Discern What’s Best
By: Whitney Hopler
“And this is my prayer: that your love may abound more and more in knowledge and depth of insight, so that you may be able to discern what is best and may be pure and blameless for the day of Christ, filled with the fruit of righteousness that comes through Jesus Christ – to the glory and praise of God.” – Philippians 1:9-11, NIV
As I looked forward to a weekend coming up, I considered how I’d like to spend it. I loved adventures in nature, so maybe I could hike with my husband in a park, even though the forecast called for rain. I thought of how a coworker was planning to binge watch a new TV show that I also wanted to see, but I didn’t want to let TV consume too much of my weekend. I couldn’t forget my to-do list of work, chores, and errands I wanted to get through, so I planned which ones I might tackle first. All of those choices were good enough not to be bad, but none of them excited me. So, I prayed about my weekend plans, asking for guidance. Then a good friend came to mind, and when I called her, she invited me to attend an event at her church that weekend. At that event, I experienced
Serving God is not a burden—it is a privilege. Psalm 100:2 reminds us to “Serve the Lord with gladness, come before his presence with singing.” In a world that encourages us to serve ourselves first, this passage calls us back to the joy of putting God above all.
Keneesha Saunders-Liddie invites us to rediscover the beauty of living a life fully surrendered to God—whether through worship, our work, our relationships, or even the simplest acts of daily living. True service is not drudgery but gratitude in action, born from recognizing God’s endless blessings and faithful provision.
Main Takeaways
Serving God is a privilege, not an obligation.
Every aspect of our lives can become an act of worship and service.
Gratitude transforms service from a duty into joy.
God is worthy of our glad-hearted praise in all circumstances.

Psalm 100:2 – Serve the Lord with gladness.

In today's episode, Rev. Dr. Harold Ristau—parish pastor, former military chaplain, missionary, and seminary professor, now at Luther Classical College—joins Becket Cook to unpack his new book, "Spiritual Warfare and Deliverance: How to Minister to the Demonically Oppressed and Possessed." They tackle why modern skepticism about demons persists, how rationalism distorts a biblical worldview, and why deliverance belongs to the pastoral office. Dr. Ristau explains the difference between oppression and possession, the role of Scripture, fasting, and humility, and why deliverance is more “art + science” than a mechanical formula.
You’ll hear practical counsel for house cleansing, using sacred Scripture aloud, and building a post-deliverance life (church, Word, prayer). Dr. Ristau walks through the “RAT principle” (trap, kill, remove the crumbs), cautions against turning psychology into a catch-all, and even weighs in on the “aliens” question through a spiritual lens. If you’re looking for sober theology with concrete tools for real spiritual battles, this conversation is both bracing and deeply pastoral.

Do you ever feel like you’re bothering God when you pray? Maybe you start with, “Sorry to trouble You again, Lord…” or wonder if He’s tired of hearing the same requests. In tonight's prayer and devotional Rachel Wojo, host of Untangling Prayer, reminds us that God never rolls His eyes at our prayers. He doesn’t view us as burdens—He treasures every word.
Psalm 116:5 paints a picture of God’s heart: full of compassion, kindness, and mercy. The Hebrew word for compassion, racham, reflects a deep, tender love—like that of a mother for her child. Your Heavenly Father is infinitely patient, never too busy, and never tired of hearing your voice.
So whether you’ve prayed about something once or a thousand times, remember this: you are His beloved child. Children are never burdens to a good Father.
Tonight’s Scripture: Psalm 116:5
“How kind the Lord is! How good he is! So merciful, this God of ours!”

Your Nightly Prayer
Heavenly Father,
Forgive me for the times I’ve treated prayer like I was intruding. Thank You that Your compassion never runs dry and that You delight in every word I speak to You. Tonight, I let go of the lie that I’m “too much” for You and receive the truth that I am loved, welcomed, and cherished. Thank You for listening every single time I call.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Three Things to Meditate Upon
God’s Endless Patience: His capacity to listen never runs out—multiply the patience of the kindest person you know by infinity.
A Father’s Delight: Picture the joy of a parent when their child runs to them—this is God’s posture toward you every time you pray.
Your All-Access Pass: Through Jesus, the temple veil was torn. You have constant access to God’s presence, no appointment needed.

Episode Summary:
Aging is not for the faint of heart. But weight gain, illness, and infirmity do not have to be a way of life in our older years. The Bible has much to say about energy, vitality, healthy living, and aging gracefully. Taking care of our bodies is not selfish: it’s critical. Scripture reminds us that our bodies are the temple of the Holy Spirit. If we don’t take care of our bodies, they won’t take care of us. What is it we need to know to age well?
In honor of Women's Health & Fitness Day, we are thrilled to welcome Shemane Nugent, (wife of Ted Nugent) a fitness instructor with over forty-three years of experience, author of Abundantly Well, and a passionate advocate for aging gracefully. What if you could feel healthier and happier without giving up your favorite foods or spending hours at the gym? In this episode, Shemane will share her favorite tips for staying in shape, feeling energized, and embracing vitality in your forties, fifties, sixties, and beyond. Together, we’ll explore how simple daily choices can ignite passion and purpose, no matter your age.
