  • You're Not the Problem: How Your Nervous System Shapes Your Behavior with Lori Montry

Somatic healing practitioner Lori Montry explains why emotional eating, anxiety, overthinking, and people-pleasing aren't personal failures but adaptive survival responses. Learn how understanding your nervous system can help you create lasting change with greater self-compassion and ease.

In this enlightening episode of Linda's Corner, Linda talks with Lori Montry, somatic healing practitioner, author of You're Not the Problem, and creator of the Nervous System Freedom Formula. Drawing from her background in law, neuroscience, stress physiology, and somatic healing, Lori helps people understand the hidden forces driving behaviors such as emotional eating, overthinking, overachieving, people-pleasing, and anxiety.

Lori shares her own journey of struggling with anxiety, emotional eating, and the relentless pressure to perform. After years of trying mindset work and self-discipline, she realized that true change couldn't happen while her nervous system was still carrying unresolved patterns of protection. This discovery led her to explore somatic and trauma-informed healing modalities and ultimately develop the framework she teaches today.

One of the most powerful insights from this conversation is the idea that humans are experts at adaptation. We adapt our thoughts, behaviors, beliefs, and nervous systems in response to our experiences. Rather than viewing our struggles as evidence that something is wrong with us, Lori invites us to see them as creative survival strategies that once served an important purpose. When we remove shame and self-judgment, we create space for growth and healing.

Lori explains that lasting transformation begins by identifying a pattern, understanding the need beneath it, and creating the internal conditions of safety, capacity, and energy that allow new behaviors to emerge naturally. Instead of fighting against ourselves, we can learn to work with our nervous system and give it what it truly needs.

This conversation is not just for people who identify as having experienced significant trauma. Lori emphasizes that none of us need to "qualify" for healing or personal growth. Every person is worthy of creating a life they love, and every person can benefit from understanding how their nervous system influences their daily experience.

If you've ever felt stuck, frustrated by repeating patterns, or discouraged by personal growth efforts that didn't seem to work, this episode offers a compassionate and empowering new perspective. You are not broken. You adapted. And if you can adapt once, you can adapt again.

  • Healing from Trauma and Breaking the Silence with Alreen Haeggquist

Trauma thrives in silence, but healing begins when we find the courage to speak.

In this powerful episode of Linda’s Corner Podcast, Linda sits down with Alreen Haeggquist—attorney, author, advocate, and survivor—to discuss the lifelong impact of abuse, the courage it takes to break generational cycles, and the path toward healing.

Alreen shares her deeply personal story of surviving sexual, physical, and emotional abuse at the hands of her father while enduring the painful silence of a mother who knew but felt powerless to intervene. Living in fear and shame, Alreen carried the weight of her trauma for years, battling depression and multiple suicide attempts before ultimately finding a way forward.

Drawing from both her personal journey and more than two decades of legal advocacy for women facing sexual harassment, discrimination, and abuse, Alreen offers hope and practical guidance for anyone seeking healing. She explains why silence protects abusers, how trauma can be passed from one generation to the next, and the four essential steps that helped her reclaim her life.

Whether you are a survivor yourself, love someone who is struggling, or simply want to better understand the healing process, this conversation is filled with compassion, courage, and hope.

    About Alreen Haeggquist

Alreen Haeggquist is a seasoned attorney, author, and advocate dedicated to helping women find their voice and seek justice. As the founder of Haeggquist & Eck, LLP in San Diego, she has spent more than 21 years representing victims of sexual harassment, discrimination, and abuse, securing millions of dollars on behalf of her clients. Her book, Fired Up: Fueling Triumph from Trauma, shares her personal journey from victim to advocate and her mission to break the cycle of silence surrounding abuse.

What You’ll Learn in This Episode

    • How childhood trauma can shape our beliefs, behaviors, and relationships
    • The damaging effects of silence around abuse
    • Why breaking generational patterns of trauma matters
    • The difference between escaping abuse and healing from its effects
    • Four practical steps for beginning the healing journey
    • How to identify a meaningful "why" that motivates change
    • Why building a support team is critical for recovery
    • How speaking out can help both survivors and future victims
    • The connection between shame, secrecy, and emotional suffering
    • Why healing is possible, even after years of pain

Four Steps to Healing from Trauma

According to Alreen, healing begins with these four powerful steps:

    1. Take Inventory – Recognize your strengths and acknowledge what you've already overcome.
    2. Find Your Why – Connect to a purpose bigger than your pain, whether it's protecting others, ending a cycle, or creating a better future.
    3. Set an Intention – Define what healing looks like for you and where you want your life to go.
    4. Gather Your Team – Surround yourself with supportive people and professionals who can help you move forward.

    Key Takeaway

"Silence is the biggest gaslight of all."

When abuse remains hidden, it often sends the message that what happened wasn't serious or that it should simply be endured. Alreen reminds us that speaking up is not only an act of personal healing—it can also become a lifeline for others. By breaking the silence, survivors reclaim their power and help create a safer path for those who come after them.

  • What If the Story You Believe Isn’t True? Misunderstanding, Despair & Healing

What if some of the pain we carry isn't only about what happened to us—but about the story we created around what happened?

In this deeply personal solo episode, Linda shares how a season of profound despair led her to question some of the beliefs she held about God, herself, and her circumstances. What she discovered became an important part of her healing: sometimes the beliefs underneath our pain aren't actually true.

Linda explores the connection between misunderstanding and despair and shares stories from the scriptures, along with a surprising and painful experience involving The Chosen, that helped her recognize beliefs she didn't even realize she was carrying.

One of those beliefs was essentially:

God loves His children... except me.

    People can heal... except me.

Things can get better... except for me.

Those hidden “except me” beliefs can shape how we interpret our experiences and can leave us feeling rejected, hopeless, stuck, or alone.

But what if the story we're telling ourselves isn't true?

Linda invites you to consider a different question when you find yourself discouraged or struggling:

“What am I believing that might not actually be true?”

This isn't about pretending painful experiences didn't happen or simply thinking positively. It's about becoming aware of the beliefs we've attached to those experiences, questioning what we've been telling ourselves, and making room for a truer and healthier perspective.

    In this episode, Linda explores:

    • How misunderstanding can contribute to despair
    • The difference between what happens to us and what we believe it means
    • The hidden stories we may carry about ourselves, God, and our circumstances
    • How “except me” beliefs can keep us stuck
    • Why becoming aware of our beliefs can be an important part of healing
    • How questioning an old story can open the door to hope and possibility
    • A simple question you can use to begin uncovering beliefs that may no longer serve you

You don't have to solve everything today.

Instead, think of one area of your life where you feel discouraged, stuck, hopeless, or in despair.

    Then ask:

What am I believing about this situation—or about myself—that might not actually be true?

Bring it into the light. Question it. And then ask:

    “What might be more true?”

Because sometimes healing begins when we discover that the story we've been living with isn't the whole story.

  • Leadership Beyond Logic: Unlocking the Third Element with Randy Lyman

The Missing Key to Leadership: Why Emotional Awareness Changes Everything with Randy Lyman

Learn more about Randy at: RandyLyman.com

What if the secret to better leadership, stronger teams, and greater success isn't working harder—but becoming more emotionally aware? In this episode, leadership coach, strategist, speaker, and author Randy Lyman shares why effective leadership requires qualities many people mistakenly label as "feminine," including compassion, empathy, vulnerability, and emotional intelligence. Randy explains how unresolved emotional wounds can drive overachievement, create burnout, and limit success, while emotional healing can unlock extraordinary growth in both business and life.

Randy Lyman is an engineer, physicist, leadership coach, strategist, speaker, and author of The Third Element. He helps leaders identify hidden emotional patterns that impact their performance, relationships, and organizations. Through his unique approach, Randy teaches leaders how emotional awareness, trust, and authenticity create thriving teams and sustainable success.

Many leadership conversations focus on strategy, systems, and performance, but Randy believes there is a critical piece that often gets overlooked: emotions.

For years, Randy intentionally disconnected from his emotions because he believed they would interfere with success. Eventually, however, he discovered that emotions influence our decisions, behaviors, relationships, and results whether we acknowledge them or not.

Randy shared his perspective on the Law of Attraction. While many people focus on thoughts and actions, he realized there was a missing component—unprocessed emotions. Once he began identifying and releasing trapped emotional patterns, he experienced a dramatic transformation and scaled his business by 30 times.

We also discussed how overachievement is often fueled by emotional wounds. Randy shared a powerful story from his youth when a family member compared him unfavorably to a friend. That seemingly simple comment created a deep desire to prove himself. While that emotional wound initially fueled achievement, it eventually became limiting. Randy describes this pattern as throwing an anchor ahead of yourself—it may pull you forward for a while, but eventually it prevents further progress.

Randy explained that emotions are meant to move through us. Because emotions are experienced in the body, suppressing or avoiding them doesn't eliminate them—it simply causes them to remain stuck, influencing our behavior until they are processed and released.

One of the most fascinating parts of our conversation focused on leadership. Randy teaches that qualities often labeled as "feminine"—compassion, empathy, nurturing, and emotional awareness—are actually some of the most powerful leadership tools available.

He explained that teams naturally mirror the emotional state of their leader. Leaders who rely on fear, criticism, or intimidation create environments where people feel unsafe, causing creativity, engagement, and productivity to suffer. In contrast, leaders who create psychological safety inspire trust, loyalty, and greater performance.

According to Randy, every team member has three fundamental needs:

    • Acknowledgement – People need to feel seen, valued, and appreciated.
    • Contribution – People need to know their work matters.
    • Belonging – People need to feel connected and included.

When leaders meet these needs, trust grows and teams perform at a much higher level.

We also talked about vulnerability and why admitting mistakes is not a sign of weakness. Early in his career, Randy believed leaders were supposed to have all the answers. Over time, he discovered that admitting when you're wrong actually strengthens trust and credibility. Authenticity creates connection, and connection creates influence.

    Key Takeaways

    • Unprocessed emotions often influence our success (or lack of success) more than we realize.
    • Overachievement is frequently driven by unresolved emotional wounds.
    • Emotions are meant to move through us, not be suppressed.
    • Psychological safety is essential for healthy, productive teams.
    • Acknowledgement, contribution, and belonging are core human needs.
    • Trust is the foundation of effective leadership.
    • Vulnerability and admitting mistakes increase credibility rather than diminish it.
    •  Compassion and emotional intelligence are leadership strengths, not weaknesses.

  • MindFlow: The Power of Emotional Literacy with Sarah Bjork

What if one of the keys to better relationships, healthier communication, and greater emotional well-being is simply learning how to identify and name what you’re feeling?

In this episode, I’m talking with Sarah Bjork, creator of MindFlow, about emotional literacy and why understanding our emotions is such an important foundation for emotional regulation and emotional intelligence.

Sarah became interested in emotional literacy after seeing firsthand how difficult it can be for adults who were never taught how to recognize or express their emotions. She also became especially interested in the subject while raising two young sons and noticing how frequently parenting resources emphasized the importance of helping children develop emotional awareness.

Sarah explains the difference between emotional literacy and emotional intelligence. Emotional literacy is the ability to recognize, understand, and accurately label our emotions. Emotional intelligence builds on that foundation, helping us use emotional awareness to make decisions, manage relationships, communicate effectively, and navigate social situations.

We talk about why simply putting words to an emotion can change the way we experience it, why suppressing emotions doesn't make them disappear, and how unrecognized emotions can affect our relationships, communication, and overall well-being.

Sarah also shares the story behind MindFlow, an app she created to make emotional processing simple and accessible. Using a four-step process, MindFlow helps users identify an emotion, understand its intensity, express it through brief journaling or drawing, and then decide whether they want to hold onto it or release it. The app also keeps a record of your emotional journey, which can help you notice patterns over time or provide information to discuss with a therapist or other professional.

Whether you're trying to better understand yourself, improve your relationships, communicate more effectively, or help your children develop healthy emotional skills, this conversation offers practical ideas for becoming more emotionally literate.

In this episode, we talk about:

    • What emotional literacy is and why it matters
    • The difference between emotional literacy and emotional intelligence
    • Why identifying and naming emotions can help us process them
    • What happens when we continually suppress or ignore our emotions
    • How emotional awareness can affect relationships and communication
    • Why many people struggle to find the words to describe what they feel
    • Alexithymia and difficulty identifying or describing emotions
    • The power of affect labeling
    • The connection between emotional literacy and emotional regulation
    • How parents can help children develop emotional awareness
    • The four-step process behind the MindFlow app
    • Using journaling and drawing to express emotions

  • Stephanie Hazard - Making Sobriety Stick

Healing Your Relationship with Food, Alcohol, and Yourself with Stephanie Hazard

Many of us turn to food, alcohol, or other coping mechanisms when life feels overwhelming. But what if those behaviors aren't signs of weakness or failure? What if they're actually attempts to feel safe?

In this insightful episode, Linda sits down with recovery coach, speaker, and author Stephanie Hazard to discuss healing our relationship with food, alcohol, and ourselves. Stephanie shares her personal journey, which began at age 11 when she went on her first diet after years of teasing and comparing herself to her mother, a model and actress. What started as a desire to be accepted eventually developed into an eating disorder and later struggles with alcohol.

Stephanie explains that addictions and unhealthy behaviors often serve an important purpose, even when we're not consciously aware of it. At their core, they help regulate our nervous system and create a sense of safety. Whether it's controlling food intake, drinking alcohol, or engaging in other compulsive behaviors, these actions are often attempts to soothe emotional distress and regain a sense of control.

Drawing from Polyvagal Theory, Stephanie explains how our nervous system constantly scans for safety or danger. When we understand these biological responses, we can approach recovery with greater compassion and effectiveness. Rather than asking, "What's wrong with me?" we can begin asking, "What happened to me?" and "What do I need to feel safe enough?"

During this conversation, Stephanie also clarifies the difference between coping mechanisms and coping skills. While coping mechanisms often help us avoid, numb, or escape uncomfortable emotions, coping skills help us build a healthier, more fulfilling life.

In recognition of National Recovery Month, Stephanie shares her own recovery journey and discusses the many resources available to support healing. She describes recovery as a "stew" made up of many helpful ingredients, including therapy, support groups, recovery coaching, breathwork, community, and self-awareness. She emphasizes that recovery is not one-size-fits-all and encourages each person to define what recovery means for them.

Whether you're navigating challenges with food, alcohol, or any other unhealthy coping pattern, this episode offers hope, practical tools, and a compassionate reminder that recovery is about much more than quitting a behavior—it's about creating a life that feels meaningful, connected, and joyful.

    About Stephanie Hazard

Stephanie Hazard is a Certified Recovery Coach, Certified Peer Recovery Specialist, Certified Eating Disorder Recovery Coach, speaker, and author of Making Sobriety Stick. She specializes in helping individuals heal from eating disorders, alcohol dependency, and other addictive behaviors through trauma-informed and polyvagal-informed approaches.

    Key Takeaways

    • Addictions often develop as attempts to create safety and regulate the nervous system.
    • Food and alcohol are frequently used to soothe emotional discomfort rather than satisfy physical needs.
    • Polyvagal Theory helps explain why we react differently depending on whether we feel safe, threatened, or overwhelmed.
    • Recovery begins with compassion and understanding, not shame and self-criticism.
    • Coping mechanisms numb or avoid difficult emotions; coping skills help create a healthier life.
    • Recovery looks different for everyone and should be tailored to individual goals and values.
    • Being "alcohol-free" can feel more empowering and intentional than viewing recovery as restriction.
    • Healing involves reconnecting with yourself, your body, and supportive relationships.
    • Breathwork, active listening, and nervous system regulation can be powerful tools for recovery.

  • Feel Good in Your Body: Breaking Free from Shame-Based Fitness with Tyler Bramlett

Feel good in and about your body. Tyler Bramlett shares how to break free from toxic fitness culture, improve mobility and strength, and build a healthier relationship with your body through small, consistent habits that create lasting change.

In this episode of Linda's Corner, movement coach, father, podcast host, and WeShape co-founder Tyler Bramlett shares a refreshing and empowering perspective on fitness, body image, and long-term health. Coach Tyler challenges the shame-based messages that dominate much of the fitness industry and explains why true wellness begins when we stop tying our worth to our appearance.

Coach Tyler shares his personal journey of recovery after being hit by a car as a teenager and later experiencing another serious injury that required him to learn how to walk again. During those difficult seasons, he gained a deep appreciation for what his body could do rather than how it looked. That experience transformed his understanding of health, movement, and self-worth.

Together, we discuss how many people spend years criticizing their bodies and believing they'll finally be happy once they reach a certain weight, size, or fitness level—only to discover that self-criticism doesn't disappear when the goal is achieved. Coach Tyler explains why we must "unlearn" toxic fitness and diet culture and replace it with a healthier approach focused on function, strength, mobility, and feeling good.

Tyler also introduces his simple framework for creating lasting change. The ABCs stand for Act on Basics Consistently, while the 1-2-3 method encourages us to:

    1. Become aware
    2. Pause
    3. Rewrite or replace unhealthy habits and movement patterns

He shares practical examples of how small adjustments in everyday movement can strengthen the body, reduce pain, and improve mobility over time.

    We also discuss:

    • Why shame is such a powerful force in the fitness industry
    • How body image affects mental and emotional well-being
    • The difference between exercising for punishment versus self-care
    • Why "no pain, no gain" can be a harmful mindset
    • How consistency beats intensity for long-term success
    • The importance of strength, flexibility, coordination, and mobility
    • Why patience is essential when creating lasting change
    • How small daily habits can dramatically improve your quality of life

Through WeShape, Tyler helps people build personalized movement routines that focus on restoring strength, improving mobility, reducing aches and pains, and helping people feel confident in their bodies again. His message is simple but powerful: the goal isn't perfection—it's longevity, function, and feeling good.

    Key Takeaway
Your body's value is not determined by its appearance. When you stop trying to punish your body and start learning how to support it, movement becomes something you enjoy rather than something you endure. Real transformation happens through small, consistent actions practiced over time.

  • Listen Someone Into Existence with Affect Labeling - Doug Noll

Award-winning mediator and TEDx speaker Doug Noll reveals a simple communication technique that can calm anger, resolve conflict, and strengthen relationships in seconds. Discover why the words "You feel..." may be the most powerful phrase you'll ever use.

Doug Noll is an award-winning mediator, bestselling author, TEDx speaker, creator of the Noll Method™, and founder of the Prison of Peace program. After spending 22 years as a successful trial lawyer, Doug changed careers and dedicated his life to helping people solve difficult, highly emotional conflicts.

In this fascinating conversation, Doug shares insights from his TEDx Talk, Listen Someone Into Existence, and explains how one simple skill can dramatically improve communication. Instead of focusing on the words people say, Doug teaches us to listen for the emotions behind the words and reflect those emotions back using simple statements such as, "You feel frustrated," "You feel misunderstood," or "You feel disrespected."

This technique, called affect labeling, helps people feel seen, heard, and understood. Research shows that accurately naming emotions can calm the brain's emotional centers in seconds, reducing tension and creating trust.

Doug has used these methods in some of America's most violent prisons through his Prison of Peace program, helping inmates learn to manage emotions and resolve conflict peacefully. The same skills can be used in marriages, families, parenting, workplaces, and leadership roles.

We also discuss why empathy is not weakness but a powerful leadership skill. Doug challenges traditional communication advice and explains why direct "You feel..." statements are often more effective than common "I think you're feeling..." responses.

Doug shares a simple three-step process:

    1. Ignore the words.
    2. Listen for the emotions.
    3. Reflect those emotions back using "You feel..." statements.

The result is a practical tool that can help de-escalate conflict, build trust, and create deeper connections in every area of life.

    In This Episode You'll Learn:

    • How to calm an angry person in 90 seconds or less
    • The science behind affect labeling
    • Why empathy is a leadership skill
    • How to help others feel seen, heard, and understood
    • Why "You feel..." statements build trust and connection
    • How these techniques improve relationships, parenting, leadership, and conflict resolution
    • The communication skills that transformed violent prison environments

  • Your Body Doesn't Lie: Learning to Trust the Wisdom of the Body with Dr. Kelly McCann

What if your symptoms weren’t your enemy—but your body’s way of asking for help?

In this fascinating and empowering episode of Linda’s Corner Podcast, we sit down with Dr. Kelly McCann to explore the deeper meaning behind chronic illness, physical symptoms, and the body’s incredible wisdom. Dr. Kelly is a pioneer in Functional, Integrative, and Environmental Medicine who specializes in uncovering the root causes of complex chronic conditions like Mast Cell Activation Syndrome (MCAS), mold toxicity, Lyme disease, and persistent infections.

You can learn more about Dr. Kelly and her work at Dr. Kelly McCann’s Website

After navigating her own serious health challenges—including mold exposure and Lyme disease—Dr. Kelly discovered how profoundly our thoughts, emotions, beliefs, and environment influence our physical health. Through her work at The Spring Center in California, she helps patients reconnect with their bodies, restore balance, and reclaim their vitality.

During this conversation, we explored the relationship many people have with their bodies. Too often, we view the body as broken, inconvenient, or even the enemy. But Dr. Kelly teaches that the body is deeply intelligent and always communicating with us. Symptoms are not random punishments—they are messages guiding us toward healing.

We discussed Mast Cell Activation Syndrome, a condition where the body’s defense systems become hypersensitive and overreactive. Dr. Kelly shared the powerful idea that our mindset and emotional state can influence our susceptibility to toxins and illness. Two people may experience the same toxic exposure, yet one becomes very ill while the other does not. Why? According to Dr. Kelly, our internal beliefs, stress patterns, emotional wounds, and nervous system regulation all play a significant role in how the body responds.

She explained how thoughts such as “I’m not safe,” “I’m not good enough,” or “My body is failing me” can create chronic stress patterns that are reflected physically in the body. Rather than blaming ourselves, Dr. Kelly encourages us to become curious and compassionate toward our symptoms and to recognize them as invitations to heal more deeply.

We also discussed her transformational masterclass, The Unforgetting Project, which teaches that we are already whole and enough—we have simply forgotten who we truly are beneath the conditioning of the world. From childhood onward, many people absorb messages that they are flawed, unsafe, or unworthy. Dr. Kelly believes healing involves “unforgetting” our true nature and reconnecting with our authentic selves.

One of the most practical insights she shared was the importance of allowing emotions to fully move through the body instead of suppressing them. She explained that emotions often complete their natural cycle in about 60–90 seconds if we allow ourselves to feel them fully without resistance. By noticing sensations in the body, identifying the associated emotion, and allowing it to flow through us, we can release trapped emotional energy and create space for healing.

This episode is a powerful reminder that healing is not just physical—it’s emotional, mental, spiritual, and deeply personal. If you’ve struggled with chronic symptoms, unexplained illness, or feeling disconnected from your body, this conversation offers hope, insight, and a compassionate new perspective.

    In This Episode We Discuss:

    • Listening to the wisdom of the body
    • The mind-body connection
    • Why symptoms may actually be messages from the body

    • The impact of thoughts like “I’m not safe” or “I’m not enough”
    • Nervous system regulation and susceptibility to illness
    • Learning to trust the wisdom of the body
    • Emotional processing and allowing feelings to complete their cycle

  • Reinventing Healthcare: Rebel Health Alliance with John Goldman

What if healthcare wasn’t just about treating disease—but helping people become the strongest, healthiest, most vibrant version of themselves?

In this fascinating and forward-thinking episode, I sit down with John Goldman, Human Performance Advocate, visionary in Precision Medicine, and Founder & CEO of Rebel Health Alliance.

John shares why he rebelled against the traditional healthcare system and created a revolutionary parallel healthcare model focused on prevention, optimization, and coordinated personalized care. Instead of waiting until people get sick, Rebel Health Alliance is designed to help individuals proactively improve their health, energy, resilience, and quality of life through data-driven, highly personalized support.

We explore how modern lifestyles are quietly making many people sick and overweight—and why small daily habits, consistency, structure, and proactive health choices can dramatically transform our future.

John explains how Rebel Health Alliance combines cutting-edge diagnostic technology with a carefully curated team of experts—including doctors, strength coaches, dieticians, and epigenetic counselors—all coordinated around the individual. Through virtual care, members gain convenient access to personalized support through text, voice, and video while keeping costs more affordable than traditional healthcare models.

One of the most inspiring moments in the conversation is when John shares his personal goal of becoming a “bad ass grandpa”—living a long, healthy, energetic life filled with vitality and purpose. His mission is not simply helping people avoid illness, but helping them truly thrive.

    We also discuss:

    • Why prevention matters more than waiting for disease
    • The limitations of insurance-based healthcare
    • The importance of discipline and daily habits
    • Rebuilding energy, focus, and resilience
    • Precision medicine and personalized care
    • The role of accountability and support in long-term transformation
• Cost-sharing options for unexpected medical emergencies
