There are moments when we want to obey God with all our heart—but we feel completely stuck. We pray, we wait, we ask again, and still, it seems like heaven is silent. This devotional puts words to that frustrating experience: pacing, pleading, searching for clarity, and feeling anxious because we don’t want to make the wrong decision. When we don’t know what to do, the pressure can become overwhelming, especially when we set timelines and demand certainty.
But in the midst of that tension, today’s devotional offers a perspective shift that can bring peace: what if God cares more about the posture of our hearts than the perfection of our choices? What if the question isn’t only What should I do? but also How am I walking while I wait? That’s where Scripture gives us a simple, steady anchor: “Do everything in love.” Love becomes a compass when direction feels unclear.
Instead of spiraling into distress, we can learn to “wait well”—not by forcing answers, but by choosing patience and surrender. Waiting well looks like staying rooted in God’s Word, loving Him even when we don’t understand, loving ourselves with kindness instead of criticism, and loving others as we discern next steps. When decisions must be made, we can ask: Will this move me toward greater love for God, myself, and others—or will it reduce love? When love leads, we can trust God to fill in the gaps, guide us on His timeline, and direct our path with purpose.
Main Takeaways
God’s silence can feel frustrating, but it doesn’t mean He is absent.
Sometimes God is more focused on your heart posture than the “perfect” decision.
Love is a reliable compass when clarity feels out of reach.
Waiting well means resisting distress and choosing endurance through love.
When making decisions, ask what will produce more love toward God, yourself, and others.
Today’s Bible Verse: 1 Corinthians 16:14

Do you struggle with prayer—what to say, how to say it, and whether God will respond? Does God ever feel distant or silent when you cry out to Him? In this episode, guest Rachel Britton shares why prayer often feels difficult, especially when we feel fearful, disappointed, or anxious, and she explains how simple, guided prayers can help us open our hearts wider to the Lord.
(Download this episodes free companion guide here.)
Together, Carol and Rachel explore what we can learn from biblical women who prayed through some of Scripture’s most painful and complicated moments:
Their lives reveal that God hears those of us who feel unseen, afraid, or unsure. Through their stories, Rachel invites us to grow in confidence—not by having perfect words, but by remembering we are perfectly loved.

François Fénelon once wrote that surrender isn’t about heroic acts we can brag about—it’s a quiet acceptance of what God allows, and a willingness to follow His will even when we’d rather rewrite the story. That kind of surrender brings peace.
But when decisions come—big or small—we often try to take control and ask God to bless our plans. Like Abraham and Sarah, we can grow restless and rush ahead, creating more pain than peace. Scripture reminds us that true wisdom begins by looking outward to God, not inward to ourselves. When we seek His will and trust His direction, He promises to show us the path to take (Proverbs 3:5–6).
Even Jesus modeled this kind of surrender. In the garden, He prayed, “Not as I will, but as You will” (Matthew 26:39). Tonight, we’re invited to follow His example—to welcome God’s direction, trust His timing, and rest in His plan with a peace that surpasses understanding.
TONIGHT’S SCRIPTURE
“Seek his will in all you do, and he will show you which path to take.” — Proverbs 3:6 (NLT)
YOUR NIGHTLY PRAYER
Lord,
You know how often I try to force events to go my way. Instead of waiting on You or seeking Your will, I rush forward and miss the path You had lovingly made. From now on, help me to be quick to welcome Your direction instead of trusting in my knowledge or feelings. God, You know the best steps forward. I don’t want to get ahead of Your timing. Grant me patience as I wait, and diligence to search Your Word to find encouragement and guidance. And help me to rest in Your plan, accepting the path You set before me. May I do Your will, and not my own.
In Jesus’ name, I pray.
Amen.
THREE THINGS TO MEDITATE UPON
A picture of true rest:
Think of a sleeping baby or a curled-up puppy—safe, unafraid, fully at peace. What does their posture teach you about what it means to rest? Where might God be inviting you to rest tonight instead of striving?
A verse that has guided you:
What Scripture has God used to direct your life before? Write it down and consider memorizing it this week so it becomes a steady anchor when you’re unsure of what to do next.
A warning from someone else’s shortcut:
Think of Abraham and Sarah rushing ahead of God’s timing (Genesis 16). What hardships followed? In what ways might your current situation look different if you sought God’s will first instead of moving forward on impulse?

Waiting on God’s answers can stretch our faith, especially when prayers feel unheard or delayed. Drawing from Matthew 7:7–8, this devotional reframes waiting as part of God’s process—assuring us that He hears every prayer and faithfully responds, even when His answers are still unfolding.
Highlights
God hears every prayer, even when the answer doesn’t come immediately.
Delayed answers don’t mean ignored prayers—sometimes they’re simply “in the queue.”
Jesus’ words in Matthew 7 remind us to keep asking, seeking, and knocking.
Waiting requires trust in God’s timing, not doubt in His goodness.
Scripture repeatedly affirms God’s faithfulness and unchanging character.
God’s track record throughout the Bible proves He keeps His promises.
A loving Father gives good gifts, even when the wait feels long.

My Prayer Is Still in the Queue
By Lauren Fletcher
Bible Reading:
“Keep on asking, and you will receive what you ask for. Keep on seeking, and you will find. Keep on knocking, and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks, receives. Everyone who seeks, finds. And to everyone who knocks, the door will be opened.” - Matthew 7:7-8
Something I’ve been learning is the importance of patience in prayer. Often, I expect and hope God to answer right away. I’ll be praying so desperately, hoping to hear His response. When I don’t hear anything, I wonder, God, are You answering my prayer? This happened recently when I was praying for something. What God revealed to me is that He was answering my prayer, but it was still in the queue.
Do you remember the days of downloading music? If you downloaded multiple things at once, the computer would download about three, and all the others were in the queue, waiting to be downloaded. I remember how impatient I would feel, eager to listen to these songs. It was a wait. Eventually, though, I would be able to play them.
In this illustration, God helped me to understand that sometimes, my prayers are in the queue. God has heard them, He has answered them, but I have to wait for a little while for those answers. They are in the works.
Matthew 7:7-8 encourages me that God not only listens to my prayers but answers them. He says that “everyone who asks, receives” (emphasis added). So, when I pray, He responds.

Mission work is often misunderstood as simply traveling to another country, sharing the gospel, and returning home. But today’s devotional reminds us that true mission work goes much deeper. It involves learning about people groups, understanding culture, building meaningful relationships, and sharing Christ through everyday life in a way that honors and respects those being served. Genuine missions isn’t rushed or surface-level—it’s relational, humble, and rooted in long-term discipleship.
The devotional points to Paul’s example as a model for mission work: he lived among people, studied their beliefs, and communicated the truth of Jesus in a way they could understand. That kind of ministry requires wisdom, patience, and dependence on God. And it also requires prayer—both before missionaries leave and while they are serving. Prayer strengthens those who go and those who send, especially because mission trips often come with spiritual opposition. The enemy does not want the gospel to spread, which is why prayer becomes part of the preparation and the protection.
If you have loved ones going on a mission trip—or if you’re preparing for one yourself—this devotional is an encouragement that you are not alone. God goes before His people, watches over them wherever they go, and promises not to leave them. That truth brings peace for the traveler and comfort for those who remain at home. Today’s focus is a call to cover missionaries in prayer: for spiritual strength, humility, cultural understanding, protection, and a Christ-like love that shines brightly in every place they serve.
Main Takeaways
True mission work is relational, humble, and deeply invested in people—not just travel and preaching.
Learning culture and showing respect are key parts of effective gospel ministry.
Missionaries often face spiritual opposition before and during the trip, making prayer essential.
God promises to be with His people wherever they go and to watch over them.
Covering missionaries in prayer brings protection, strength, and encouragement for the mission.
Today’s Bible Verse: Genesis 28:15
