A Real Gem of a Novel!
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
The characters are so well drawn, real and sympathetic. You care what happens to them. And the story carries you along.
What other book might you compare Everyone Brave Is Forgiven to and why?
Cleve's way of writing and telling a story is so unique I can only think of his own Little Bee, although there are major differences in the characters and story.
Have you listened to any of Chris Cleave and Audible s other performances before? How does this one compare?
    No
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
There were many, but when Mary returned after leaving Alastair alone at dinner you understood how deeply conflicted she was about being in love with him.
    Any additional comments?
There are many, many bits of typically British witticisms used by Cleve's characters to defend against fear, pain and yes, even sincerity.

    BE CAREFUL
Be careful when clicking on this product!! I thought that I was getting the audio book but got some sort of commentary/discussion instead. I wasted my money and don't even have the book to listen to ;0( So disappointed!!!
    This is NOT the book
What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?
This is exactly why people get frustrated with this type of service. This is not the book but a discussion between the author and another author. I am sure the discussion is fine. I wanted the book read to me.
This is not the full book
Would you try another book from Emma Donoghue and/or Michael Cunningham?
This is not the audible book and should be renamed something that describes what it is exactly. I'll now go buy the Kindle book and read it. I thought I scored finding an audible book for less then the kindle book. I feel ripped off for what I paid.
What other book might you compare Thalia Book Club: Emma Donoghue's 'Room' to and why?
    the real book
How did the narrator detract from the book?
    .
You didnt love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?
    .
    Any additional comments?
    .
    Great Discussion
I must admit that I thought I was purchasing the actual book and was rather perturbed that it was a book discussion. Clearly, I was rushing and didn't read the details. My bad.
Coming from a position of disgust to thoroughly enjoying this book discussion is indicative of how great the presenters were. I am excited to purchase the actual book to read. And, I will have far more insight and understanding of what I'm listening to.
HIGHLY recommend this discussion either before or after you read the book, "Room."
Yes this is NOT the BOok!
This is a discussion of the book not the book itself. Well worth a couple of bucks more if you enjoyed the book. All of the idiots who didn't pay attention to what they were buying and posted one-star reviews should be disregarded.

Actress Rita Wolf will perform an excerpt.
    Editorial Reviews:
Author Geraldine Brooks borrows from history to create the novel People of the Book. Australian book conservator Hannah Heath studies a Jewish prayer book that has survived politically turbulent eras. Heath finds tiny figments of the past in the books binding, and through them encounters the places and peoples that make the books provenance. The vignettes vivid characters speak alongside Heath, and their presence allows the past to reemerge and coexist with the present. Public radio host and journalist John Hockenberry interviews Brooks as she thoughtfully discusses the role of history in her fiction. Classically trained British-Indian actress Rita Wolf narrates an excerpt in her own English accent, but her passionate performance makes it easy to envision the setting and the characters.

    Publisher's Summary:
Edwidge Danticat discusses her deeply personal new memoir, a National Book Award finalist for 2007, with her friend, director Jonathan Demme (The Silence of the Lambs).
Danticat, the acclaimed author of fiction, including Krik? Krak! and The Dew Breaker, wrote Brother, I'm Dying after a period of upheaval in her life, having lost her father and her uncle and given birth to her first child. She focuses her family story around her father and his brother Joseph, who took care of her in Haiti until she joined her parents in Brooklyn at age 12. It concludes with a well-researched account of Joseph Danticat's tragic death in the custody of U.S. immigration officials in 2004. The New York Times called Brother, I'm Dying "a memoir whose clear-eyed prose and unflinching adherence to the facts conceal an astringent undercurrent of melancholy, a mixture of homesickness and homelessness".
This special event was recorded live as part of the Thalia Book Club series at Peter Norton Symphony Space in New York City.
And don't miss any of the

In this funny and moving evening recorded live at Symphony Space in New York City, Haitian-American author Edwidge Danticat discusses her memoir Brother, I'm Dying with her friend the director Jonathan Demme. Along the way the pair discuss politics, the Haitian-American experience, the spare style of the book, and the idea of empathy as the basis for action.

    Publisher's Summary:
Never has this topic been more relevant than when a book like The Da Vinci Code is treated as fact rather than fiction. Dan Burstein is an award-winning journalist, author, and venture capitalist, and is the editor of Secrets of the Code. Bart D. Ehrman chairs the Department of Religious Studies at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and wrote The Truth Behind The Da Vinci Code: A Historian Reveals What We Really Know About Jesus, Mary Magdalene, and Constantine. This event took place on February 27, 2005.
    Editorial Reviews:
When Dan Browns The DaVinci Code hit bookshelves, a curious trend of conflating fact and fiction took hold of religious conversations. Spurred by this phenomenon, Dan Burstein, Bart D. Ehrman, and Linda Ruf convene at the 92nd Street Y for a night of lively debate on the issues found in Dan Browns book. With witty and engaging dialogue, the panelists cover topics ranging from the influence of pop culture in religious education to academic looks at the origin of the Christian church and how it has evolved over the ages.
    Members Reviews:
    myopic presentation of limited facts
Every speaker has pretty much the same bias:
    Pro Christian fundamentalism
    anti Dan Brown
They present their limited viewpoint as facts
They maintain that lack of proof means proof of lack - If there's no record of an event it never happened! IMVHO not worth hearing unless you have access to an alternate opinion.
