Every journey with VSG - Gastric Sleeve Surgery is different. I had surgery the same time as two other ladies and all three of us are on different paths now in our healing. I had two weeks of liquids post surgery and it isn't easy. Here's what I learned and my advice to those just starting this journey. It's a crazy, beautiful adventure into a healthier new me. 

Seven days prior to surgery, VSG patients have to start their pre-op diet aka liquids week. And oh boy, is it ever so exciting, (she says sarcastically). Thus, I had to find a lot of things to keep me busy and not think about food. I will say, the first day is the hardest.

As my surgery date nears, (one week to go, y'all!) I had to go through my pre-op appointments first. From a physical, to lab work and a visit to my surgeon's office - it was a busy, busy week! Plus, I found out some things about the surgery I wasn't aware of before. Listen and find out!

There are several ways to qualify for the VSG (gastric sleeve) surgery. I, myself, qualified by having a BMI between 35-40 and moderate sleep apnea. And let me tell you, the sleep apnea test wasn't so easy for me. 

Plus, I'm going to share with you what the final Binder class is like. And what shock I received...

I was required to do six months of education classes, therapy and meeting with a nutritionist ahead of my surgery. While typical classroom settings don't work for me, these were all virtual sessions. I want to share everything I went through and learned, and what I liked the best. Just tips and tricks I learned along the way. Three weeks to go until my surgery date!

Vertical sleeve gastrectomy is surgery to help with weight loss, among many things. The surgeon removes a large portion of the stomach. This new, smaller stomach is about the size of a banana. It limits the amount of food I will be able to eat by making me feel full after only eating small amounts of the right nutritional foods. But, IT IS NOT A QUICK FIX. This is a tool I will have to live with forever and will be helping me with several health issues I've been dealing with for many years now. My eating, drinking and life style choices will be forever changed. And this is only the beginning.
