Sally Mann is a fine art photographer that I connected with deeply after I moved away from my own family in the midwest to the opposite coast in California. I find her images comforting and relatable in that they speak of family and intimacy. However a result of this aesthetic was that she was accused of child pornography and racial insensitivity.

Robert Stivers was the first photographer I can remember seeing their images and being floored by them. As a young man in the midwest I was not even aware of photography as a fine art, and his work opened my eyes as to what that could mean. He inspired me to attempt to create images I had never imagined before through technique and meticulous planning.
