  • The Crosswalk Devotional: A Daily Devotional Chris... - Sharing Christ’s Light This Halloween

Halloween doesn’t have to be a night of fear—it can be a night of faith in action. Rooted in Matthew 5:16, this devotional reminds believers that even on the darkest day of the year, God’s light shines brightest through us. Instead of retreating, Christians can use Halloween as a powerful opportunity to connect, protect, and share Christ’s love with their neighbors. Whether through simple acts of kindness, offering a safe space, or handing out a message of hope, we can turn Halloween into a day of light.

    Highlights

    • Transform Halloween from a day of darkness into one of redemptive mission and community connection.

    • Designate your home as a safe house where children can find refuge and kindness amid the chaos.

    • Share the Gospel naturally by including tracts or church invite cards with candy.

    • Host a bonfire or neighborhood gathering to build relationships and spark meaningful faith conversations.

    • Use Halloween as an opportunity to demonstrate God’s love and create a welcoming, light-filled atmosphere.

    • Remember: when we shine Christ’s light, even the darkest night can point others to the hope of the Gospel.

    Sharing Christ’s Light This Halloween
    By Michelle Lazurek

    Bible Reading:
“In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.” - Matthew 5:16

Growing up in a Catholic household, I participated in Halloween each year. I dressed up as many of my favorite cartoon characters: one year I was a Care Bear, and one year I was a Smurf. Once, I was even Punky Brewster! Even as a kid, something was clear:

Each year that passed, I hated Halloween more.

Even before I knew the Lord, something stirred in my soul each Halloween. As a kid, many of my friends dressed up as innocent cartoon characters. But as we got older and entered our teenage years, the masks and costumes grew gorier, bloodier, and scarier. This made a day that I dreaded, now one that I couldn't stand.

As an adult, I have come to discover the redemptive qualities of Halloween. Raising our kids, we participated in Halloween, but we did not celebrate it. Our kids were also allowed to dress up as innocent cart

  • Your Daily Prayer - A Prayer for Light as Darker Months Approach

As the days grow shorter and the air turns colder, many of us feel the heaviness of the season settle in. In today's prayer and devotional, we reflect on the fact that the vibrant colors of fall can be beautiful, but they also remind us of change — of endings, of fading light, and for some, of loss. For those who struggle with sadness or seasonal depression, autumn’s arrival can stir deep emotions of grief and loneliness.

In this heartfelt reflection, Vivian Bricker invites us to remember that even in seasons of darkness, God’s light still shines. The same Jesus who conquered death and the grave continues to overcome the shadows within and around us. His presence pushes back despair and fills our hearts with hope.

When the darker months approach, we can rest in the truth of John 1:5: no matter how dim life feels, the light of Christ cannot be extinguished. He is the Light of the World — steady, eternal, and strong enough to illuminate even our heaviest days.

    Today's Bible Reading:
“The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.” – John 1:5

    Takeaway Truths

    • Even in the darkest seasons, God’s light continues to shine.

    • The changing of the seasons reminds us of God’s constant presence and care.

    • Christ, the Light of the World, overcomes both spiritual and emotional darkness.

    Let’s Pray

    Dear God,

As the darker months approach, help me to see Your light clearly. When my spirit feels heavy and my heart begins to ache, remind me that You are the Light of the World and that no darkness can overcome You.

Shine brightly into my heart, Lord. Replace my fear and sadness with Your peace. When the days feel long and gray, help me find joy in Your presence and hope in Your promises. Thank You for being faithful in every season.

    In Jesus’ name, Amen.

  • Your Nightly Prayer: Evening Prayers for Christian... - He's Still Working on Me

We are all a work in progress — every one of us. As our nightly prayer and devotional recall, in Philippians 1:6, Paul reminds believers that God’s work in our lives is ongoing, intentional, and faithful. He is shaping our hearts and refining our character day by day, even when we can’t yet see the finished masterpiece.

Angie Grant recalls a sweet song from her childhood:

“He’s still working on me to make me what I ought to be… How loving and patient He must be, He’s still working on me.”

This simple tune carries a profound truth: God is patient with His people. His process may not be instant, but it is purposeful. As parents, spouses, or friends, we’re called to reflect that same patience toward others — especially when life feels slow or imperfect.

Angie shares a touching moment when her young son gently reminded her of this truth by singing,

“There really ought to be a sign upon my heart, don’t judge me yet, there’s an unfinished part…”

In that moment, she was reminded that God is still working on all of us — refining, healing, and shaping us into His image. When frustration arises, may we remember His faithfulness in the past and trust that the good work He began will surely be completed.

    TONIGHT’S SCRIPTURE

“He who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.”
    — Philippians 1:6

    MAIN TAKEAWAYS

    • God’s work in you is not finished — He is still shaping and refining your heart.

    • Progress takes time, but God’s timing is perfect.

    • Patience and grace in our homes reflect the character of Christ.

    • Looking back on God’s past faithfulness strengthens our trust for today.

    • Spiritual maturity develops through the process, not instant perfection.

    YOUR EVENING PRAYER

    Lord,
Thank You for reminding me that You are still at work in my life. Forgive me for my impatience when I can’t see the outcome. I know that You are faithful and good, and that every situation is part of Your perfect plan. Help me to be patient with myself and others, and may my home overflow with grace as You continue to shape us into Your image.

  • Confessions of a Christian Alcoholic with Jon Seid... - The Woman Who Became a Porn Addict: Kirby Kelly Tells Her Story of Keeping Secrets and the Key to Breaking Free (Episode 25)

“Sin doesn’t care who you are or what you’ve seen—it’s coming for all of us.”

That theme runs through Kirby Kelly’s story. See, she's part of a group of women you don't often hear about: females that struggle (or have struggled) with pornography addiction. Kirby's story is heartbreaking: She was exposed to pornography at four years old, again at seven, and then again at ten. Each time the exposure happened it left a deeper imprint of secrecy and shame. Even after coming to Christ, she carried the hidden struggle for years, convinced she had to fix it alone. In college, a simple exercise called "stand for your sister" opened the door to confession, community, and real healing.

But Kirby's exposure to addiction goes beyond her own. She also happens to be the child of two parents who died of complications related to alcoholism.

In this episode, Kirby talks candidly about growing up as the daughter of two alcoholics, why isolation kept her stuck, and how confession—to God and within community—helped her find freedom. She also shares how abiding in Christ moved from discipline to desire, why boundaries are not buzzkills but protection, and the hope-filled message she wants every struggling parent to hear.

    We explore:

    — Early exposure, shame, and why secrecy fuels addiction
    — Confession vs. concealment and how healing begins in honest community
    — Sanctification: messy, daily, real
    — Escapism, control, and chasing dopamine
    — Abiding in Christ as the path to peace and freedom
    — Practical boundaries for media and triggers
    — What she tells parents wrestling with addiction and their kids

  • Your Daily Bible Verse - Why God's Timing Feels So Slow (Psalm 32:8)

    Today’s Bible Verse:
"I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you with my loving eye on you." — Psalm 32:8

Psalm 32:8 offers a powerful promise of divine direction and care. God doesn’t just command us from a distance—He personally guides, teaches, and counsels us with love. When uncertainty clouds our next step, this verse reminds us that we’re not walking alone.

God’s guidance isn’t harsh or impatient. It’s tender, watchful, and rooted in His desire to lead us toward wisdom and peace. All He asks is our willingness to listen and trust His gentle instruction.
