Who wants a beach vacation? It’s time for Weekend at Bernie’s (1989) and Weekend at Bernie’s II (1993).
It’s always best to avoid committing fraud with the corpse of your employer.
Larry and Richard (played by Andrew McCarthy and Jonathan Silverman) are two low level employees at an insurance agency who find their boss Bernie (Terry Kiser) dead in his Hamptons home. Instead of …you know, reporting it or anything, they proceed to carry him around and prop him up in ridiculous spots in order to pretend he’s still alive, all while the Mob is trying to “kill” Bernie.

Movie description: Down on his luck Seymour works at a rundown flower shop, but when he discovers a strange plant, he has the best opportunity to bring tons of business to the shop and win the heart of the girl he adores. Too bad the plant starts to wilt until he realizes the one thing the plant needs and demands to survive – is blood.
The Little Shop of Horrors (1960) is a low budget comedy horror film directed by Roger Corman. The film was produced in an extremely short amount of time (two days!) and reused sets from a previous film production.
Little Shop of Horrors (1986) is a musical comedy horror film directed by Frank Oz starring Rick Moranis and Ellen Greene. Ellen reprised her role from the musical play that preceded this film. When the original ending tested poorly with test audiences, a more bucolic happy ending was filmed instead.
Seymour: “I don’t know anyone who deserves to be chopped up and fed to a hungry
plant!”
Audrey II: “Sure you do!”

Movie description: A psychologist is sent to a station orbiting the planet Solaris to investigate what has led to the crew to lose their minds.
Solaris (1972) was a book adaptation, but that also led to contention between the director of the film Andrei Tarkovsky and the book’s author Stanislav Lem. Some ideas work better in a literary medium, and some work better as a visual.
Andrei Tarkovsky: “If I can’t make a long boring film, I’ll shoot myself.”
Solaris (2002) was directed by Steven Soderbergh.
Steven Soderbergh allegedly said, “If the audience does not enjoy the first 10 minutes of the film then they might as well leave.”

On each episode we’ll look at a movie and its remake, or sometimes a movie and its sequel, to determine if Hollywood rehashed it for a reason or for a cash grab.
We start with an introduction to podcast hosts Erica Strout and Bridget LaMonica. We talk about why we wanted to do a podcast (when everyone and their mother seemed to be making a podcast), comfort and guilt watching movies, and why we have varying viewpoints on a film like Midsommar.
