With the announcement of a new D&D adventure book, The Candlekeep Mysteries scheduled to come out this spring, we stop to have a quick look at the lore surrounding Candlekeep and find out why it attracts knowledge seekers like moths to a flame.
Candlekeep Mysteries is a collection of seventeen short, stand-alone D&D adventures designed for characters of levels 1-16. Each adventure begins with the discovery of a book, and each book is the key to a door behind which danger and glory await. These adventures can be run as one-shot games, plugged into an existing Forgotten Realms campaign, or adapted for other campaign settings.
We talk about the price of admission: a rare book or scroll that the library doesn't yet have. And we talk about some of our favourite in-game tomes that might get us through the gates of Candlekeep.
We also discuss group Patrons and how to run one from a library -- any library. We share some thoughts on other great libraries across the D&D universe.

Right now, DMs are out there planning for something for their next session. They making maps, building encounters, and weaving intricate plots. There are also DMs who are stressed out because they don't have enough time to put together all that great stuff. If you ever feel like the latter, we are here to offer some comfort: have a few handy random tables in your pocket, and trust in your improv skills.
We look at our own habits in terms of what we prep, and over-prep. And the we crack open our new copy of Table Fables II and roll some dice. We'll show you how in just minutes you can whip up a setting, scene or encounter. We also talk about the advantages of going with 'Theatre of the Mind' instead of battlemaps.

As part of a New Year Resolution to try new things in D&D, we have been making characters we wouldn't normally make, starting with a Druid-Warlock. It's a strange combo, but with a little creativity, we've come up with a cool pirate build for your next Swordcoast adventure. Or if you are looking to push the boundraies of all that is magically possible, we have a cleric-wizard that Jack recently tested in a one-shot game.
As usual, we do everything we can to work against trope and find a way to bring something original to the characters, and hopefully something more interesting to the games they are in. We encourage you to steal as much as you want from these builds.

It's important that we start the New Year off on the right foot, so we are setting our sights on some goals for the new year: which classes to play that we haven't given a chancve to, which races could we try that we've never tried before, how to play more with more people, and how far should we puch our mini collection?
Join us this week for some inspiration to set your 2021 goals for your best year of D&D ever.

This week we make our list a check it twice, finding out which magic items are naughty or nice -- it's like a holiday gift guide for all those DMs out there who don't know what to give their players...or for the players who don't know what to ask for this mid-winter festival.
We look at some new items that have just been released in Tasha's, as well as classics that have brought us joy for many, many years. From armor to wands, rods to carpets, from potions to tattoos, there's bound to be something here for every adventurer.

As more and more of us find our way to online games of D&D, we need to look for the best practices that unlock the best experience possible. From camera tips to virtual table top ettiquette, this week we count down out top tips for being a good, maybe even great, virtual adventurer.

In a time when more and more of us are increasingly playing online, we've noticed a deminishing amout of roleplay -- both in our own online games, and the ones we watch online. The advent of virtual table tops has brought combat to forefront of many games. And while that is fun, it's only one of D&D's three pilars. So we ask ourselves, how do we bring back more of the roleplay element that we felt at the physical table.
And as we looked at this problem, we noticed one crutch that we all seem to be leaning on, both veteran players and noobs alike: too many Ability Checks. Ability Checks for everything. Ability Checks that slow, and often derail, the flow of the story.
This week we take a look at how as a DM (and players) we can choose to make fewer calls for skill tests, and instead use those moments of the game to do more roleplay. We look at reducing how often the dice decide (and derail) the story, and how to use Ability Checks best when conflict demands it.

Tired of the same old boring spells.? Frustrated that your DM prohibits all UA content. Well get ready you fancy wizard paper and magic ink, because this week we look at the spells made official in the recent release of Tasha's Cauldron of Everything. Spells so good, you'll want to copy them out twice.

In this second part of our special two-part episode, we look back at the UA documents and compare what we have been playtesting with what is now official content in Tasha's Cauldron of Everything. We look at what got changed, some for the better and some for the worse. What got added that wasn't in the playtest material, and some of our favourite things that just didn't make the cut.
This is Part 2 of a special two-part series this week. For maximum enjoyment (unless you prefer leaping around the multiverse like a time traveller) start with part 1, then come back here.
