Deana Puccio is a former Assistant District Attorney from New York City. She worked in the Sex Crimes/Special Victims Unit of the Kings County District Attorney’s Office in Brooklyn. As a sex crimes prosecutor she worked on cases involving adult, teenage and child victims.

Married and the mother of three daughters living in London, she co-founded the organisation, The RAP Project, which is Raising Awareness and Prevention for teens and young adults in 2013. The initial vision was to address young women and raise awareness around personal safety issues. Now having worked in over 150 schools and spoken to over 40,000 young people, RAP has expanded to young men, parents and corporate employees, and now also addresses internet safety and body image issues.

She has appeared as an expert commentator on Sky News and has been featured with her Co-Founder in The Mail on Sunday’s You Magazine.

Vicky joined us in our last Empowered to Thrive course and was kind enough to join us this week and talk about what she learnt.

Like many of us, she found herself on a place of survival, only (again, like many of us!) she didn't know that's what it was.

Mother, wife, also carer of her elderly mum.... she spent her days looking after those she loved, but hardly ever looked after herself. And this not only had an impact on her own energy and health, but on those around her.

It is very easy to fall prey of this routine, we live in autopilot and think this is the way, the only way, what we have to do.

But life is far more than this, life is about joy, happiness, being on the driver seat and learning to control what we can control to thrive.

In this episode we interview the incredible Shirley Kennet.

Shirley joined and become a constable in the Metropolitan Police Service at 18 years of age and spent most of her career as a Detective. Her final job in the police was working as a Detective Sergeant in the Community Safety Unit where she managed cases relating to domestic violence until she was medically retired from the police in August 2017, as she suffered from several health issues.

She then started her own business, working in her local community as a carer for the elderly.

And earlier last year she set her own personal goal to get her health and well-being back!

The changes she made in her life transformed her and inspired her to help others do and feel the same, so she then became a coach and is on a path to help women feel better about themselves.

This week we had the lovely Sarah Fruehling with us.

Today marks a big milestone in getting back to normal life in the UK, schools re-open and thousands of students return to school, their learning and friends.

And this is something that is causing mixed reactions, in both children and parents. For children, you may find some of them looking forward to it, to see their friends and get a bit of normality back in their lives, for some others, this comes as a shock and they do not want to go back, as a result, fears, anger, anxiety.... are showing up.

Parents are not too different, some will be celebrating theirs kids being back and looking forward to getting some time back and not juggle too many balls, some will be missing this unique time spent with their kids, some will do both.
