused. She was told by everyone she spoke with that he would not make it to the age of 15. However, after 2 years of research, she found a way to cure him, and now at age 33 he is serviceably sound, still her trail horse and sired two beautiful colts for her to show.

Among Mr. Guest’s ever growing list of esteemed and influential patrons are other creative artists of great renown. The first person to ever pay top dollar for one of Mr. Guest’s creations was contemporary gospel great BeBe Winans.

Jazz legend Herbie Hancock has one of Chaz’s pieces hanging in his Hollywood home. Actor Josh Lucas purchased a painting of John Coltrane by Chaz from a Las Vegas gallery and was so moved that he emailed Guest to arrange a meeting to discuss the work in more depth. Film and television content creator Tyler Perry met Chaz at an Oprah Winfrey fundraiser and, after reconnecting with Chaz at his home studio, treated himself to five of his paintings for his new Atlanta home (hey, it was his birthday).

Chaz painted an amazing portrait of the first African American Supreme Court Justice Thurgood Marshall which graced then Senator Barack Obama’s Chicago office is now currently hanging in the Oval Office. Chaz has created a portrait of President Obama from the “Various Gallery” and limited edition serigraphs are available.

BETTINA MAUREENJI

Bettina Maureenji is an internationally certified sound healing practitioner, teacher, traveler, unique musician and shamanic practitioner with accreditation in sound, voice and music healing from the California Institute for Integral Studies in San Francisco, CA. Born 1971 in New York and of Germanic  descent, Bettina Maureenji grew up in Syria and Germany. She completed the University for management and administration and started working for a concert agency in Hamburg. In 1999 she left Germany and moved to Ibiza, Spain where she met the Brazilian musician Carioca Freitas who influenced her relationship to music. She decided to travel the world for a few years visiting Central and South America, Asia, Australia, Israel and England.

During a journey to Varanasi (India) in 2003 she decided to devote her life to music and began to study Indian Classical Music with Pandith Shivanat Mishra. Shortly after she discovered her love for singing and using her voice as her main instrument and  developed her own style in contemporary sitar playing. Weaving her musical expertise, her studies and her life experiences she is teaching voice opening classes and lessons and provides sound healing treatments. Together with her partner Narayan she facilitates private concerts and meditation retreats. She creates a safe space for healing to bring about transformational and positive experiences.

ALAN RODERICK-JONES

Alan Roderick Jones is a production designer and artist whose work spans five decades across multiple industries. He is the recipient of numerous awards in production design, including 6 Cleo Awards, the Silver Lion at Cannes, and the New York Advertising Award for Excellence in art direction.

 

Alan began his career in 1962 as a draftsman in the art department of the British Film Industry, enjoying the mentorship of some of the leading art directors of the day. He quickly worked his way from draftsman to art director, and eventually production designer. His early work includes 26 features – two of which, “Star Wars” and “Nicolas & Alexandra,” garnered Academy Awards for art direction.

 

In production design, Alan is best known for placing a high premium on achieving cinematic quality production values, regardless of budgetary constraints. From modest undertakings to big budget, effects-driven pieces, Alan has worked with renowned directors and cinematographers to conceptualize everything from the visual look of a production to designing sets and environments that allow optimum nuance for lighting. This is best seen in his commercial work for every major corporate client across every industry (seriously – too many to list).

 

Alan enjoys exploring new mediums and availing himself to unique challenges. He completed designing the interactive game environments of “The Lord Of The Rings”, “Van Helsing”, “Dirty Harry”, and “Hulk 2” for Universal Vivendi Interactive Division; and “Land of Legends” for Warner Interactive.

 

As an artist, Alan is known in the architectural community for design of exclusive private residences and hotel interiors across the globe – most notably, the Mandarin in Hong Kong and the Sheratons in Cairo and Bangkok. His works of fine art reside in the prestigious collections of international collectors and continue to be exhibited in galleries across the country.

Ray Abruzzo is a Sicilian-American Actor from Queens, New York.  He made regular appearances in the following series: Dynasty (as police sergeant John Zorelli), The Practice (as Detective Michael McGuire) and The Sopranos (as “Little” Carmine Lupertazzi). He also played the part of Tony Guiliano, Christine Sullivan’s fiance, husband, then ex-husband on the NBC-TV series Night Court.

Ray currently appears as “Sal” (Davina’s longterm boyfriend) on Amazon’s award winning series, Transparent.

Samuel’s second album Brazil Live Project, features some of the greatest talents in Brazilian music was entirely dedicating to the education of underprivileged children.

An Iowa native, Ben attributes his eclectic musical style to his diverse life experiences, blending elements of pop, New Age, soul, folk and gospel. Having grown up listening to all genres of music, and being greatly inspired by iconic pop, country and folk storytellers such as James Taylor, Elton John and Garth Brooks, Ben learned popular songwriting through aural osmosis. Then at the age of 15 he picked up a guitar and taught himself to play by writing original music based on his life experiences. Needing to expand his horizons, at 18 years old Ben left Iowa to train classically in voice and acting at CSU, Los Angeles where he learned not only the essentials of good vocal technique, but also the crucial necessity for authentic connection and true inspiration in performance.

Ben began his career as a recording artist shortly after college, releasing his self-titled debut album in 2013. In 2014, he formed the singer-songwriter’s collective “The Sovereign Sons & Daughters” with whom he toured for 3 months, and in the Summer of 2014, Ben embarked on a crowd-funded solo tour of the UK. His recent acoustic EP, “CLIMB” debuted in January 2015 and for the rest of 2015 Ben lead THE JOY MACHINE, a collective of local instrumentalists and vocalists whose mission was to spread joy, love and connection through the power of live music. In 2016, with the help of The Joy Machine, Ben recorded and released the community-funded “King Benjamin’s Royal Heart,” a New Age-Pop concept album whose positive messaging has inspired countless listeners. Ben currently performs both as a singer-songwriter and as a workshop leader, collaborating with yoginis, sound healers and flow artists to generate holistic wellness.
