Liminal Writing's second season begins with an episode inspired from a quote by Joseph Campbell from his book "Reflections on the Art of Living". Listen to how this quote about one's sacred space sparks us to write about beauty, breathe, bliss, and defining our worth.

In this episode, Ces and Lee write about one of the great gifts bestowed upon us - the symphony of sensations. After reading their works, they discuss celebrating the joy of experiencing life through the five senses (or do we have six?) ... the true essence of being alive.

It is said that a third of our lives is spent at work, a significant amount of time invested on matters that drives us, challenges us, at times frustrates us, and hopefully fulfills us. So if a day comes where we find ourselves sitting in a park, enjoying the sun on our skin, and a child unhampered from the worries of the world asks what we do for a living, here 's what we got to say...

An evocative reflection on the essence of being truly alive. we write and talk about having the freedom to make personal choices, finding joy in words and actions, celebrating the simple, and capturing the beauty of our existence (from living in the Philippines, the UK, and Canada), and the love we have for those who matter.

Ces and Lee sparked this episode's writing with a line from Pablo Neruda, one of the most influential poets of the 20th century. Their conversation moves from loss, to learning and accepting their loved ones' way of loving, and treasuring the loves they now have.

Elbert Hubbard once wrote, "God will not look you over for medals, degrees, or diplomas. But for scars." With this line as the spark.

Ces and Lee write about the weight of medals, degrees, diplomas, and the striving and achievements brought about by their absence. The conversation takes us to their university days, their early work milieu, having to carry on despite self-doubt, and finally finding one's light.

A quote from the poet Audre Lorde brings Ces and Lee to write about defining one's self with certainty whilst transforming society's frame to fit ourselves fully and authentically. Ces says "its being a circle in a stiffened square". We talk about our childhood, transgender elders, and the comfort and possibilities offered by books.

This episode bring our writing to the places - physically, mentally, emotionally - where we were at the beginning the pandemic. We talk about the uncertainty, the worries, the challenges as well as the positive things that arose from 2020.
