Getting Ready for Autumn
By Vivian Bricker
“Be patient, then, brothers and sisters, until the Lord’s coming. See how the farmer waits for the land to yield its valuable crop, patiently waiting for the autumn and spring rains. You too, be patient and stand firm, because the Lord’s coming is near” (James 5:7-8).
Autumn is a beautiful time of year. The colorful fall leaves, the changing of the seasons, and the cooler weather are its hallmarks. However, the fall season can also bring many sad memories. My mom passed away in the fall, which changed the Autumn season for me. I still think Autumn is a beautiful season, but now there is pain that coexists with beauty.
Maybe fall brings you the same feelings. There is pain, but there is also beauty. As we prepare for Autumn, we need to reflect on all these feelings. We need to accept the pain and the beauty. This is something that I have had to do for many years. Autumn was once filled with joy, and now it is a reminder of tears and pain. I have learned that accepting the pain is part of the journey of moving forward.
God has been present with me through every struggle and hardship. He was beside me when my mom passed, and He continues to be beside me every day. This is one of God’s many promises to us: He will be wit

When a family steps out in faith to serve on the mission field, it can look sudden or even reckless to outsiders. Yet, as our daily prayer and devotional remind us, behind their decision is often years of prayer, discernment, and obedience to God’s calling. Their example reminds us of Paul’s humble request to the Thessalonians—not for money or comfort, but for prayer that the gospel would spread quickly and powerfully.
Missionaries—whether across the world or in our own communities—need prayer more than anything else. They face opposition, transition, and spiritual warfare, but also carry the beautiful calling of making Christ known. Our greatest support is to stand with them before the throne of God, asking Him to open hearts and prepare soil for the good news to take root.
As Paul reminds us, prayer fuels the advancement of the gospel. Today, let’s intercede for missionaries stepping onto the field, trusting that God’s Word will not return empty but accomplish His purposes.
Key Takeaways
Missionary work requires not only financial support but fervent, ongoing prayer.
Paul’s request for prayer in 2 Thessalonians shows us the true priority of gospel ministry.
God uses ordinary people, willing to say “yes,” to advance His kingdom.
Prayer paves the way for hearts to be opened and lives to be transformed by Christ.
Let’s Pray Together
Heavenly Father, we thank You for the missionaries who faithfully go where You call. We ask for Your protection, provision, and power over their lives. Open hearts to receive the gospel and strengthen missionaries with courage and perseverance. May Your Word spread quickly and be honored. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Calls to Action
Set aside time this week to pray by name for missionaries you know or for global missions in general.
Consider supporting missions with both prayer and tangible resources—time, finances, or encouragement.
Share this prayer with a missionary family as a reminder they are not forgotten.

Some conversations give life and hope, while others drain us and leave us weary. In this evening's prayer and devotional, we reflect on the fact that words can heal, but they can also wound. We’ve all experienced heavy conversations that linger in our hearts—moments when emotions ran high, tempers flared, or resolution felt out of reach.
Paul encouraged the believers in Colossae to let their speech be full of grace and seasoned with salt. This doesn’t mean ignoring difficult truths, but rather speaking them in love, aiming for healing instead of harm. Proverbs reminds us that words can pierce like swords, but the wise bring healing (Proverbs 12:18).
Even when conversations are hard, God invites us to surrender them to Him. We can ask Him to soften hearts, mend relationships, and teach us how to let grace shape our words. Instead of replaying the dialogue in frustration, we can release it into His care and allow Him to redeem what feels broken.
If you are carrying the weight of a heavy conversation tonight, know this: healing and peace are possible when we let God hold our words and hearts.
Tonight’s Scripture: Colossians 4:6
“Let your conversation be always full of grace, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how to answer everyone.”

Your Nightly Prayer
God of grace,
You know how complicated human relationships can be. The recent conversation I had weighs heavily on my heart. Please soften both of our hearts, mend what is fraying, and bring healing where words caused pain. Teach me to season my speech with grace and love so that my words reflect who I am in You. Help me surrender this conversation into Your hands and trust You to work in it for good.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Three Things to Meditate Upon
Isaiah 2:4: Picture weapons transformed into tools that bring life. How might this reshape the way you use your words?
Salt’s Role: Salt preserves, purifies, and flavors. In what ways can you bring this kind of “seasoning” to your speech?
Biblical Examples: Think of Nathan confronting David or Jesus rebuking Peter. How do these examples model both honesty and grace in heavy conversations?

Verse of the Day
2 Timothy 4:1-5 - In the presence of God and of Christ Jesus, who will judge the living and the dead, and in view of his appearing and his kingdom, I give you this charge: Preach the word; be prepared in season and out of season; correct, rebuke, and encourage—with great patience and careful instruction. For the time will come when people will not put up with sound doctrine. Instead, to suit their own desires, they will gather around them a great number of teachers to say what their itching ears want to hear. They will turn their ears away from the truth and turn aside to myths. But you, keep your head in all situations, endure hardship, do the work of an evangelist, and discharge all the duties of your ministry.
Pray at this moment for Charlie Kirk’s family, including Erica and the two young kids, as well as for his team and the country for strength and encouragement at this crucial time.
Praying for a revival among the young generation.

Today’s Bible Verse:
"But the people were thirsty for water there, and they grumbled against Moses. They said, 'Why did you bring us up out of Egypt to make us and our children and livestock die of thirst?'" — Exodus 17:3
In moments of pressure and need, our natural instinct is often to complain. The Israelites, thirsty and weary in the desert, questioned God’s plan and Moses’ leadership. Exodus 17:3 gives us a raw glimpse into human doubt and desperation—but it also points us to God’s faithfulness in meeting needs we can’t meet ourselves.

A Prayer to Bear Fruit
What does it truly mean to bear fruit? In today's prayer by Nicolet Bell we will uncover why “fruit” is singular and how the Spirit works holistically in our lives. It is a powerful reminder that abiding in Jesus is the only way to bear fruit that lasts.
Reference: John 15:5
Prayer: Father, reveal any areas of my life that aren’t bearing your fruit. Help me to submit to your careful and caring pruning hand. Help me to model this for my children. Empty me of myself and fill me with your Spirit, that I might bear your fruit.
