This week we are looking at the spiritual discipline of Sabbath keeping, out of Luke 4:16 and Mark 2:23-27. Here we see that Jesus himself practiced Sabbath as a means of connecting with the Father and allowing the Father to care for his physical, emotional, and spiritual needs. We will see how Jesus did this, and how in our context we might do the same.

This Sunday I’m excited to start a new series, How to Grow: Spiritual Disciplines for Ordinary People. Our study begins in 1 Kings 19:1-18, with a story of how God cared for Elijah, and a reminder of how God wants to care for us, and how we can lean into his work in our lives.

We'll be discussing Luke 18 and 19, which show two different responses to our Giving God’s love, and His invitation to be givers.

New members, and Q4/year-end report

This Sunday we are looking at a different aspect of outreach: compassion and justice, out of Micah 6:6-8. Here God addresses our tendency to substitute religiosity for actually caring for people. Instead of hollow ritual, God calls us to three actions that demonstrate our love for him: act justly, love mercy, and walk humbly.

This week we are continuing with our 2024 emphasis on outreach, asking what mission looks like in a time and place like ours, where the gospel seems like foolishness to so many, and trust in the Church and in Christians is so low. Thankfully, our story is not new, as the New Testament church often found itself in similar circumstances. Our text is Colossians 4:2-6.

This week we start our vision and values series, with one theme in mind: outreach. This week’s text is John 15:26-27, where Jesus articulates his followers role in sharing about him. It is not primarily that of preaching, convincing, arguing, or philosophizing, but simply being a witness – sharing what we have seen and heard.

This week is New Years Eve also known as "Youth Pastor Preaches" Sunday. I'll join many other youth pastors this Sunday as we preach the Word to our people. This Sunday, I'll be bringing the Word with a challenge, "Hiding God's Word In Our Heart." We all know that memorizing Bible verses is a good thing. But we don't always do it, we're not always motivated to actively engage this spiritual discipline. This might be for a couple of reasons, but ultimately it boils down to the fact that we don't know the benefits that we gain by memorizing Scripture. Focusing on Psalm 119:1-20, I'll highlight the benefits of memorizing Scripture & help everyone see that it is something that they CAN do, even if their lives are busy. I'll also challenge everyone to make memorizing Scripture one of their New Year's resolutions (& even invite them to join me in memorizing Philippians 4:4-9 over the next couple of months).

Merry Christmas! The angels announced Jesus’ coming by saying he would bring peace – something we so desperately need. What does this mean, and how can we be part of the peace Jesus brings?
