In these stories, Chiang explores topics of free will and what it means to be human in stories dealing with multiple universes, memory machines, self brain surgery, AI pets, and giant time travel hoops.

They say that limitations breed creativity and poverty is definitely a long lasting limitation for many. What comes from it creatively may very from person to person, but everyone has to eat.
