Today’s Bible Verse
“On coming to the house, they saw the child with his mother Mary, and they bowed down and worshiped him. Then they opened their treasures and presented him with gifts of gold, frankincense and myrrh.” — Matthew 2:11
Matthew 2:11 captures the heart of Christmas worship. The Magi traveled far, followed faithfully, and when they finally encountered Jesus, their response was surrender. They bowed, they worshiped, and they offered their treasures.
On Christmas Day, this verse reminds us that worship is more than words—it’s a posture of the heart. Jesus doesn’t ask for what we can afford to give; He invites us to offer what we value most. True worship begins when we recognize who He is and respond with our whole selves.

David wrote these words while hiding in a cave, pursued by King Saul and far from the throne God had promised him. His circumstances did not look victorious or hopeful, yet his heart still lifted praise to God. David reminds us that God is not only worthy of glory when life feels settled, but even—perhaps especially—when life feels dark and uncertain. Christmas assures us that God comes near, not only in moments of celebration, but also in the quiet caves of waiting, fear, and unanswered prayers. Even there, He remains Emmanuel—God with us.
TONIGHT’S SCRIPTURE
“Be exalted, O God, above the heavens! Let your glory be over all the earth!”
— Psalm 57:5
YOUR NIGHTLY PRAYER
Father,
Thank you for coming near to us through Jesus, leaving heaven’s glory to meet us in our weakness. Tonight, I bring the dark and quiet places of my life to You—the circumstances that haven’t changed and the prayers that still feel unanswered. Help me remember that You are my refuge, not the cave I’m hiding in. Teach me to trust You here, and to exalt You even before my situation looks different. Let Your steadfast love and faithfulness carry me through the waiting, and may my life bring You glory, both in heaven and on earth.
In Jesus’ name,
Amen.
THREE THINGS TO MEDITATE UPON
What circumstance in your life currently feels like a “dark cave”? How might God be inviting you to seek refuge in Him rather than focusing on the fear around you?
Are you waiting for God to change your circumstances before praising Him, or can you declare His goodness even now?
How does remembering Jesus as Emmanuel—God with us—change the way you view your current season of waiting or struggle?

Interview Quotes:
“It was a team effort, so if I had a hit, so did they, all those wonderful people. And we just had a ball.” - Brenda Lee
“I try to tell the new artists that are coming up, ‘You don’t do this by yourself. You may be the greatest singer that ever walked the earth, but if you don’t conform and listen, you’ll still be a great singer, but nobody will know.’” - Brenda Lee
“If you don’t make it on your voice, you’ll make it on your kindness. Goodness always wins out.” - Brenda Lee
“I think that walking alongside other people in celebrations and in painful times, and constantly looking to the Scripture to inform, guide, and help you make decisions, to find hope when times are dark, and to be able to magnify your joys when you’re celebrating—to do that together is the very nature of what we see God unfolding in the Bible.” - Philip Nation
Christmas morning can easily become about exhaustion, expectations, and excitement—but Matthew 2:10–11 reminds us that true joy is found in worshiping Jesus first. By intentionally centering Christmas morning on Christ, families can experience deeper peace, joy, and meaning that lasts far beyond the presents under the tree.
Highlights
The Magi modeled Christmas worship by rejoicing, bowing, and offering their treasures to Jesus.
Holiday exhaustion can distract us, but worship refocuses our hearts on what matters most.
Keeping Christ central requires intentional planning, just like other Christmas traditions.
Simple practices—reading Luke 2, singing hymns, or praying together—anchor the day in truth.
Family traditions can joyfully point children to Jesus without removing the magic of Christmas.
Reprioritizing schedules may feel uncomfortable, but it reflects the sacrificial heart of the Gospel.
Honoring Jesus on Christmas morning creates opportunities to witness to others through love and example.

Emphasizing Christ on Christmas Morning
By: Peyton Garland
Bible Reading:
“When they saw the star, they were overjoyed. On coming to the house, they saw the child with his mother Mary, and they bowed down and worshiped him. Then they opened their treasures and presented him with gifts of gold, frankincense and myrrh.” Matthew 2:10-11 (NIV)
If we’re honest, most of us will admit that once Christmas morning arrives, we are utterly exhausted. Whether we are parents who stayed up all night putting together toys with hundreds of tiny pieces, we’ve spent the last week scrambling for last-minute gifts, or we are entertaining guests over the holiday, we have pushed our bodies to the limit. They quickly tell on us, eyes heavy, mind screaming for coffee, slippers dragging the floor.
Amid this busy season, how can we ensure that Christ remains the center of Christmas morning, bringing us peace, joy, and hopeful energy far superior to our dark roast brew? How can we approach Christmastime so we enjoy all the festive traditions yet keep the manger the main thing?
Thankfully, the answer isn’t a deep secret, and it’s what most of us do well, almost too well, this time of year. Planning. Conscientious, motivated planning. No doubt, we go to great detail to collaborate with friends concerning the annual tacky Christmas sweater party. We ensure that we pack and donate at least on
In this special Christmas episode of The Salvation Army’s HEARTBEAT, we celebrate the greatest gift ever given—Jesus Christ. On that first Christmas night, God entered our world not in power or wealth, but as a humble baby in a manger. His coming reminds us that God’s love isn’t distant or unreachable—it’s personal. Christmas is more than lights, gifts, and traditions; it’s about Emmanuel—God with us.
Key Takeaways:
Jesus is the greatest gift—God’s love wrapped in flesh.
Christmas is personal—God came near to show us His love.
Hope has a name and peace has a source—Jesus.
You’re never alone—He came for you, He is with you, and He will never leave you.
