Awesome story

Where does The Lost World rank among all the audiobooks youve listened to so far?

Best adventure, I would say ! It is a story that takes a man from civilization to a land that was lost !

What other book might you compare The Lost World to and why?

The Atlantis Gene.

What about B. J. Harrisons performance did you like?

He was excellent ! Pitch perfect voice !

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Yes. It made me wonder if our civilization has truly changed since this was written. Technology has changed but have we as a people.

Excellent

B.J. Harrison did a great job reading this book. His interpretations of the characters were excellent, I found. He also has a pleasent voice to listen to.

The book was good, well paced and interresting. Not frightening by todays standards perhaps. One should bear in mind that it was written 100-ish years ago.

Major work by Arthur Machen

If you could sum up The Hill of Dreams in three words, what would they be?

Dreamy, philosophical, poetic journey of a young writer in 1890's London. Machen's wonderful use of language as sensual, evocative experience is rewarding. Now I want to read other Machen writings. The narrator was excellent, and I hope that we will see other Machen audiobooks in the future.

Title: Master Belhomme's Beast

Author: Guy de Maupassant

Narrator: Oliver Montgomery

Format: Abridged

Length: 16 mins

Language: English

Release date: 11-25-13

Publisher: Naxos AudioBooks

Genres: Classics, European Literature

Publisher's Summary:

This is a story from the Normandy Stories collection.

Maupassant is hailed as one of the greatest masters of the short story. This collection focuses upon the land he knew and loved so well - Normandy. Its people and its countryside are portrayed here in vivid color and with great warmth. Amusing, saucy, and sometimes even farcical they may be, but they are also capable of great pathos, often branching off to end tragically. It is this skilful and affecting blend of tragedy and comedy, of tears and laughter, which make Maupassant's Normandy Stories the enduring favorites they are today.

Editorial Reviews:

Travelers on a coach trip through countryside debate what has invaded the ear of one of them, and attempt various "cures" to end the mans terrible suffering. Oliver Montgomerys performance of the varied characters is understated but engaging in this excerpt from the Normandy Stories collection of Guy de Mauppassant short stories. The result is a wonderful, serio-comic example of the French masters subtle characterization and precise storytelling, with its humorous, finely detailed descriptions of peasants, clergy, pets, working animals, and the bourgeoisie.

Editorial Reviews:

Boniface is on his daily route when he stops to read a gruesome story of a murder. He is so upset by the details that when he arrives at the next house and hears loud moaning from inside, he is certain he's overheard a brutal crime. Boniface flees to the police, who accompany him back to the house and discover a far more innocuous act occurring. Guy de Maupassant's short story is masterfully constructed and delivered perfectly by Oliver Montgomery, whose precise performance immaculately builds an ominous tension that eventually dissolves into a fit of uncontained hilarity.
