  • Measuring Stick - Ballad

    Send us Fan Mail

    Good morning, my beautiful friends!

I hope you have all had an amazing summer! Over the past couple of months, I’ve been thinking about ways to continue moving forward with this podcast, and I’m excited to share a fun new direction with you—I’ve started putting Life Lessons of an Ordinary Woman into a musical format!

I’ve been writing songs, particularly ballads, as a way to share what is in my heart as I continue learning and growing into my life, exploring my spirituality, and finding ways to become more comfortable with being unapologetically me.

I hope you enjoy listening to the songs and ballads I’ve created—and the ones I’ll continue to write. Some will have a religious or spiritual aspect, while others will simply be observations about life, love, growth, and the people and experiences that shape us. Many of the songs tie directly into the chapters and stories I’ve written in my memoir.

🎶 “Patchwork Quilt” is about the people who come into our lives along the journey—the Redwood Trees and Sunflowers who provide strength, beauty, encouragement, and inspiration along the way. This song is my way of saying thank you to those special people for being part of my life.

🎶 “Measuring Stick” is about those times when we introduce ourselves as “just anybody” or somehow convince ourselves that we aren’t important or special. It’s a reminder that we shouldn’t measure our worth against someone else’s measuring stick. We need to know who we are, recognize our own value, and—most importantly—learn to love ourselves exactly as we are.

I’m not sure yet how many songs I’ll create or how quickly I’ll share them, so keep checking back and join me as I take this fun and unexpected pivot in my podcast!

And as always, I LOVE hearing from you! Your thoughts, feedback, and ideas mean so much to me. Please feel free to send me an email at [email protected] or click the Fan Mail button to share your thoughts.

And if you’re enjoying Life Lessons of an Ordinary Woman, please LIKE, FOLLOW, and SHARE the podcast with someone you think would make a wonderful addition to our community.

Thank you for being here, for listening, and for taking this journey with me. ❤️🎶

Here’s to learning, growing, creating, and becoming more unapologetically ourselves—one life lesson at a time.

🎶 “Abracadabra Jesus” is about finding your own, unique way to pray. Sometimes we worry that we aren’t saying the “right” words or that our prayers need to sound a certain way. But I believe Jesus understands our prayers no matter how they come out.

For me, this song connects with one of the life lessons in my memoir: “If Sally sells seashells, what else does she do?” It’s about learning to use my own voice—even with my lisp, imperfections, stumbles, and all—to share my words with the world.

For a long time, I worried about how I sounded and whether I was saying things the “right” way. But maybe the point isn’t to sound like everyone else. Maybe the point is simply to use the voice you were given.

Just as I can talk to Jesus in my own way and trust that He understands what I’m trying to say, I’m learning that I can share my thoughts, my stories, my songs, and my words with the world in my own voice, too.

So, Abracadabra Jesus is really about more than prayer. It’s about authenticity, finding your voice, and having the courage to use it—even when it isn’t perfect.

I’m not sure yet how many songs I’ll create or how quickly I’ll share them, so keep checking back and join me as I take this fun and unexpected pivot in my podcast!
