Welcome back to Lima Charlie NatSec! In episode 2, host Michael Gardner is back with U.S. Navy CAPT (Ret.) Gail Harris to discuss the timely topic of cyber security. They begin with a discussion of CAPT Harris' article on the DNC hack, and whether it was a security "game-changer" in the mold of Pearl Harbor and 9/11. They discuss how the DNC incident was a clear national threat, but may not be taken seriously due to the political firestorm that could arise. They then discuss the difference between cyber attacks being seen as espionage and intelligence preparation of the battlefield, and problems with attribution, even with the massive "WannaCry" malware attack. Finally, CAPT Harris discusses some ways everyone can become more educated about cyber threats, and what to do to counter them.

  • Lima Charlie Sports S02 E04
Lima Charlie Sports is back! After a brief hiatus and completely ignoring topics like the NBA playoffs and the Stanley Cup, Mike and Steph link back up to talk about athlete weight issues, healthy eating, and food culture. They rehash a recent ESPNW article about weight pressures on female crew athletes, and Steph lends some expertise about how different weight classes contribute to the pressures. They discuss how sports like boxing, MMA, and crew with a defined weight limit are similar to the experience of dreading getting “taped” for weigh-ins in the military, and discuss what institutions can do to contribute to more healthy environments for athletes to balance competition and health. Also, hold your breath until the end, Mike and Steph actually agree on something!

  • Lima Charlie MENA Report - APR15
Lima Charlie News MENA Report covers Middle East / North Africa developments as reported by Lima Charlie's MENA Bureau. This week, MENA Bureau Chief John Sjoholm and LC Editor-in-Chief Anthony LoPresti discuss John's new article titled "The Shifting Sands of the Dictator." John makes a compelling argument that, essentially, the Middle East is not ready for true democracy, and Western/U.S. policy should be, as it has been in the past, the support of autocratic regimes to maintain stability while providing an environment favorable to a developing democracy. In other words, Democracy vs. Dictatorship. The team discusses the Arab Spring, and the events that led to, and followed the Jan. 2011 protests in Tahrir Square, Egypt; the downfall of President Hosni Mubarak, and the power vacuum that resulted, leading to the rise of Salafist Jihadism and ISIS in the Sinai Peninsula. John also discusses and cites to Jordan and King Abdullah as examples of what works in the Middle East. Lastly, the question is asked: Does America need to apologize for supporting Middle Eastern dictators, beginning with the policies of the Eisenhower administration? Or, did the end justify the means?
