Lighthouse of Hope Church (LOH Church)

Who needs to hear the good news of the glorious help your Lord longs to give to them? Remain strong and do not be discouraged, for you are a child of God - "the perfect Father of every father and child in heaven and on the earth. And I pray that he would unveil within you the unlimited riches of his glory and favor until supernatural strength floods your innermost being with his divine might and explosive power." (Ephesians 3:15-16)

We conclude our series with one of the simplest - yet most powerful prayers.

"Our Father in heaven, hallowed be Your name, Your kingdom come, Your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us today our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one."

- Matthew 6:9-13

Who will go for us? Who will intercede for us? The power is the Lord's - but the sword is yours!

"Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying, "Whom shall I send? And who will go for us? And I said, "Here am I. Send me!""

- Isaiah 6:8

Over the past few weeks we’ve explored times to pray. Prayers of thanksgiving for the blessings of the Lord. Prayers of desperation in times of battle. And now - prayers of peace. When the world is losing its mind, set your mind on God’s peace.

“I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.”

- John 16:33

Fasting and prayer often go hand in hand. Jesus saw fasting as part of the Kingdom life with God. As we explored last week with prayer - fasting is not a HAVE to - but a GET to. Fasting is not a time to get things from God or even to get God to love you. It is a time to draw closer to Him - and to commune His spirit with yours.

“When you fast, do not look somber as the hypocrites do, for they disfigure their faces to show others they are fasting. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward in full. But when you fast, put oil on your head and wash your face, so that it will not be obvious to others that you are fasting, but only to your Father, who is unseen; and your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.”

- Matthew 6:16-18

There are times in the Bible when Abraham and David, prophets and kings, knew it was time to pray. In times of great calamity, God has empowered us with a tool to gather the might of Heaven. If you’ve ever asked yourself - how do I pray? The answer starts now.

“Consecrate a fast, proclaim a solemn assembly; gather the elders and all the inhabitants of the land to the house of the Lord your God, and cry out to the Lord. Alas for the day! For the day of the Lord is near…”

- Joel 1:15-16

'A minute on the lips, a lifetime on the hips.' When we sip the Kool-Aid, it is hard to think of anything but the sweetness. But flip to the back of the package and we are quickly reminded its lack of all nutritional value. How much more do our words and actions, spoken deliciously in the heat of the moment, wither from our mouths. In Ephesians, Paul tells us to "not let any unwholesome talk come out of [our] mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up..." (Eph 4:29) So we invite you this Sunday to join us and Don't Drink The Kool-Aid.

The destiny of God's gospel was to reach the nations. Paul was certain of this. Even from his prison cell, Paul spoke God's promise to raise leaders from unbelievers. Even in lockdown, we can be filled with the same joy and peace as Paul - for though the times may change, God is unchanging.

Look at the birds...No strife or fear. Why then should we worry? How much greater does our Heavenly Father care for us? Paul tells us to take heart.

For God, in his ethereal care and guidance over all time, and all creatures in it, is our PROVIDENCE.
