He uses his experiences with the ugliness of the disability hierarchy that was rampant in the disability rights movement to demonstrate why ranking each other’s experiences by degree of trial is unhealthy. As a young advocate, he was told, “You only have cerebral palsy. You don’t truly understand discrimination.” Is that true? Tune in and learn how the “woe is me” game helps no one to overcome trials. Suffering helps us love others in trials or write them off because they don’t suffer like us.

In today’s episode, Pastor Mike talks about why parents need to get mentors for their children with disabilities. Sharing more about how his uncle, who was a paraplegic, mentor Mike to never give up. Also, Pastor Mike shares more about the mentors he had on his first job. His fellow advocates gave him permission to fail and grow. Many young people with disabilities fail to get this opportunity but mentors can change that.

In today’s episode Pastor Mike explores from Scripture why Christians with disabilities need to find identity in Christ and not their disability. Our disabilities might be a chapter of our life’s story, but it’s not the whole book.

Due to physical limitations, I may never be able to fix a car, but I can lead my family spiritually. I can be a man of God and show my son how to be a man that honors Christ.
