Marlon Martinez grew up in Cuba and dealt with the communist government and inability to rise above your station. After his parents emigrated to the USA, he saw the work ethic of his parents and how they adapted to their new life in order to provide for their family.

This gave him advantages that have been statistically proven by a recent study done showing that when comparing native US citizens in poverty against immigrants in the US, the amount of immigrants that become wealthy is almost double. So why is that?

Marlon followed the old American Dream playbook, went to college, racked up lots of student loans getting a Masters degree and then bought a home just before the recession in 2008.

Almost $500k in debt and battling thoughts of depression and suicide, he turned things around fought his way back. His systemic approach to making money and then managing it to become debt free in a few years is a masterclass in mindset and execution.

Now a millionaire, he discusses how lessons from his past led him to success and true wealth.

For my first interview ever, I brought on my wife, Lindsay Courson.

We discuss growing up in Wisconsin and the work ethic her parents instilled in her and her two sisters from an early age. Many of those lessons about the importance of hard work and education would follow her for the rest of her life.

After learning lessons about out-of-state tuition and racking up over $260,000 in student loans from going to med school and becoming a Physician Assistant (now called Physician Associate), she moved to Florida and began her career at a hospital.

Shortly thereafter, we began dating and our money mindsets clashed some. Despite falling in love quickly, we had to come up with a financial plan we could agree on before getting engaged. Many nervous conversations later, our future was cemented.

Lindsay found new perspectives on money and crushed her $260,000 in student loans in FOUR YEARS! That has enabled her and her family to build a dream home, travel and build true wealth.

Why are so many people making over $100,000 a year living paycheck to paycheck?

This is the end of the Millennial Lifestyle Subsidies. What does that mean? All the cheap services we have become hooked on for their superior quality and ease of use will no longer be cheaper than more traditional options.

AirBNB will continue to be just as or more expensive than hotels.

GrubHub will kill your wallet with delivery fees, taxes, and other fees that make it not worth using. In my opinion. 

This is true across the board for many other services and it's not because of a phase of everything being expensive.

It's because they have to start making money! Most of the companies are still losing money every quarter. There's a secret to doing that which is what we will go into on this podcast.
