We live in times when worry and anxiety are at an all-time high. In the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus taught some time-tested ancient secrets to overcoming worry (Mt. 6:25-43). Pastor Max explains why we should not worry, how worry gets a hold of us, and how to turn worry into trust. 

The Lord is good: this is a well-established truth. But if this is true, where do all the suffering and evil come from? James explains that good and perfect gifts come from God (Jam. 1:16-17), and Jesus re-assures us that God will never give us a stone or a serpent when we ask Him for bread and fish (Mt. 7:7-11). This means that we are free to taste and see that the LORD is good (Psa. 34:8). In 1 Corinthians 11:28 the Apostle Paul talks about discerning the Lord’s Body. What does this mean? Who is the Lord’s Body? It is vital that we recognize and understand this, so we can partake of the Lord’s supper in a worthy manner and get along with other members of the Body of Christ.

These verses are hard to understand, and they can be wrongly used to either justify mistreatment or fostering a victim mentality. This is not what Jesus meant. Forgiving other people when they hurt us is hard to do. Approximately 700 years before Christ, God prophesied that one day He would make a New Covenant with His people (Jer 31:33). That day has come. When God made this promise, His people were facing very dark times and they were about to be deported into Babylon. In the midst of all this tragedy, God consoled His people, gave them new hope and made this wonderful promise. That’s just the way God is: when you face difficult times, God is right there to give you a hope and a future (Rom 15:13).
