    AED(Automated External Defibrillator)，稱為「自動體外心臟電擊去顫器」，是一台能夠自動偵測傷病患心律脈搏、並施以電擊使心臟恢復正常運作的儀器，因為使用的方式相當容易，開啟機器時會有語音說明其使用方式，並有圖示輔助說明，就像使用「傻瓜相機」一樣簡單，所以，坊間稱之為「傻瓜電擊器」。
    搶救突發性心跳停止的傷病患，一方面要趕快施行CPR（心肺復甦術），進行胸外按壓，使血液持續循環，提供身體重要器官氧氣、另一方面則需要利用電擊器進行去顫，使心臟恢復正常跳動。所以，我們可以說，CPR與AED電擊是相輔相成的救命搭檔。

    到院前心肺功能停止（Out-of-hospital cardiac arrest，簡稱 OHCA），原稱到院前死亡（英語：Dead on arrival，簡寫 D.O.A.）是一個醫學術語，泛指病患在送達醫院的急診室前已出現死亡的症狀，例如心肺功能停止。
    Out-of-hospital cardiac arrestis defined as the sudden absence of cardiac mechanical contractility with loss of signs of circulation that occurs within a community setting. OHCA affects more than half a million patients globally per year and is one the leading causes of death in developing countries. In the US, OHCA affects 350,000 patients per year and is the third leading cause of death. In the UK, the Ambulance Association reported that there were nearly 60,000 cases of OHCA in 2006, with cardiopulmonary resuscitation attempted in less than half these patients.

    I’m pretty much fucked.
    That’s my considered opinion.
    Fucked.
    Six days in to what should be a greatest two months of my life, and
    it’s turned in to a nightmare.
    I don’t even know who’ll read this. I guess someone will find it
    eventually. Maybe a hundred years from now.
    For the record… I didn’t die on Sol 6. Certainly the rest of the crew
    thought I did, and I can’t blame them. Maybe there’ll be a day of national
    mourning for me, and my Wikipedia page will say “Mark Watney is the
    only human being to have died on Mars.”
    And it’ll be right, probably. Cause I’ll surely die here. Just not on Sol
    6 when everyone thinks I did.
