  • Renowned Hair Stylist Sally Hershberger Strikes Gold
Beauty Mogul Sally Hershberger didn’t always want to do hair, but her famous friends had other plans, begging her to utilize those incomparable creative gifts. Fast-forward a few years and a gazillion amazing looks she created later, she owns her own salons in New York and LA and started a luxury skincare and haircare brand, which is pure gold (I mean, literally her haircare line is MADE with 24 Karat GOLD.) She dabbles in fashion and home design, she flips houses... (p.s. Jen Aniston bought one of them) and for years I’ve been asking stylists to cut my hair like one of her famous cuts, from the Winona pixie, to not one, but every Meg Ryan film she ever had her hands on. Finally, at long last, I got to work with the master herself; and she gave me the shag of my dreams. This is a LifeMinute with the one-and-only creative genius of all trades, Ms. Sally Hershberger.

  • Lynyrd Skynyrd’s Artimus Pyle Honors Bandmates 45 Years After Tragic Plane Crash
In October of ‘77, legendary Rock & Roll Hall of Fame drummer Artimus Pyle and his band Lynyrd Skynyrd boarded a plane on their way to a show that would have a fateful ending. Just a few miles from their destination, the plane, short on fuel, made an emergency landing that took the lives of six people, including founder and creative visionary Ronnie Van Zant, guitarist and co-writer Steve Gaines, and his sister, backup singer, Cassie Gaines. Forty-five years later, the man that gave Skynyrd that powerful and distinctive double bass drumming sound, Artimus Pyle, joined us at the LifeMinute studios to reminisce about his bandmates and tell us how he chooses to honor them today. He continues to play the music of Lynyrd Skynyrd with his Artimus Pyle Band and has written the film Street Survivors: The True Story of the Lynyrd Skynyrd Plane Crash to set the record straight on the events that happened. He’s also got a new album, Artimus Pyle And The Artimus Pyle Band Honors Ronnie Van Zant And Lynyrd Skynyrd, that’s due out next year—available for pre-order now at artimuspyleband.com.

  • INXS’s Andrew Farriss Embarks on New Musical Journey
He is co-founder and creative force behind the hugely popular international super group INXS who had their peak in the ‘80s and ‘90s with more than 50 million in album sales, seven US Top 10s, three Grammy nominations, and five MTV Music Awards, with hits “The One Thing,” “Original Sin,” “What You Need,” “New Sensation,” “Devil Inside,” “Never Tear Us Apart,” “Need You Tonight,” and so many more. Forty years later, the songs Andrew Farriss wrote are still getting their due, most recently from Dua Lipa and her 2020 mega-hit, "Break My Heart.” It uses the beat and melody of the INXS hit “Need You Tonight.” In the years since, having written and produced for an eclectic group of artists from Tom Jones to Alisan Porter, he’s come out with his first highly anticipated self-titled solo release, a beautiful Americana country album inspired by a trip to the outback and his love of American history, a shining example of the true depth and versatility of his talents. His accomplishments are vast. They include induction into the Australian Songwriter Hall of Fame and the Australian Recording Industry Association (ARIA) Hall of Fame. His journey has been a storied one starting down the music path at just 14 years old, first playing the piano and then moving to guitar. Farriss and his two brothers, Tim and Jon (who were also to become members of INXS), got their professional music start in Sydney, Australia, in 1977 with a group aptly named The Farriss Brothers. It was in high school when Andrew stepped in to prevent two bullies from picking on Michael Hutchence, that a strong bond, that would later turn into INXS, was born. INXS swiftly grew into one of the most popular bands of the era. It was then that the songwriting partnership of Farriss and Hutchence blossomed. Quickly outgrowing their regional popularity in Australia by 1983, INXS was one of the featured acts at the Steve Wozniak (Apple Computers co-founder) produced US Festival in southern California in front of an estimated 250,000 people. They remained in the stratosphere for the rest of the decade and well into the new one selling out arenas worldwide. After the tragic passing of frontman and cohort Michael Hutchence in 1997 at age 37, Farriss and INXS soldiered on with a new lead singer, Canadian, J.D. Fortune. The band decided to call it a day in 2012. We were fortunate to have Farriss visit our studios recently to tell us all about his new musical journey, reminisce about the past, and what’s coming next. This is a LifeMinute with Andrew Farriss.

  • The House That Mustaine Built
As an entrepreneur, I’d like to take a page out of Dave Mustaine’s life book. The metal mogul has not only managed to sell millions of albums honing a craft that he loves, but he’s also an enterprising genius, founding multiple brands, including his own beer Saison 13 À Tout le Monde and award-winning wine vineyards House of Mustaine. He’s also got signature guitar gear and is the author of three books. Nearly 40 years ago, he founded Megadeth after being unceremoniously given his walking papers as the original lead guitarist of Metallica, where he co-wrote many of the songs on the band’s albums Kill ‘Em All and Ride the Lightning. Since then, he has been unleashing his own precise and intense brand of thrash metal upon the world. In ‘94, he launched the first-ever official band website megadetrizona.com, which became a blueprint for millions of band sites that followed. More than 50 million albums sold, five consecutive platinum albums later, Mustaine has just released Megadeth’s 16th studio album, The Sick, The Dying... and the Dead!, their first since the 2016 Grammy-winning Dystopia, a welcome return to the band's earlier sounds, filled with intense riffs, killer guitar solos, eloquent lyricism, and that crystal clear Mustaine snarl that's as strong as ever, even through a cancer scare.Yes unfortunately, this mega-smart mega-mogul has also had his recent share of turmoil. In May 2019, he was diagnosed with throat cancer and underwent an intense battle and recovery. Then, of course, the pandemic would bring all recording and touring plans to a grinding halt. Refusing to let any of these hurdles stand in the way, this metal giant has persevered and proved his "mettle" not only as a musician but as a human being. Mustaine sat down with LifeMinute and shared his new perspective on life after his health scare, the joy he continues to find with his wife of 30 plus years and two children, the coming of this album, new band members, and his current tour with Five Finger Death Punch.

  • '80s Synth Pop Visionary Howard Jones Collects a Whole New Generation of Fans
Synth-pop/new wave stalwart Howard Jones has been churning out his unique brand of positive electronic music since 1983. The following year he released his first full-length album, Human's Lib, and scored two massive hits on both sides of the Atlantic right out of the gate with "What Is Love" and "New Song." He followed that up with Dream Into Action in 1985 and broke through in a major way with another impressive showing of no less than four huge hits, including "Things Can Only Get Better," "Life In One Day," "Like To Get To Know You Well," and "No One Is To Blame" which went to #1 in the U.S. That same year Jones famously performed "Hide and Seek" at Wembley Stadium in London during the famous Live Aid concert for African famine relief. To date, he's sold more than 8 million albums worldwide during his nearly 40-year career. We sat down with Jones recently to discuss his current tour with Midge Ure of Ultravox and Kajagoogoo's, Nick Beggs, and his new album, Dialogue. Much of the new music was conceived during Covid lockdown, but the lyrical content came afterward for fear of being a little too downbeat for his style. He has been releasing tracks from the forthcoming album on streaming services worldwide. Later this year, he will be releasing the album in full. Dialogue is number 3 in a set of 4 albums tied together thematically - Engage, Transform, Dialogue, and Global Citizen (coming in 2023). Jones says he's excited to reach a new generation of listeners, noticing younger faces in the crowd thanks to the inclusion of one of his greatest hits on the Season 3 soundtrack to the wildly successful Netflix series Stranger Things. He is currently on the road in Europe, with dates scheduled in the UK, Denmark, Sweden, Norway, and Germany through the end of November.
