Spiritual Gifts Pt.2

Spiritual gifts are given from God to enable saints to uplift and support the body of Christ. Gifts such as prophecy,healings,teaching and helping are just a few of many that are exercised  in the church today. However we must be careful not become boastful,or even entertain ideas that may lead us to forget the source of those gifts.

Concerning Spiritual Gifts
1 Corinthians 12
12 Now about the gifts of the Spirit, brothers and sisters, I do not want you to be uninformed. 2 You know that when you were pagans, somehow or other you were influenced and led astray to mute idols. 3 Therefore I want you to know that no one who is speaking by the Spirit of God says, “Jesus be cursed,” and no one can say, “Jesus is Lord,” except by the Holy Spirit. 4 There are different kinds of gifts, but the same Spirit distributes them. 5 There are different kinds of service, but the same Lord. 6 There are different kinds of working, but in all of them and in everyone it is the same God at work. 7 Now to each one the manifestation of the Spirit is given for the common good.8 To one there is given through the Spirit a message of wisdom, to another a message of knowledge by means of the same Spirit, 9 to another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healing by that one Spirit, 10 to another miraculous powers, to another prophecy, to another distinguishing between spirits, to another speaking in different kinds of tongues,[a] and to still another the interpretation of tongues.[b] 11 All these are the work of one and the same Spirit, and he distributes them to each one, just as he determines.

Acts 3:1-7

Healing the Lame Beggar

3 Now Peter and John were going up to the temple at the [a]ninth hour, the hour of prayer. 2 And a man who had been lame from his mother’s womb was being carried along, whom they used to set down every day at the gate of the temple which is called Beautiful, in order to beg [b]alms of those who were entering the temple. 3 When he saw Peter and John about to go into the temple, he began asking to receive alms. 4 But Peter, along with John, fixed his gaze on him and said, “Look at us!” 5 And he began to give them his attention, expecting to receive something from them. 6 But Peter said, “I do not possess silver and gold, but what I do have I give to you: In the name of Jesus Christ the Nazarene—walk!” 7 And seizing him by the right hand, he raised him up; and immediately his feet and his ankles were strengthened.

Throughout this message series entitled Great Expectations. Pastor Hornbuckle expounded on the words that Jesus spoke to Peter in which he called (cephas) the rock. At the time when Jesus spoke those words to him.Peter was no where near the Great Expectations that God had in store for him.He would later walk water,deny knowing jesus,and then cut off a soldier ear in defense of Jesus. Zechariah 4:10 states it well by saying  Do not despise these small beginnings. Come Let’s join Pastor Hornbuckle as he concludes with of this message series.

Inspite of Peter’s many shortcoming. Jesus knew the final outcome that was in store for him.As believers it’s important to understand that we will make mistakes,however we cannot allow those mistakes to difine or determine who we are in Christ. Prayer is our direct and honest communication with God. As believers we may face situations that appear to be hopeless and even impossible to overcome. In the midst of those trials is where find out that prayer changes things..
