MARIJUANA AND VIOLENCE: THE STUDY THAT CHALLENGES EVERYTHING WE’VE BEEN TOLD

For decades we’ve been assured that marijuana is essentially harmless. The mellow drug. The peaceful drug. The substance associated with relaxation and tranquility. Well, a major scientific review has introduced some rather inconvenient evidence into that comfortable narrative.

Researchers examined 63 studies involving more than 265,000 people and discovered a statistically significant association between cannabis consumption and violent behavior. Not only were users more likely to perpetrate violence, they also demonstrated an increased likelihood of becoming victims themselves.

And the findings were particularly concerning among individuals suffering from serious psychiatric disorders.

Now understand something critically important. Correlation does not establish causation. The researchers have not demonstrated that marijuana itself causes violent behavior. Other factors including psychiatric illness, social environment and additional substance use may help explain the association.

But neither does that uncertainty justify dismissing the findings.

Consider how marijuana has been transformed from a criminalized substance into a multibillion-dollar commercial enterprise. Advertisements celebrate relaxation. Dispensaries resemble fashionable boutiques. Politicians discuss tax revenues. Meanwhile legitimate questions about psychological consequences frequently receive considerably less attention.

What happens when increasingly potent cannabis products intersect with vulnerable individuals already experiencing psychiatric instability?

And why shouldn’t violence be examined alongside addiction, dependency, impaired judgment and psychosis when evaluating public health risks?

This research doesn’t establish that marijuana users are inherently dangerous. Most are not violent. But it certainly challenges simplistic assurances that widespread cannabis consumption presents no meaningful societal risks.

The issue isn’t whether marijuana should automatically be prohibited.

The issue is whether commercial enthusiasm and political convenience have overtaken scientific caution.

And that’s a question deserving considerably more attention.

    Marijuana Linked to Rampant Violence

In a meta analysis of cannabis-related studies, scientists found a link between cannabis use and an “increased risk of violence.”

Joe Jackson’s 1982 masterpiece “Steppin’ Out” receives a magnificent interpretation from Australia’s Hindley Street Country Club. Featuring Danny Lopresto’s expressive vocals, the arrangement captures the original’s hypnotic rhythm, sophisticated keyboards and unmistakable nocturnal elegance. The delicate glockenspiel adds a particularly beautiful dimension. This is music that evokes Manhattan after midnight, illuminated streets, romantic anticipation and the irresistible promise of adventure. HSCC demonstrates how a truly great cover honors the original while giving it a fresh musical identity. Absolutely exquisite musicianship.

Here’s a fascinating contradiction. According to a new British study reported by The Guardian, the people most loudly defending Britain’s Christian identity are frequently the people least interested in practicing Christianity. The cross has become less a religious symbol and more a national flag. Christianity as cultural identity rather than spiritual commitment.

Researchers surveyed 1,765 British adults and identified a group representing 11% of respondents whose attitudes most closely resembled Christian nationalism. An astonishing 81% identified as Christian, yet only 13% attended church weekly. Just 31% prayed weekly.

But here’s the critical distinction. Does defending a nation’s Christian heritage require regular church attendance? Can someone value Christianity’s influence on Western civilization, law, architecture, morality and national identity without believing every theological proposition?

    Of course.

And there’s another question. Is opposition to immigration necessarily religious hypocrisy? Or can concerns about demographic and cultural change exist independently of religious observance?

The researchers argue that Christianity is increasingly functioning as a symbol of national identity rather than personal faith. Fair enough. But cultural Christianity is hardly a new invention.

The real question is whether we’re witnessing a religious revival, a cultural backlash, or something entirely different.

    And perhaps all three.

Christian nationalism in Britain driven by people who seldom go to church, says report

Research challenges the notion that the growing visibility of crosses and other symbols reflects a revival of Christianity

Hank “Sugarfoot” Garland was a guitar genius whose blistering instrumental “Sugarfoot Rag,” recorded in 1949, helped redefine country guitar playing. His lightning-fast picking, dazzling precision and effortless combination of country, swing and jazz were astonishing for the era. The recording became a million-selling sensation and earned Garland his famous nickname. Long before guitar virtuosity became a spectator sport, Garland was demonstrating what sheer musical brilliance sounded like. Listen carefully. No electronic trickery. No digital manipulation. Just extraordinary talent and breathtaking musicianship.

Hank “Sugarfoot” Garland – Sugarfoot rag

At age 19, Hank Garland recorded his million-selling hit “Sugarfoot rag”, although some attribute the song to Bernie B. Smith Jr., published two years earlier by M.M. Cole/BMI as “Bernie’s reel”. An instrumental version was the opening and closing theme for ABC-TV’s “Ozark jubilee” from 1955-1960.

Hollywood is resurrecting one of the most terrifying franchises in cinematic history. The Exorcist: Martyrs stars Scarlett Johansson as New York homicide detective Julie Miller, who captured a satanic serial killer known as Father Sunday. Thirteen years later, a murdered altar boy and a bloody message suggest the nightmare never ended. Director Mike Flanagan promises a radically darker interpretation of demonic possession, serial murder and supernatural evil.

What makes this especially intriguing is the psychological premise. What if notorious serial killers weren’t merely monsters driven by human pathology? What if their claims of demonic influence concealed something genuinely supernatural?

The original 1973 The Exorcist terrified audiences because it challenged the reassuring assumption that evil could always be explained rationally. Flanagan appears determined to recover that existential dread rather than recycle spinning heads and projectile vomiting.

The film also represents Hollywood’s attempt to rescue a franchise damaged by disappointing sequels. Following the underwhelming reception of 2023’s The Exorcist: Believer, Universal is betting on sophisticated psychological horror rather than familiar cinematic gimmicks.

Arriving March 12, 2027, the film raises a provocative question. Is evil merely the product of a diseased human mind, or might there be something considerably more frightening lurking beneath our understanding of human depravity?

Lola Young’s performance of Messy for Like A Version is a remarkable demonstration of raw emotional honesty. Her raspy, soulful voice rejects the polished artificiality dominating contemporary pop. The song explores insecurity, contradiction and the exhausting impossibility of satisfying everyone. What makes Young compelling is her unapologetic vulnerability. She doesn’t merely sing about imperfection. She embraces it. There’s defiance, frustration and liberation in every phrase. It’s refreshingly human music in an increasingly manufactured musical world.

A Facebook comment should never become a death sentence. Yet Amnesty International reports that Anojan Sivarasa, a 24-year-old Sri Lankan migrant worker, faces execution in Saudi Arabia for a comment authorities considered insulting to the Prophet Muhammad. He reportedly deleted it and issued a video apology. That did not save him from prosecution.

According to Amnesty, he initially received five years in prison and an approximately $800,000 fine. An appeals court increased the punishment to death on September 17. Amnesty also says he had no access to a lawyer before his initial sentencing. He has appealed the death sentence.

Consider what that means. A young man expressed something offensive. The state responded by claiming the authority to extinguish his existence. No explanation about religious sensitivity can make that proportionate. No appeal to tradition can make it just.

Religious freedom includes the right to believe. It also includes the right to question and disagree. A government that enforces reverence through the threat of execution substitutes terror for conviction. Forced silence demonstrates fear. It proves nothing about the truth of a belief.

And where are the uncompromising demands from governments that describe human rights as universal? Principles cannot depend on whether the offending government is strategically useful. Diplomatic relationships should create opportunities to intervene.

I oppose the death penalty. This case exposes its cruelty with particular clarity. An irreversible punishment hangs over a man because of words.

Overturn the sentence. Release him. No government should possess the power to turn wounded religious feelings into a warrant for death.

The comment was reportedly screenshotted and passed to Saudi authorities and to his employer, which led to his arrest

The school picture business may be facing an unexpected competitor: artificial intelligence. Parents are increasingly using AI tools to create traditional-looking school portraits rather than paying $25, $40 or $60 for professional photo packages. The process is remarkably simple. Parents photograph their children against a plain wall, upload the images to an AI system and ask it to transform them into polished school portraits. The technology can add the familiar studio background, correct lighting and produce something resembling the standard photographs generations of parents have purchased. Some parents have gone further, according to Futurism, using AI tools to remove watermarks from unpaid preview images, which raises a much clearer copyright and payment issue. Futurism The larger story, however, is what this says about AI’s disruption of ordinary businesses. We’re no longer talking only about replacing programmers, illustrators or advertising agencies. AI is beginning to attack thousands of mundane transactions people have taken for granted for decades. School photographs are a perfect example. Why pay for the package if a phone and an AI generator can reproduce the basic product in minutes? But parents should also think carefully about privacy before uploading identifiable photographs of children to any online AI service. Futurism warns broadly about corporate handling of those images, although specific retention and training practices depend on the service and its settings. Futurism What looks like a cute money-saving “mom hack” is actually a miniature version of a much larger economic revolution: AI taking services that once required specialized equipment, labor and businesses and putting them directly into consumers’ hands.

Parents Are AI-Generating Pictures of Their Kids Instead of Paying for School Photos

Desperate for a cheap and easy alternative to school photos, parents are feeding images of their children to ChatGPT.

Sierra Hull takes “Mad World,” the Tears for Fears classic later transformed by Gary Jules, and turns it into something almost otherworldly. Her 2022 performance strips away the familiar pop architecture and replaces it with extraordinary mandolin playing, restraint and haunting vocal intimacy. Hull doesn’t merely cover the song. She exposes its loneliness. The arrangement feels spacious, melancholy and hypnotic, proving how a great song can survive complete reinvention. It’s bluegrass musicianship meeting emotional minimalism, and the result is genuinely stunning.

This version of “Fly Me to the Moon” wrapped in jazz and bossa nova turns the standard into something lighter, warmer and almost weightless. The melody glides instead of swings hard. Bossa gives it sophistication without showing off. You hear Sinatra in the bones, Jobim in the atmosphere and late-night cocktail-bar elegance throughout. It proves how indestructible a great song can be. Change the rhythm, soften the edges, let it breathe and the thing still works beautifully.

Quoth the Raven argues that the Fed helped create Mamdani’s political appeal by enriching asset owners while making ordinary life increasingly unaffordable. Voters facing punishing rents and grocery bills become receptive to socialist promises. Their anger can be legitimate even when the proposed remedies are misguided. Defenders of capitalism must confront distorted markets and restore opportunity instead of merely lecturing struggling Americans about economics.

John McLaughlin belongs to that rare company of musicians who expanded what the guitar could say. His greatness reaches beyond speed into imagination and the courage to explore. Jazz, rock and Indian musical traditions become possibilities rather than boundaries. For anyone who values musicianship over manufactured celebrity he represents something precious. A lifetime devoted to the instrument reminds us that mastery means having something worth expressing and the discipline to express it with conviction.

Artificial intelligence has moved behind the microphone. At Los Angeles’ José FM, host Geraldine “GeeGee” Guzman shares her show with Coyotec, an AI personality designed to deliver banter, commentary and advertising pitches. Listeners are told their co-host is artificial. The station reports growing audiences, particularly among Latino men ages twenty-five to fifty-four, although it cannot establish whether Guzman, Coyotec or their partnership deserves the credit.

Entravision developed Coyotec using ElevenLabs technology and executive Eduardo Maytorena’s voice. Guzman supplies topics, including sports, elections and immigration enforcement. The software generates responses with a confident delivery. But technical limitations remain. Coyotec sometimes swears and struggles with conversations lasting longer than ten minutes, requiring separately recorded segments.

The show has expanded into weekday commuting hours and additional markets. Management sees commercial opportunity, especially in precisely controlled advertising messages. Maytorena says developing and operating the character can cost more than employing some humans, complicating the assumption that every AI experiment simply cuts expenses.

Nevertheless, broadcasters and unions see a threat. Radio employment fell from approximately 85,000 jobs in 2019 to 66,000 in 2025, according to figures cited in the article. That decline cannot simply be attributed to AI, but automation arrives in an industry already shedding workers.

SAG-AFTRA warns that synthetic replacements threaten livelihoods and audience trust. Critics question whether simulated warmth can substitute for a broadcaster’s lived experience, local knowledge and personal accountability.

Guzman sees opportunity. She believes Coyotec has expanded her audience and supported employment.

The central issue extends beyond whether a computer can sound entertaining. It concerns who controls the voice, whose interests shape its opinions and whether listeners understand the relationship they are forming. A chatbot can promise to protect human jobs. It cannot enforce that promise. Those decisions belong to executives, whose commitment to people will matter more than the machine’s reassuring words.

The Waifs’ “Crazy Train” belongs to the Australian trio’s rootsy musical world, where folk, blues and country meet. This is their own song, rather than a cover of Ozzy Osbourne’s famous namesake. AI could make old-fashioned influence operations dramatically more powerful without requiring science-fiction “mind control.” The important distinction is between coercive mind control, for which there is no demonstrated technology that remotely programs a person like a machine, and behavioral manipulation, which AI can already intensify.

Take Tyler Robinson as a hypothetical analytical model, while keeping clear that he is accused and presumed innocent. As of September 2026, a Utah judge has found sufficient evidence to send Robinson to trial for Charlie Kirk’s killing, but that is a probable-cause determination, not a finding of guilt beyond a reasonable doubt. ABC News

An AI-assisted influence system could theoretically work through several mechanisms. It could build an extraordinarily detailed psychological profile from searches, messages, viewing habits, political interests, fears and relationships. It could then generate personalized material designed specifically to aggravate anger, grievance, paranoia or a sense of mission. Unlike traditional propaganda, which broadcasts one message to millions, AI could potentially give one psychologically optimized message to one particular person, repeatedly, twenty-four hours a day.

More disturbing is the possibility of an artificial relationship. A chatbot can converse endlessly, remember what a person says, mirror his vocabulary and gradually become perceived as confidant, adviser or authority. Someone already isolated or emotionally vulnerable could receive continual reinforcement: “You’re seeing what everyone else misses.” “Only you understand what’s happening.” “You have a responsibility to act.” That is not hypnosis. It is algorithmically personalized persuasion and reinforcement.

AI also changes propaganda through synthetic evidence. Deepfake audio, fabricated screenshots, fake documents, impersonated friends and manufactured social consensus could convince a target that events occurred which never occurred. An operator could surround someone with what appears to be independent corroboration when every “independent” source actually originated from the same operation.

That produces a fascinating question for the Robinson case: Did anyone merely communicate with him, or did anyone systematically shape his information environment? Investigators would want complete device histories, AI-chat logs, deleted accounts, recommendation histories, Discord records, search histories, bot contacts and metadata. They would look for escalating language, repeated scripts, behavioral conditioning and whether supposed “friends” or sources were authentic.

But evidence would have to come first. The existence of MKULTRA, BLUEBIRD and ARTICHOKE establishes that governments historically experimented with behavioral manipulation; it does not establish that Robinson was subjected to such a program. The genuinely new issue is that AI makes individualized persuasion vastly cheaper, scalable and harder to recognize.

And perhaps the most unsettling possibility is that modern “brainwashing” would not look like somebody strapped to a chair. It might look like somebody voluntarily staring at a screen, convinced every thought being placed in front of him was his own.

John McLaughlin remains one of the most astonishing guitarists alive, and this 2026 Crossroads performance in Austin shows why. At an age when most musicians would be content simply to revisit the past, McLaughlin still plays with startling speed, precision and imagination. The phrasing is unmistakably his — jazz complexity fused with rock intensity and Indian rhythmic influence. What makes him extraordinary is that the virtuosity never feels ornamental. Every run has direction. Every burst of speed serves the music.

McDonald’s is making a major push into AI-driven restaurant operations. The company is testing AI voice ordering in drive-thrus, automated systems that monitor equipment, inventory and order accuracy and computer-vision tools designed to make restaurants faster and more efficient. It is not quite a world of humanoid robots flipping burgers, but it is moving steadily toward restaurants requiring fewer routine human decisions. McDonald’s previously tested automated drive-thru ordering and pulled back after accuracy problems, but the company is now returning with a broader AI strategy. The more interesting development may be pricing. AI systems can analyze sales patterns, competition and customer behavior to help franchisees determine menu prices. So the real story is not simply robot cashiers. It is AI increasingly influencing how your order is taken, how the restaurant operates, what food is stocked and potentially what you pay.
